Haley argues that the weakness of legal controls throughout Japanese history has assured the development and strength of informal community controls based on custom and consensus to maintain order-an order characterized by remarkable stability, with an equally significant degree of autonomy for individuals, communities, and businesses. ![]() Asian Literary Voices: From Marginal to Mainstream by Philip F. Davis 2006 | 189 Pages | ISBN: 0745326471 | PDF | 13 MB This book explores the complex relationship between art and politics. Walter Davis uses his extensive knowledge of psychoanalysis to develop a philosophical critique of the impact that the current political climate is having on all artistic endeavour. He uses examples from a wide variety of fields including the theatre and popular culture, to show how true artistic freedom of expression is under threat from the ideological constraints imposed by contemporary capitalism. Starting with an analysis of the censorship of the play 'My Name is Rachel Corrie', which was withdrawn from production by a major New York theatre due to political pressure, Davis shows how all art that challenges the mainstream is suppressed or distorted to suit the politics of our time -- one that will not recognize the truth of human experience and the disorder at the heart of all civilization. ![]() Anglo-Saxons: A Captivating Guide to the People Who Inhabited Great Britain from the Early Middle Ages to the Norman Conquest of England by Captivating History English | December 22, 2019 | ISBN: 1647480973 | 130 pages | Rar (PDF, AZW3) | 3.20 Mb If you want to discover the captivating history of the Anglo-Saxons, then keep reading... ![]() Anarchist Seeds Beneath the Snow: Left-Libertarian Thought and British Writers from William Morris to Colin Ward By David Goodway 2007 | 414 Pages | ISBN: 1846310253 | PDF | 11 MB From William Morris to George Orwell, left-libertarian thought has long been an important but neglected part of Britishhistory. In Anarchist Seeds Beneath the Snow, David Goodway seeks to recover and revitalize that indigenous anarchist tradition. The book succeeds as both a cultural history of left-libertarianism in Britain and a demonstration of the applicability of that history to current politics. Goodway argues that a recovered anarchist tradition could-and should-be a touchstone for contemporary political radicals. Moving seamlessly from Aldous Huxley and John Cowper Powys to the war in Iraq, this challenging volume will energize leftist movements throughout Britain and the rest of the world. ![]() Danny Gregory, "An Illustrated Journey: Inspiration From the Private Art Journals of Traveling Artists, Illustrators and Designers" English | ISBN: 144032025X | 2013 | 272 pages | AZW3 | 30 MB Travel + Sketching = Inspiration ![]() Aikido Exercises for Teaching and Training By C.M. Shifflett 2009 | 247 Pages | ISBN: 1583942173 | PDF | 10 MB C.M. Shifflett's "Aikido for Teaching and Training," is a thoughfully crafted handbook that should benefit any Aikido practicioner. I myself am primarily a Shaolin Kung Fu stylist, however, I was honored to have studied with Shihan Paul Silvaine of Valley Aikido in Northhampton Massachusetts between 1985 and 1989. The Aikido that he taught me was inspiring to say the least, and its circular nature blends perfectly with both Kung Fu and Tai Chi methodology. This book has helped me to rekindle his teachings, and allowed me to resume practice in Aikido. There is an amazing abundance of information within this book, and several readings will most likely be necessary to glean all of the treasure locked within its pages. The illustrations are adequate, but in some cases, I thought that a few more photos would have been appropriate. I agree with some of the other posters that the testimonials were often both humorous and fitting, but at times I found them excessive, and anxiously read on for more of the Author's expert instruction. Keep up the good work! Two thumbs up!Sincerely,Erik D.J. Bowens English | January 21st, 2021 | ISBN: 0802876765 | 384 pages | True EPUB | 1.16 MB The letters of Paul-especially the verse in Ephesians directing slaves to obey their masters-played an enormous role in promoting slavery and justifying it as a Christian practice. Yet despite this reality African Americans throughout history still utilized Paul extensively in their own work to protest and resist oppression, responding to his theology and teachings in numerous-often starkly divergent and liberative-ways. |
