Chinese Down-Under: Chinese People in Australia, Their History Here, and Their Influence, Then and Now By Patrick Grayson
2018 | 200 Pages | ISBN: 0994402864 | EPUB | 9 MB
For three hundred years the Chinese have influenced Australia - in a million ways... and it continues to today. It is a fascinating story of a race transference and heritage from China to Australia. The book covers the following;Ø Early migration to Australia of Chinese people, including their life and hardships on the goldfields.Ø Chinese-Australians who influenced the growth of Australia, such as; Mei Quong Tart, born in China's Canton province in 1850, who, when he died in Sydney, was mourned by thousands, both Chinese and Westerners. It also documents other interesting characters like, Sam Poo, a Chinese born bushranger, who in 1865 went to the gallows for murdering a police officer, and highway robbery. Follow the life of young Chinese man, Wang Cai, who came to Australia in the 1850s, leaving his family farm in the Shandong Province, up to his death in Australia, some seventy years later. There are many such tales.Ø Interviews with current day Chinese-Australians from all vocations and societal levels, discussing what they like and don't like about Australia. The work is populated with literally hundreds of interesting historical facts, and is a celebration of Chinese-Australian relationships, is easy reading, entertaining, and informative. It has filled an important role in Australian/Chinese history in terms of China's biggest, and certainly their most important export - her people.

China's Battle for Korea The 1951 Spring Offensive
Xiaobing Li, "China's Battle for Korea: The 1951 Spring Offensive "
English | ISBN: 0253011574 | 2014 | 344 pages | EPUB | 4 MB
Between November 1950 and the end of fighting in June 1953, China launched six major offensives against UN forces in Korea. The most important of these began on April 22, 1951, and was the largest Communist military operation of the war. The UN forces put up a strong defense, prevented the capture of the South Korean capital of Seoul, and finally pushed the Chinese back above the 38th parallel. After China's defeat in this epic five-week battle, Mao Zedong and the Chinese leadership became willing to conclude the war short of total victory.

Carving a Niche The Medical Profession in Mexico, 1800-1870
Luz María Hernández Sáenz, "Carving a Niche: The Medical Profession in Mexico, 1800-1870"
English | 2018 | pages: 391 | ISBN: 0773553029, 0773552979 | PDF | 5,7 mb
The beginning of the Mexican War of Independence in 1810 triggered radical political, social, and economic changes, including the reorganization of the medical profession. During this tumultuous period of transition, physicians and surgeons merged in an effort to monopolize the field and ensure their professional survival in a postcolonial, liberal republic. Carving a Niche traces the evolution of various medical occupations in Mexico from the end of the colonial period to the beginning of the regime of Porfirio Díaz, demonstrating how competition and collaboration, identity, ever-changing legislation, political instability, and foreign intervention resulted in a complex, gradual, and unique process of medical professionalization - one that neither conformed to theoretical models nor resembled hierarchies found in other parts of the world. Through extensive research, Luz María Hernández Sáenz analyzes the uphill struggle of practitioners to claim their place as public health experts and to provide and control medical education in the face of seemingly insurmountable odds. Highlighting the significance of race, class, gender, and nationality, Carving a Niche demonstrates that in the case of Mexico, liberal reforms praised by traditional works often hindered, rather than promoted, the creation of a modern medical profession and the delivery of quality health care services.
