This book was written to help you take control of your cancer journey. "Fortune favors the prepared mind." -Louis Pasteur. Cancer is one of the major issues of our times. These are issues that author Jonathan Chamberlain confronts. In this book you will find, 60-plus perceptions, thoughts and insights into cancer and the problems facing the person diagnosed with cancer. "If we make choices without understanding the reasons we are making those choices then we will very likely choose wrongly." Based on 20 years of thinking about cancer, this book will help you understand what the issues are and where to find answers. "I have probably thought about cancer every day since my wife was diagnosed. I am sure if we knew then what I know now she would still be alive." Byzantine Poetry from Pisides to Geometres Texts and Contexts. Volume Two

Byzantine Poetry from Pisides to Geometres Texts and Contexts. Volume Two
Free Download Marc D Lauxtermann, "Byzantine Poetry from Pisides to Geometres: Texts and Contexts. Volume Two "
English | ISBN: 3700181264 | 2019 | 431 pages | PDF | 3 MB
This second and last volume of Byzantine Poetry from Pisides to Geometres offers a comprehensive overview of the main poetic genres between c. 600 and 1000, combining textual analysis and contextual interpretation. The first three chapters discuss encomium, ekphrasis and ethopoiia - the three archigenres or discursive modes that, together with narration, inform the whole of Byzantine literature. The next two deal with specific rhetorical genres: monody and epithalamium. This then is followed by an account of satire, diatribe and religious poetry, all three of which tend to be rather personal: they are all forms of self-representation. The next two chapters take us to school: the first deals with didactic poetry; the second with metaphrasis, a school exercise. The last chapter treats oracles, riddles and dream keys. The book is concluded with an 'appendix metrica', which offers a detailed and thorough account of Byzantine metrics. Given that the first volume, which appeared in 2003, has become essential reading for all those interested in Byzantine literature, the second volume is likely to set the agenda for further research.

Building Knowledge In Higher Education Enhancing Teaching and Learning with Legitimation Code Theory

Building Knowledge In Higher Education Enhancing Teaching and Learning with Legitimation Code Theory
Free Download Building Knowledge In Higher Education: Enhancing Teaching and Learning with Legitimation Code Theory By Christine Winberg, Sioux McKenna and Kirstin Wilmot
2020 | 294 Pages | ISBN: 0367463326 | PDF | 29 MB
From pressures to become economically efficient to calls to act as an agent of progressive social change, higher education is facing a series of challenges. There is an urgent need for a rigorous and sophisticated research base to support the informed development of practices. Yet studies of educational practices in higher education remain theoretically underdeveloped and segmented by discipline and country. Building Knowledge in Higher Education illustrates how Legitimation Code Theory is bringing research together from across the disciplinary map and enabling practical change in a rigorously theorized way.The volume addresses both students and educators. Part I explores ways of supporting student achievement from STEM to the arts, from introductory courses to doctoral training, and from using new digital media to reflective writing. Part II focuses on academic staff development in higher education, reaching from curriculum design to pedagogic practices. All chapters focus on issues of contemporary relevance to higher education, showing how Legitimation Code Theory enables these issues to be understood and practices improved.Building Knowledge in Higher Education brings together internationally renowned scholars in higher education studies, academic development, academic literacies, and sociology, with some of the brightest new researchers. The volume significantly extends understandings of teaching and learning in changing higher education contexts and so contributes to educational research and practice. It will be essential reading not only to scholars and students in these fields but also to scholars and educators in higher education more generally.
