Science and the Detective Selected Reading in Forensic Science
Science and the Detective: Selected Reading in Forensic Science By Brian H. Kaye
1995 | 405 Pages | ISBN: 3527292519 | PDF | 28 MB
As an arts student looking for an easy way out of the dreaded mandatory science elective, I found Dr. Kaye's course, and subsequently, his textbook, to be an excellent choice. He writes with a strong sense of his audience, and manages to make every topic - from footprints to archaeological(...)- as interesting as possible. That said, he does get a little sidetracked when getting into the etymology of scientific terms, (a full page is devoted to how "chroma" and "soma" led to chromasome, for instance) but that's ultimately part of his charm, too. It's a shame that he has passed away -- his work is as jovial and exciting as science gets.

Resource Recovery to Approach Zero Municipal Waste
Mohammad J. Taherzadeh, Tobias Richards, "Resource Recovery to Approach Zero Municipal Waste"
English | 2017 | ISBN: 1138892750, 1482240351 | 352 pages | PDF | 11.65 MB
Current development results in a linear flow from raw material to waste, which cannot be sustainable in the long term. Plus, a global population of 7 billion people means that there are 7 billion waste producers in the world. At present, dumping and landfilling are the primary practices for getting rid of municipal solid waste (MSW). However, this waste contains resources that we've yet to utilize. To create sustainable societies, we need to approach zero waste by recovering these resources.

Reconstruction of Urban Forests Post World War II and the Bosnian War
Reconstruction of Urban Forests: Post World War II and the Bosnian War by Joe R. McBride
English | PDF | 2021 | 111 Pages | ISBN : 3030649377 | 4.9 MB
This book will address the destruction of urban forest in nine cities by bombing during World War II and the Bosnian War and their reconstruction in the post-war years. After reviewing the general objectives and results of aerial bombing, the book explores the effects of bombing and the reconstruction of urban forest in London, Coventry, Hamburg, Dresden, St. Petersburg, Stalingrad, Tokyo, Hiroshima, and Sarajevo. Sarajevo stands out among these cities because the destruction of its urban forest was the result of citizens cutting down trees for firewood during the siege of the city.

Principles of Paleoclimatology
Principles of Paleoclimatology By Thomas M. Cronin
1999 | 575 Pages | ISBN: 0231109547 | PDF | 4 MB
Greenhouse gases, global warming, thinning ozone layers -understanding the Earth´s climatic changes is one of today´s most pressing international concerns. How fast has the climate changed? Where and why is it changing? What is the impact of climate change on our ecosystems, coastal regions, glaciers, forests, and lakes, and even on the evolution of our own species? This introduction to the rapidly emerging field of paleoclimatology explains the patterns and processes in the history of the Earth´s climate to answer such essential questions. Using the geologic records of ocean and lake sediment, ice cores, corals, and other natural archives, Principles of Paleoclimatology describes the history of the Earth´s climate -the ice age cycles, sea level changes, volcanic activity, changes in atmosphere and solar radiation -and the resulting, sometimes catastrophic, biotic responses. These paleoclimate records provide a baseline against which we can compare modern climate trends. Designed to give a fundamental background -including both history and methodology -to the discipline of paleoclimatology, this book is the first to advance our understanding of how climate change develops, how those changes are detected, and how the climate of the past can shape the climate of the future.
