Free Download Renewing Pastoral Practice: Trinitarian Perspectives on Pastoral Care And Counselling By Neil Pembroke
2006 | 126 Pages | ISBN: 0754655652 | PDF | 1 MB
This is the first comprehensive treatment of the relationship between the doctrine of the Trinity and pastoral care and counselling. Neil Pembroke contends that an in-depth reflection on the relational dynamics in the Godhead has the capacity to radically renew pastoral practice. Pembroke applies the notion of relational space to care in a parish setting. The life of the triune God is defined by both closeness and open space. The divine persons indwell each other in love, but they also provide space for the expression of particularity. This principle of closeness-with-space is applied in three different pastoral contexts, namely, community life, spiritual friendship, and pastoral conversations. The specialized ministry of pastoral counselling is the focus in the second half of the book. Informing the various explorations is the principle of participation through love: the divine persons participate in each other's existence through loving self-communication. Pembroke shows how this trinitarian virtue is at the centre of three key counselling dynamics: the counselling alliance, empathy, and mirroring.

Free Download Rendering the Word in Theological Hermeneutics By Mark Alan Bowald
2007 | 214 Pages | ISBN: 0754658775 | PDF | 1 MB
This book proposes an original typology for grasping the differences between diverse types of biblical interpretation, fashioned in a triangle around a major theological and philosophical lacuna: the relation between divine and human action. Despite their purported concern for reading God's word, most modern and postmodern approaches to biblical interpretation do not seriously consider the role of divine agency as having a real influence in and on the process of reading Scripture. Mark Bowald seeks to correct and clarify this deficiency by demonstrating the inevitable role that divine agency plays in contemporary proposals in relation to human agency enacted in the composition of the biblical text and the reader. This book presents an important contribution to the emerging field of theological hermeneutics.

Free Download Remaking the American Mainstream: Assimilation and Contemporary Immigration By Richard Alba, Victor Nee
2003 | 384 Pages | ISBN: 067401040X | PDF | 1 MB
In this age of multicultural democracy, the idea of assimilation--that the social distance separating immigrants and their children from the mainstream of American society closes over time--seems outdated and, in some forms, even offensive. But as Richard Alba and Victor Nee show in the first systematic treatment of assimilation since the mid-1960s, it continues to shape the immigrant experience, even though the geography of immigration has shifted from Europe to Asia, Africa, and Latin America. Institutional changes, from civil rights legislation to immigration law, have provided a more favorable environment for nonwhite immigrants and their children than in the past. Assimilation is still driven, in claim, by the decisions of immigrants and the second generation to improve their social and material circumstances in America. But they also show that immigrants, historically and today, have profoundly changed our mainstream society and culture in the process of becoming Americans. Surveying a variety of domains--language, socioeconomic attachments, residential patterns, and intermarriage--they demonstrate the continuing importance of assimilation in American life. And they predict that it will blur the boundaries among the major, racially defined populations, as nonwhites and Hispanics are increasingly incorporated into the mainstream.

Free Download Relocating Indonesia's Capital City: The Struggle for Power and Resources in Borneo by Poltak Partogi Nainggolan, Riris Katharina, Pihri Buhaerah
English | October 28, 2025 | ISBN: 9819522773 | 189 pages | True ePUB, PDF | 27 Mb
This book looks at the process of relocating Indonesia's capital from Jakarta to Nusantara in East Kalimantan. It looks critically at the surrounding conflict and its causes, as well as the solution from the perspective of evidence-based-policy and regulatory impacts assessments whose presence is increasingly needed today, to campaign for participatory policies and achieve the right targets. It is not widely known that the process of relocation of the capital took place behind closed doors and unilaterally. Through a closed legislative process, without public debate, and by amending the constitution later, this takeover process took place without resistance from disadvantaged regions. Following this, when the central government faced financing difficulties along the way, its development budget initially relied on foreign investment, then became dependent on domestic financing, both sourced from state finances (APBN) and local resources. From here, the book maps the subsequent problems that arose, the first of which relates to local resources. It shows how local residents are also affected with land evictions without proper relocation. Through political-economic research and analysis, the book dissects the conflict as it appears in central-regional power relations, by exploring the roots of the problem and recommending several solutions, as well as looking at possible future development of the conflict. This timely book is helpful to those who carry out development studies and are involved in making public policy for campus, government, parliament and the business world.

Free Download Luca Ozzano, Francesco Cavatorta, "Religiously Oriented Parties and Democratization"
English | 2014 | ISBN: 113877538X | EPUB | pages: 184 | 1.9 mb
To the surprise of both academics and policy-makers, religion has not been relegated entirely to the private sphere; quite the contrary. Over the last few decades, religion has begun to play a significant role in public affairs and, in many cases, directly in political systems. This edited volume analyses in detail how religion and religious precepts inform the ideology, strategies and electoral behaviour of political parties. Working with an original and innovative typology of religiously oriented political parties, the book examines cases from different regions of the world and different religious traditions to highlight the significance of religion for party politics. This interest for religiously oriented parties is combined with an interest in processes of democratic change and democratic consolidation. Political parties are central to the success of processes of democratization while religion is seen in many circles as an element that prevents such success because it is perceived to be a polarising factor detrimental to the consensus necessary to build a liberal-democratic system. Through the different case-studies presented here, a much more complex picture emerges, where religiously oriented political parties perform very different and often contradicting roles with respect to democratic change.

Free Download Religious Values and Restoration in Historic Cairo: The Iḥyāʾ of al-Jāmiʿ al-Anwar (Heritage Studies in the Muslim World) by Aliasger Najam Madraswala
English | November 14, 2025 | ISBN: 3032071461 | 164 pages | True ePUB, PDF | 28 Mb
This book offers the first in-depth study of the 1980 restoration of al-Jāmiʿ al-Anwar-also known as the Mosque of al-Ḥākim bi Amr Allāh-by the Dawoodi Bohra Muslim community. Long portrayed by experts as having breached international conservation norms, the restoration project is reexamined here through primary sources, interviews, and archival research, and viewed through the lens of the community's religious values. The book introduces iḥyāʾ-"bringing to life"-as a distinct Islamic philosophy of conservation, showing how sacred architecture is maintained not only as heritage but as living religious space. Challenging dominant narratives in heritage discourse, this book highlights the intersection of faith, identity, and conservation, offering valuable insights for scholars and practitioners working with religious communities and sacred sites.
