Despite its name, argument dialectics is a logical approach to argumentation theory. AD stands out among theories of argument because of three unusual features: it is reasons-based, holistic and particularistic. This implies that AD conceives of logic as a theory of the dialectical construction of reasons, not as a theory of inferences. Consequently, contrary to other logical approaches, AD focuses on the study of inter-argumentative relations, especially those of opposition and weighing. The book makes an extensive use of the theory of reasons, a branch of metaethics that has been a very valuable quarry of intuitions and concepts for the elaboration of a reason-based theory of argument. The oppositions generalism-particularism and atomism-holism, proposed by Jonathan Dancy, which play a central role in the book and in the development of AD, have been adapted from the theory of reasons, and the same can be said of the distinction between different statuses of reasons that AD associates with different kinds of counterarguments. Conceiving of the theory of argument in terms of reasons has the effect of situating the paradigm of argumentation in practical argumentation/reasoning "about what to do" rather than in theoretical argumentation "about what to believe", as inference-based theories do. Hence, this book is of interest to argumentation theorists, communication theorists, epistemologists, linguists, moral philosophers, and philosophers of law. ![]() Free Download Arduino VIII: Portenta Machine Control English | 2025 | ISBN: 303185943X | 423 Pages | PDF EPUB (True) | 150 MB This book, "Arduino VIII: Portenta Machine Control," is an accessible primer on industrial control and programmable logic controller concepts for those without a deep instrumentation background. Together they cover the span of the 20th century and afford historical insights into the complex gender politics of achieving institutional acceptance and validation in the Portuguese national canon at different points in the 20th century. Although a patrilinear evolutionary model visibly structures national literary history in Portugal to the present day, women writers and critics have not generally sought to replace this with a matrilinear feminist counter-history. The unifying metaphor that the authors adopt here for the purpose of discussing Portuguese women's ambivalent response to female genealogy is the classical figure of Antigone, who paradoxically sacrifices her own genealogical continuity in the name of defending family and kinship, while resisting the patriarchal pragmatics of state-building. Should women writers, faced with the absence of a female tradition, posit a woman-centred place outside the jurisdiction of male genealogy, however strategically essentialist that place may be, or should they primarily eschew fixed sexual identity to act as unnameable saboteurs, undoing the law of patriarchal tradition from within? ![]() Free Download Annihilating Noise by Paul Hegarty English | December 10, 2020 | ISBN: 150133543X, 1501335448 | True EPUB | 304 pages | 0.6 MB Noise has become a model of cultural and theoretical thinking over the last two decades. It discusses why more people are poorer now than they were in the colonial era. The author argues that this is so because most of the leadership change efforts on the continent focus on replacing individuals rather than changing or overhauling the negative systems and the values inherent in the systems that the individual leaders inherit, create or perpetuate. The problems persist because they are systemic rather than personal in nature. Deep and lasting change that could result in lifting millions of people out of poverty will only occur when the systems, rather than only the individuals, are changed or replaced. The author challenges ordinary citizens, especially the youth, to rise up against 'animal farm systems' in order to create the tomorrow to which they aspire and deserve. ![]() Free Download Angelica: For Love and Country in a Time of Revolution by Molly Beer English | July 1st, 2025 | ISBN: 1324050217 | 336 pages | True EPUB | 2.41 MB A women-centric view of revolution through the life of Angelica Schuyler Church, Alexander Hamilton's influential sister-in-law. ![]() Free Download And After All: A Fan History of Oasis by Melissa Locker English | July 1, 2025 | ISBN: 1668099373, 9781668099391 | True EPUB | 320 pages | 16.4 MB This oral history documents the story of Oasis as told by the fans who were there.
