Free Download Kant and the Foundations of Morality By Halla Kim
2015 | 252 Pages | ISBN: 0739179004 | EPUB | 1 MB
Halla Kim explores the leading themes in Kant's philosophical ethics from a structural-methodological point of view to highlight the activities of reason vis-à-vis the blind forces of brute nature. Basing the study on Kant's short, but monumental, Groundwork of the Metaphysics of Morals, Kim also draws on other major writings by Kant and his critics. Kim shows that philosophical ethics, as Kant conceived it, must capture the gist of the ineluctable, inescapable, and irreducible freedom we strive to exemplify in our practical lives. Viewed this way, the moral law is none other than the law of the will determining itself. It is the law of the self-activity of the will. Contending that the concepts and doctrines in Kant's ethics should be understood as an ethics of the self-activity of the will, Kim argues that the categorical imperative is the particular way this moral law is addressed to finite rational beings. Kant and the Foundations of Morality provides new perspective on the philosopher's thought to benefit studies of eighteenth-century philosophy, epistemology, modern philosophy, moral theory, moral philosophy, and ethics.

Free Download Justinian (The Medieval World) by John Moorhead
English | February 9, 2015 | ISBN: 1138836400 | 192 pages | PDF, EPUB | 9.41 Mb
The reign of Justinian (527-65) was a key phase in the transition from the Roman empire of classical times to the Byzantine empire of the Middle Ages. Justinian himself, born of peasant stock in a provincial backwater, was one of the greatest rulers yet, despite prodigious achievements, he remained an outsider in the sophisticated society of Constantinople. Here, John Moorhead reinterprets Justinian as man and monarch, together with his formidable empress, the ex-actress Theodora, and assesses the evidence from their time for the evolution of a distinctively medieval world.

Free Download David Steele, "Justice-Oriented Science Teaching and Learning: Anchoring Phenomena in Secondary Classrooms "
English | ISBN: 3031762967 | 2025 | 478 pages | EPUB | 59 MB
This textbook provides K-12 science teachers and educators innovative uses of anchoring phenomenon-based teaching approaches from a justice-oriented lens (Morales-Doyle, 2017). It discusses topics such as the use of anchoring phenomenon-based pedagogies, qualities of productive anchoring phenomena and includes examples of unit plans that use anchoring phenomena and social justice science issues to create storylines to foster students' multiple pathways to knowing and learning in the science classrooms. The book is beneficial to K-12 science teachers and science educators who are interested in facilitating students' sense-making of a real-world phenomenon and engaging in three-dimensional science instruction (NGSS Lead States, 2013). By providing examples of unit plans based on theoretical groundings of anchoring phenomenon-based instruction and justice-oriented science teaching, this book provides a great resource to students, professionals, teachers, and academics in science education.
