Roof Construction Manual, English Edition
Eberhard Schunck, "Roof Construction Manual, English Edition"
English | 1999 | ISBN: 3764369868 | PDF | pages: 76 | 7.8 mb
The "Roof Construction Manual" with over 1800 plans and 220 photographs is a vital reference work on the construction of pitched roofs. It offers extensive and fundamental information on all common types of roofing, and provides practical details for their construction. The volume is divided according to the type of roof elements and the jointing techniques. thirteen kinds of roofs and the relevant materials including thatch, wood, slate, tile, concrete, fibrous cement, bitumen, glass, metal, membranes, and synthetic materials are documented. Also described in detail are essential topics such as ventilation, the vapour and wind seals, insulation and water drainage, and the topics of renovation and energy conservation are examined. As with all the Construction Manuals, built examples illustrate the theoretical details. Some 38 examples which include 11 classic buildings and 27 buildings from the last 5 years show the construction of roofs paying particular attention to important features such as the ridge, hip, eaves, roof valley, verge, and penetration. A compact presentation of the load-bearing structures and the physics necessary for roof construction in addition to the current norms and standards make this volume as indispensable standard work for all architects and engineers.

Reviving the Strike How Working People Can Regain Power and Transform America
Joe Burns, "Reviving the Strike: How Working People Can Regain Power and Transform America"
English | ISBN: 1935439243 | 2011 | 224 pages | PDF | 2 MB
If the American labor movement is to rise again, it will not be as a result of electing different politicians, the passage of legislation, or improved methods of union organizing. Rather, workers will need to rediscover the power of the strike. Not the ineffectual strike of today, where employees meekly sit on picket lines waiting for scabs to take their jobs, but the type of strike capable of grinding industries to a halt-the kind employed up until the 1960s.

Retirement Migration to the Global South
Retirement Migration to the Global South: Global Inequalities and Entanglements
English | 2022 | ISBN: 9811669988 | 251 Pages | PDF | 3.3 MB
This book examines the increasing evidence of international retirement migration (IRM) to countries of the Global South. IRM to countries of the Global South points to the increasing global interconnectedness of aging in relatively affluent countries and raises critical questions about its interrelations with global inequalities. This book provides a critical analysis of these global interrelations and their intertwinements with global inequalities and addresses the complex and multi-layered dimensions and implications of this development. It highlights the (ambiguous) everyday lives of retirement migrants in the countries of destination, and the severe impacts on the destination countries that are marked by processes of recolonization, and the reproduction, enhancement and reconfiguration of social inequalities. The growing retirement industry that capitalizes on retirement migration exploiting global differences and structural disadvantages of countries in the Global South is another integral part of this book.

Resolving Strong Field Dynamics in Cation States of CO 2 via Optimised Molecular Alignment
Resolving Strong Field Dynamics in Cation States of CO_2 via Optimised Molecular Alignment By
2014 | 205 Pages | ISBN: 331905337X | PDF | 8 MB
This thesis presents an experimental study of the ultrafast molecular dynamics of CO_2^+ that are induced by a strong, near-infrared, femtosecond laser pulse. In particular, typical strong field phenomena such as tunneling ionisation, nonsequential double ionisation and photo-induced dissociation are investigated and controlled by employing an experimental technique called impulsive molecular alignment. Here, a first laser pulse fixes the molecule in space, such that the molecular dynamics can be studied as a function of the molecular geometry with a second laser pulse. The experiments are placed within the context of the study and control of ultrafast molecular dynamics, where sub-femtosecond (10^-15 seconds) resolution in ever larger molecular systems represents the current frontier of research. The thesis presents the required background in strong field and molecular physics, femtosecond laser architecture and experimental techniques in a clear and accessible language that does not require any previous knowledge in these fields.

Research Through, With and As Storying
Louise Gwenneth Phillips, "Research Through, With and As Storying"
English | ISBN: 1138089494 | 2018 | 136 pages | PDF | 2 MB
Research Through, With and As Storying explores how Indigenous and non-Indigenous scholars can engage with storying as a tool that disassembles conventions of research. The authors explore the concept of storying across different cultures, times and places, and discuss principles of storying and storying research, considering Indigenous, feminist and critical theory standpoints. Through the book, Phillips and Bunda provide an invitation to locate storying as a valuable ontological, epistemological and methodological contribution to the academy across disciplines, arguing that storying research gives voice to the marginalised in the academy.

Religious Language
Religious Language By Michael Scott
2013 | 238 Pages | ISBN: 1137033193 | PDF | 2 MB
Michael Scott addresses a range of central questions about the meaning of religious language and discourse. - Should we treat religious discourse at face value or are there fundamental differences between religious discourse and other areas of descriptive discourse? - Is 'God' a name and how does it refer? - Are religious utterances metaphorical? - Do religious utterances express feelings, intentions or stances as well as or instead of beliefs? The book draws on current research in the philosophy of language as well as work in theology and Continental Philosophy to develop a novel theory of religious language. New work and original insights are also presented on the historical development of research in the field. This is first original, wide-ranging account of the meaning of religious language in over two decades.
