Toward a Psychology of Uncertainty Trauma-Centered Psychoanalysis
Toward a Psychology of Uncertainty: Trauma-Centered Psychoanalysis By Doris Brothers
2007 | 240 Pages | ISBN: 0881634786 | PDF | 3 MB
Since trauma is a thoroughly relational phenomenon, it is highly unpredictable, and cannot be made to fit within the scientific framework Freud so admired. In Toward a Psychology of Uncertainty: Trauma-Centered Psychoanalysis, Doris Brothers urges a return to a trauma-centered psychoanalysis. Making use of relational systems theory, she shows that experiences of uncertainty are continually transformed by the regulatory processes of everyday life such as feeling, knowing, forming categories, making decisions, using language, creating narratives, sensing time, remembering, forgetting, and fantasizing. Insofar as trauma destroys the certainties that organize psychological life, it plunges our relational systems into chaos and sets the stage for the emergence of rigid, life-constricting relational patterns. These trauma-generated patterns, which often involve denial of sameness and difference, the creation of complexity-reducing dualities, and the transformation of certainty into certitude, figure prominently in virtually all of the complaints for which patients seek analytic treatment. Analysts, she claims, are no more strangers to trauma than are their patients. Using in-depth clinical illustrations, Dr. Brothers demonstrates how a mutual desire to heal and to be healed from trauma draws patients and analysts into their analytic relationships. She recommends the reconceptualization of what has heretofore been considered transference and countertransference in terms of the transformation of experienced uncertainty. In her view the increased ability of both analytic partners to live with uncertainty is the mark of a successful treatment. Dr. Brothers’ perspective sheds fresh light on a variety of topics of great general interest to analysts as well as many of their patients, such as gender, the acceptance of death, faith, cult-like training programs, and burnout. Her discussions of these topics are enlivened by references to contemporary cinema and theatre.

Tourists of History Memory, Kitsch, and Consumerism from Oklahoma City to Ground Zero
Marita Sturken, "Tourists of History: Memory, Kitsch, and Consumerism from Oklahoma City to Ground Zero"
English | ISBN: 0822341034 | 2007 | 360 pages | PDF | 4 MB
In Tourists of History, the cultural critic Marita Sturken argues that over the past two decades, Americans have responded to national trauma through consumerism, kitsch sentiment, and tourist practices in ways that reveal a tenacious investment in the idea of America's innocence. Sturken investigates the consumerism that followed from the September 11th attacks; the contentious, ongoing debates about memorials and celebrity-architect designed buildings at Ground Zero; and two outcomes of the bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City: the Oklahoma City National Memorial and the execution of Timothy McVeigh.

Time, History and Architecture Essays on Critical Historiography
Gevork Hartoonian, "Time, History and Architecture: Essays on Critical Historiography "
English | ISBN: 1138283517 | 2017 | 208 pages | PDF | 3 MB
Time, History and Architecture presents a series of essays on critical historiography, each addressing a different topic, to elucidate the importance of two influential figures Walter Benjamin and Gottfried Semper for architectural history. In a work exploring themes such as time, autonomy and periodization, author Gevork Hartoonian unpacks the formation of architectural history; the problem of autonomy in criticism and the historiographic narrative. Considering the scope of criticism informing the contemporaneity of architecture, the book explores the concept of nonsimultaneity, and introduces retrospective criticism the agent of critical historiography. An engaging thematic dialogue for academics and upper-level graduate students interested in architectural history and theory, this book aims to deconstruct the certainties of historicism and to raise new questions and interpretations from established critical canons.

The War in Iraq and Why the Media Failed Us
The War in Iraq and Why the Media Failed Us By David Dadge
2006 | 214 Pages | ISBN: 0275987663 | PDF | 6 MB
Polls show that a sizeable portion of the American population believes that troops found WMD in Iraq and that Saddam Hussein was somehow responsible for the attacks of September 11. Even after the 9/11 Commission Report and numerous other reports have concluded that our intelligence was flawed, people in the freest nation on earth continue to be misinformed about something that could not be more vital to understandвЂ"the reasons for sending troops into harm's way. This insightful analysis argues that the media should have done a better job of performing its traditional role of skeptic and watchdog, and it examines what went wrong. There are, of course, many people whose support for going to war in Iraq was not contingent on the existence of WMD or a connection to al-Qaeda. But many others based their support for the war on misinformation. Dadge explores why the media did not aggressively investigate the claims made by the administration and intelligence agencies; in short, why they did not do their job: to fully inform the citizenry to the best of their ability. He examines pressures from the Bush administration, pressures from corporate consolidation of media ownership, patriotism and self-censorship, and other factors. He concludes with recommendations for ways in which the media can improve their reporting on government.

The Theory of Consciousness It's About Time
The Theory of Consciousness It's About Time by Bushy Van Eck
English | October 11, 2017 | ISBN: 1549510290 | 571 pages | Rar (PDF, AZW3) | 3.86 Mb
The "Theory of Consciousness - It's About Time" was masterly written with the intent of presenting a general audience a history lesson in science as the groundwork for presenting the Ultimate Grand Theory of Everything. Ultimate, because this theory was born from the exploration of science itself. If all the scientific data ever known to mankind was uploaded into the largest most powerful super computer in the world and we ask it, "Explain the nature of reality? Why are we here? What are Black Holes? Explain the Wave Particle Duality? Why was water discovered on Mars? What is causing the earth's climate changes? Why do I see the dress gold and white and my wife sees a blue and black dress? Explain Epigenetics and why my grandmothers are more my real parents genetically? What causes gravity? Explain Saturn's hexagon? Explain Autism? Why do some people see ghosts? Why do I have Sleep Paralysis? What is Time? Can we go back in time? What causes the stock market to crash?" The computer would answer all the questions simultaneously because it merged all the data into one theory, one basic fundamental calculation that can be applied to everything. This is what makes a theory a "True" Theory of Everything. A theory of everything will also be understandable to all of mankind. Every living life form will be touched by it. We as humans have evolved enough to except our reality. We have the deepest desire to grow as a species for our own survival. The global collective conscious realizes we need a major epic breakthrough, that impacts every living thing, to be capable of a major change. A major shift in how we see ourselves and our place in the universe. "No matter what we discover, the truth is better than the mystery. I am ready to except the true nature of reality, even if it is as organic as the sunshine on my face; at least I know it is real". Clayton Nuckelt You may ask yourselves how was this theory discovered? By the best super computer on earth to this day, the human brain, and for a reason. The capabilities and capacities of the brain are still not understood. Because the simple physics of the mind are still unknown. We hope to bring light onto this subject. We hope you find our book compelling and fascinating. Priceless to some, a threat to others, but crucial to the survival of our species as well as all living things on earth. Thank You to all of you for your open minds and taking the time to investigate our work. We are more than eager to present this work in any forums or platforms as possible. Contact info at the end of book.Book Review:In an age where scientists have become as dogmatic as religious leaders and religious leaders blatantly ignoring and denying scientific facts. How does one take a mature well informed approach to life's mysteries without denying the doctrine of scientific experiment?By integrating the results and not the conclusions of over a hundred years of science into a thoroughly logical consistent, contingent framework of conceptual understanding Bushy Van Eck portrays science and spirituality as two sides of the same coin.Mainstream scientists have deduced the concept of consciousness to a mere series of biochemical reactions and electrical impulses. This book shows that within the parameters of those biochemical reactions resides a new science waiting to be explored. By elaborating further on the premises of polarity he shows how water is even more essential to life than previously thought.By rearranging Einstein's theory of relativity to use time as an invariable constant he has managed to consistently integrate the quantum theory solving many paradoxes of physics rendering them merely as a lack of insight into the experimental data rather than "spooky" or "strange".Joseph Conlon ll Ireland

The Ten Most Influential Buildings in History Architecture's Archetypes
Simon Unwin, "The Ten Most Influential Buildings in History: Architecture's Archetypes"
English | ISBN: 1138898465 | 2016 | 256 pages | PDF | 25 MB
Even the most inventive and revolutionary architects of today owe debts to the past, often to the distant past when architecture really was being invented for the first time. Architects depend on their own imaginations for personal insights and originality but their ideas may be stimulated (consciously or subliminally) by particularly powerful buildings from history. The Ten Most Influential Buildings in History: Architecture's Archetypes identifies ten architectural archetypes that have been sources of inspiration for architects through the centuries. Each archetype is analysed through distinctive examples, following the methodology established by the author in his previous books. The variety of 'lines of enquiry' each archetype has provoked in latter-day architects are then explored by analysing their work to reveal ideas inspired by those earlier buildings. Archetypes have a timeless relevance. In adopting this approach, The Ten Most Influential Buildings in History is as pertinent to contemporary practice as it is to understanding buildings from antiquity, and offers insights into the bridges of influence that can operate between the two.
