Women in Early British and Irish Astronomy Stars and Satellites
Women in Early British and Irish Astronomy: Stars and Satellites by Mary Brück
English | EPUB | 2009 | 281 Pages | ISBN : 9048124727 | 3.7 MB
Careers in astronomy for women (as in other sciences) were a rarity in Britain and Ireland until well into the twentieth century. The book investigates the place of women in astronomy before that era, recounted in the form of biographies of about 25 women born between 1650 and 1900 who in varying capacities contributed to its progress during the eighteenth, nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.

Tribology of Polymer and Polymer Composites for Industry 4.0
Tribology of Polymer and Polymer Composites for Industry 4.0
English | 2021 | ISBN: 9811639027 | 211 Pages | PDF EPUB | 39 MB
This book first introduces polymers and polymer composites which are widely used in different industrial and engineering applications where the proper selection of fiber, filler, and polymer can be tailored for particular application. The primary objective of this book is to broaden the knowledge of tribology of polymer composites in a new dimension for Industry 4.0. For instance, the book covers polymer composites used as self-lubricating material used in the automotive industry and other manufacturing equipment to reduce the effect of energy loss due to friction and wear. This book is of interest to researchers and industrial practitioners who work in the field of tribology of polymer composites, manufacturing equipment and production engineering.

Time Expression and Named Entity Recognition
Time Expression and Named Entity Recognition
English | 2021 | ISBN: 3030789608 | 113 Pages | PDF EPUB | 5 MB
This book presents a synthetic analysis about the characteristics of time expressions and named entities, and some proposed methods for leveraging these characteristics to recognize time expressions and named entities from unstructured text. For modeling these two kinds of entities, the authors propose a rule-based method that introduces an abstracted layer between the specific words and the rules, and two learning-based methods that define a new type of tagging scheme based on the constituents of the entities, different from conventional position-based tagging schemes that cause the problem of inconsistent tag assignment. The authors also find that the length-frequency of entities follows a family of power-law distributions. This finding opens a door, complementary to the rank-frequency of words, to understand our communicative system in terms of language use.

Theoretical Study of Electron Correlation Driven Superconductivity in Systems with Coexisting Wide and Narrow Bands
Theoretical Study of Electron Correlation Driven Superconductivity in Systems with Coexisting Wide and Narrow Bands by Daisuke Ogura
English | PDF | 2019 | 122 Pages | ISBN : 9811506663 | 7 MB
This book deals with the study of superconductivity in systems with coexisting wide and narrow bands. It has been previously suggested that superconductivity can be enhanced in systems with coexisting wide and narrow bands when the Fermi level is near the narrow band edge. In this book, the authors study two problems concerning this mechanism in order to: (a) provide a systematic understanding of the role of strong electron correlation effects, and (b) propose a realistic candidate material which meets the ideal criteria for high-Tc superconductivity.

The Science of Qualitative Research, 2nd Edition
The Science of Qualitative Research, 2nd Edition
English | 2018 | ISBN: 1108417124 | 550 Pages | PDF | 3 MB
This updated and expanded edition is a unique examination of qualitative research in the social sciences, raising and answering the question of why we do this kind of investigation. Rather than providing instructions on how to conduct qualitative research, The Science of Qualitative Research explores the multiple roots of qualitative research - including phenomenology, hermeneutics, and critical theory - in order to diagnose the current state of the field and recommend an alternative. The author argues that much qualitative research today uses the mind-world dualism that is typical of traditional experimental investigation, and recommends that instead we focus on constitution: the relationship of mutual formation between a form of life and its members. Michel Foucault's program for 'a history ontology of ourselves' provides the basis for this fresh approach. The new edition features updated chapters, and a brand new chapter which offers a discussion on how to put into practice Foucault's concept.

The Rotation of Sun and Stars
The Rotation of Sun and Stars by Jean-Pierre Rozelot
English | PDF | 2009 | 266 Pages | ISBN : 3540878300 | 9.2 MB
The Sun and stars rotate in di?erent ways and at di?erent velocity rates. The knowledge of how they rotate is important in understanding the formation and evolution of stars and their structure. The closest star to our Earth, the Sun, is a good laboratory to study in detail the rotation of a G star and allows to test new ideas and develop new techniques to study stellar rotation. More or less massive, more or lessevolved objects, however, can have averydi?erent rotation rate, structure and history.
