Framing Fan Fiction Literary and Social Practices in Fan Fiction Communities
Kristina Busse, "Framing Fan Fiction: Literary and Social Practices in Fan Fiction Communities"
English | 2017 | pages: 263 | ISBN: 1609385144 | PDF | 1,5 mb
Gathering some of Kristina Busse's essential essays on fan fiction together with new work, Framing Fan Fiction argues that understanding media fandom requires combining literary theory with cultural studies because fan artifacts are both artistic works and cultural documents. Drawing examples from a multitude of fan communities and texts, Busse frames fan fiction in three key ways: as individual and collective erotic engagement; as a shared interpretive practice in which tropes constitute shared creative markers and illustrate the complexity of fan creations; and as a point of contention around which community conflicts over ethics play out. Moving between close readings of individual texts and fannish tropes on the one hand, and the highly intertextual embeddedness of these communal creations on the other, the book demonstrates that fan fiction is simultaneously a literary and a social practice.

For the Love of the Game Amateur Sport in Small-Town Ontario, 1838-1895
Nancy B. Bouchier, "For the Love of the Game: Amateur Sport in Small-Town Ontario, 1838-1895"
English | 2003 | pages: 224 | ISBN: 0773524568 | PDF | 11,9 mb
Nancy Bouchier traces the increasing importance of amateur sport to Woodstock and Ingersoll, two small nineteenth-century Ontario towns, revealing its intricate ties to urban boosterism and middle-class culture. Focusing on civic holiday celebrations, the establishment of organized clubs for cricket, baseball, and lacrosse, and the rise of spirited urban sports rivalries, Bouchier shows that small town interest in sports was much more than a pale imitation of the sporting life of Canada's major urban centres.

Flow The Rhythmic Voice in Rap Music
Flow: The Rhythmic Voice in Rap Music (Oxford Studies in Music Theory) by Mitchell Ohriner
English | September 3, 2019 | ISBN: 019067041X | True EPUB | 292 pages | 8.4 MB
From its dynamic start at dance parties in the South Bronx in the late 1970s, hip hop and rap music have exploded into a dominant style of popular music in the United States and a force for activism and expression all over the world. So, too, has scholarship on hip hop and rap music grown. Yet much of this scholarship, employing methods drawn from sociology and literature, leaves unaddressed the expressive musical choices made by hip hop artists. Fundamental among these choices is the rhythm of the rapping voice, termed "flow."

English | ISBN: 1844152162 | 2005 | 344 pages | EPUB | 4 MB
This is, without doubt, the finest book about the crucial role that artillery played in the two World Wars of the Twentieth century. The authors, both former artillery officers who saw action in Word War Two, describe the development of their neglected, inadequate and class-ridden arm through the battles of the First World War and the eventual war-winning role that artillery played, to the culmination of professional military deployment in the Second World War.

In 1952, John Cage shocked audiences with 4'33", his compositional ode to the ironic power of silence. From Cage's minimalism to Chris Burden's radical performance art two decades later (in one piece he had himself shot), the post-war American avant-garde shattered the divide between low and high art, between artist and audience. They changed the cultural landscape.

Explaining Resistance to Change Some Experimental Evidence and Implications
Explaining Resistance to Change: Some Experimental Evidence and Implications by Jan Philipp Krügel
English | December 7th, 2017 | ISBN: 3848741881 | 155 pages | True PDF | 2.73 MB
Many organisational changes fail because of resistance to change by employees. Changes require new ways of thinking, and the general uncertainty that surrounds them tends to make people uncomfortable. Jan Philipp Kr|gel examines the circumstances under which employees are more accepting of change with a laboratory experiment. His findings suggest that if employees are treated well by their employer in the first place, they are also more willing to help implement changes. The general uncertainty about the outcome of change, however, does not necessarily lead to strong resistance. Jan Philipp Kr|gel is currently working as a research assistant for the chair of behavioural economics at Helmut-Schmidt-University in Hamburg. His research focuses on experimental economics, game theory and behavioural economics.
