Parallel grammars for English, French, and German using Lexical Functional Grammar (LFG) as a framework are used as an example. Parallel grammars are grammars with similar coverage in different languages which explore how similarly one can treat various phenomena cross-linguistically. This issue of the parallelism of the analyses is a central concern in maximizing portability and extendability of the analyses to other grammars and languages. For the grammar writer, this handbook provides a useful guide to the range of constructions to be considered in a wide-coverage grammar and the theoretical and practical issues which their implementation gives rise to. The interaction between theory and implementation is discussed, including the implementation of new theoretical developments in LFG such as coordination via distribution, functional uncertainty, and a featural analysis of auxiliaries. ![]() A Friendly Guide to Software Development: What You Should Know Without Being a Developer English | 2023 | ISBN: 1484289684 | 312 pages | True PDF,EPUB | 11.3 MB Software is everywhere, but despite being so common and useful, it remains magical and mysterious to many. James Cooper boldly challenges the popular conflation of the leaders' platforms, and proposes that Reagan and Thatcher's summitry highlighted unique features of domestic policy in their respective countries. Summits, therefore, were a significant opportunity for the two world leaders to further their own domestic agendas. Cooper uses the relationship between Reagan and Thatcher to demonstrate that summitry politics transcended any distinction between foreign policy and domestic politics―a major objective of Reagan and Thatcher as they sought to consolidate power and implement their domestic economic programs in a parallel quest to reverse notions of their countries' "decline." ![]() A Cosmpolitan Hermit: Modernity and Tradition in the Philosophy of Josef Pieper By Bernard N. Schumacher 2009 | 312 Pages | ISBN: 0813217083 | PDF | 2 MB Composed of ten original essays written with the goal of exploring the thought of one of the most significant German philosophers of the 20th century, namely, Josef Pieper (1904-1997), this book is the only systematic treatment of his expansive philosophy to date. It brings his philosophy into dialogue with that of other important 20th century philosophers and schools of thought. The breadth of this discussion is itself a tribute to Josef Pieper. Not only do the essays seek to make better known the thought of this significant man, but they also deepen an understanding of some of the philosophical problems and challenges of our time. Some of the subjects discussed are, among others, the notion of totalitarianism and the question of what constitutes authentic culture; the intrinsic value of leisure and its relation to the total world of 'work'; the dimension of virtue in the on-going realization of the human person; the rational foundation of hope in confrontation with incomprehensible violence (such as that of Auschwitz, Burundi, and the events of September 11); the relation between faith and reason in a secular society; and the legitimacy of tradition. PMF was one of the best. In 1995, the U.S. Secret Service ran the first online internet sting in New Jersey. It was in place to catch hackers who were breaking into large communication carriers, and the people who were exploiting the systems to their advantage. It all started when a British hacker was caught breaking into company phone switches in New Jersey. Our story starts in 1981 on the Isle of Wight, England. PMF was one of the first to pick up and use computers to his advantage - knowing more than the teachers, he promptly took over the computers - breaking into systems at his school to move cute girls into classes near to his. Systems were never damaged, just carefully put back as they were so his tracks were not found. Later in our story, as so-called "phone phreaks" were learning how to make free phone calls to the USA from the UK, PMF got to meet and exchange ideas with some of the coolest of the bunch. Once in the US, he took the group under his wing - only to be double crossed by a close friend when federal agents later arrested them. A deal was struck between the agency and PMF. He would help them catch people who were making a financial gain from exploiting the cellular phone companies, and teach the corporations the many tricks he had learned over the years which allowed him to penetrate their systems. The story concludes with the raiding of 12 locations throughout the USA, along with the arrest of at least 6 major hackers. "He was a real hacker, a master at penetrating computer networks to gather information" Bergen County, New Jersey Record |
