V For Vendetta As Cultural Pastiche A Critical Study of the Graphic Novel and Film
James R. Keller, "V For Vendetta As Cultural Pastiche: A Critical Study of the Graphic Novel and Film"
English | 2008 | ISBN: 0786434678 | 247 pages | EPUB | 1 MB
The 2005 James McTeigue and Wachowski Brothers film V for Vendetta represents a postmodern pastiche, a collection of fragments pasted together from the original Moore and Lloyd graphic novel of the same name, along with numerous allusions to literature, history, cinema, music, art, politics, and medicine. Paralleling the graphic novel, the film simultaneously reflects a range of authorial contributions and influences. This work examines in detail the intersecting texts of V for Vendetta. Subjects include the alternative dimensions of the cinematic narrative, represented in the film's conspicuous placement of the painting The Lady of Shalott in V's home; the film's overt allusions to the AIDS panic of the 1980s; and the ways in which antecedent narratives such as Terry Gilliam's Brazil, Huxley's Brave New World, and Bradbury's Fahrenheit 451 represent shadow texts frequently crossing through the overall V for Vendetta narrative.

Utility Planet 2016 Hear the World on Short Wave Utility Radio (Utility Planet Compilations)
Hugh Stegman, "Utility Planet 2016: Hear the World on Short Wave Utility Radio (Utility Planet Compilations)"
English | 17 Jan. 2017 | ASIN: B01MUBTYK7 | 139 Pages | AZW3 | 3 MB
This book contains all 2016 Utility Planet columns first published in The Spectrum Monitor, a monthly e-zine which has rapidly become the eminent publication of its sort in the United States. We have the notorious short wave "numbers" stations, the U-2 spy plane, quite a few military units, and radiofaxes used to help keep ships out of trouble. These are explained with technical details that help cut through the jargon and ultra-technical specs that make modern radio systems so opaque to most people.

Unbounded Dependency Constructions Theoretical and Experimental Perspectives
Unbounded Dependency Constructions: Theoretical and Experimental Perspectives by Rui P. Chaves, Michael T. Putnam
English | February 15, 2021 | ISBN: 0198784996, 0198785003 | 352 pages | PDF | 5 MB
This book is about one of the most intriguing features of human communication systems: the fact that words that go together in meaning can occur arbitrarily far away from each other. In the sentence This is technology that most people think about, but rarely consider the implications of, the word 'technology' is interpreted as if it were simultaneously next to the words 'about' and 'of'. This kind of long-distance dependency has been the subject of intense linguistic and psycholinguistic research for the last half century, and offers a unique insight into the nature of grammatical structures and their interaction with cognition. The constructions in which these unbounded dependencies arise are remarkably difficult to model and come with a rather puzzling array of constraints that have often defied characterization or proper explanation. This work provides a detailed survey of these constructions and the factors responsible for their creation and comprehension, describes new experimental evidence that sheds light on the nature of the phenomenon, and suggests new avenues for future research. The volume will be of interest to graduate students and researchers in the fields of morphosyntax, psycholinguistics, and cognitive science.
