In them we find references to entities like monsters and demons, bizarre descriptions, and odd classification systems of plants and animals. Modern scholars usually dismiss these elements as mere eccentricities. Instead, this book takes these elements seriously. They are focused on and tackled with a theoretical tool-styles of thinking- developed in the fields of philosophy and history of science. By doing so the book aims to unveil epistemological and ontological issues in which colonial and post-colonial studies are entangled, and which have a relevance that goes beyond debates concerning, for instance, the formation of Brazil's cultural identity. This book contributes to Luso-Brazilian studies, science studies, and the history of the early-modern period. The notion of "styles of thinking" as presented and used in it benefitted from the many discussions about philosophy and history of science that emerged since the 1980s, with authors such as Ian Hacking, Lorraine Daston, and Peter Galison, who have already done much reassessing critically what is best in the work of previous authors such as Paul Feyerabend, Thomas Kuhn, and Michel Foucault. This book considers that the well-known puzzling passages of the corpus of the Portuguese have a fictional and figurative character that acquires full intelligibility in view of literary and mystical traditions typical of the late Renaissance, and influential over the Portuguese. Nature is understood as emerging from an excessive source which permanently overflows it and which is impossible to refer to and depict literally. The book points to the fact that such an idea would connect the Portuguese with other peculiar pre-Modern and post-Modern authors with similar ontological insights: from the neo-Platonists to Boccaccio, Nietzsche, and more recently, Derrida. ![]() Free Download Martyn Dade-Robertson, "Living Construction " English | ISBN: 1138363014 | 2020 | 106 pages | AZW3 | 6 MB Modern biotechnologies give us unprecedented control of the fundamental building blocks of life. While there is a thriving speculative discourse on the future of design in the age of biotechnology, there are few realized design applications. ![]() Free Download Literary Criticism of Matthew Arnold : Letters to Clough, the 1853 Preface and Some Essays By Flemming Olsen 2022 | 98 Pages | ISBN: 1845197100 | EPUB | 1 MB Many of the ideas that appear in poet Matthew Arnold's Preface to the Poems of 1853 to his collection of poems and in his later essays are suggested in the letters that Arnold wrote to his friend Arthur Hugh Clough. Literature was, in Arnold's perception, meant to communicate a message rather than impress by its structure or by formal sophistication. Modern theories of coalescence between content and form were outside the contemporary paradigm. T. S. Eliot's ambivalent attitude to Arnold-at once reluctantly admiring and decidedly patronizing-is puzzling. Eliot never seemed able to liberate himself from the influence of Arnold. What in Arnold's critical oeuvre attracted and at the same time repelled Eliot? That question has led an in-depth analysis of Arnold as a literary critic. This book begins with an examination of Arnold's letters to friend Arthur Hugh Clough and where it all started and proceeds with a close reading of the Preface to the Poems . A look at some of the later literary essays rounds off the picture of Arnold as a literary critic. ![]() Free Download Linux Essentials: Hands-On Course with Labs English | 2025 | h264, yuv420p, 1920x1080 | 48000 Hz, 2channels | Duration: 5h 4m | 395 MB This course offers an engaging way to learn Linux by combining real-world storytelling with hands-on labs. How do the personal struggles of music artists, specifically those with immigrant backgrounds, compare to the private struggles of other individuals? At a time when many countries in the European Union are experiencing an increase in far-right political party activities, how do individuals from the margins negotiate new ways of thinking about identity, offering hope for a greater understanding of shared struggles across societies? This book offers interpretations of identity and belonging by examining the work of two music artists, Faudel Belloua from France and Adam Tensta from Sweden. By analyzing texts produced by these individuals, the author argues that ongoing engagement with the materials produced by Belloua and Tensta, a process which she refers to as living biography, presents a unique window into the process of how Belloua and Tensta connect personal struggles to public issues, providing a compelling departure point for further discussions on how interpretations of national identity are changing in France, Sweden and beyond. ![]() Free Download Marco Walder, "Let's Stay Together: The Untold Chronicles" English | 2017 | ISBN: 0985482621 | EPUB | pages: 106 | 0.2 mb Marco Walder releases a new edition of his sequel Lets Stay Together: The Untold Chronicles.
