Free Download David J. Shernoff, "Integrative STEM and STEAM Education for Real-Life Learning "
English | ISBN: 3031698231 | 2024 | 276 pages | EPUB | 24 MB
This book illustrates that real-life learning in which students conduct scientific investigations and make new innovations to solve real-world problems is an integral part of STEM (science, technology, engineering, math) and STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, math) education. It provides examples of student and teacher work from projects of the Rutgers University Center of Mathematics, Science, and Computer Education. The book examines how new K to 12 education standards and innovative teacher professional development programs - which emphasize transdisciplinary approaches to STEM and STEAM - lead to the emergence of real-life education in schools. In addition, the book references related research to identify key advances in STEM and STEAM education. Special topics include the uses of makerspaces, educational video games, artificial intelligence (AI), and machine learning to fuel project-based, real-life learning.

Free Download Chapter 1
by Frank Columbus

English | 2025 | ISBN: 9798895303207 | 359 pages | True PDF | 44.55 MB
There are countless uses for insects in science, education, and research. They are animals that developed life on Earth before humans. Almost every type of environment is inhabited by insects, who rule the animal kingdom and are the primary rivals of humans for food, shelter, and other natural resources. They affect all species, including humans, whether directly or indirectly. Without insects, our lives would be drastically different. Insects pollinate a large number of our fruits, flowers, and vegetables, yet certain species damage crops by becoming pests. They are key predators, bioindicators, producers of valuable human goods, forensic assistance, and, of course, experimental models. They also destroy crops, taint food, and spread disease. The importance of insects in the food chain is often overlooked. For many birds, mammals, reptiles, and amphibians, they are their only source of food. In certain civilisations, people harvest and consume insects themselves. They are considered delicacies in many third-world nations and are rich in protein, vitamins, and minerals. It is hard to locate bugs that humans do not eat in one way or another. Thus, it is crucial to pay attention to the various roles that insects play in human existence. This book covers a wide range of issues, with an emphasis on both the positive and negative impacts of insects on humans.

Free Download Werner E. G. Müller, "Inorganic Polyphosphates: From Basic Research to Medical Application "
English | ISBN: 3031012364 | 2022 |199 pages | EPUB | 33 MB
This volume focuses on the biomedical aspects of inorganic polyphosphates, a family of unique bio-inorganic polymers.
In recent years, great advances have been made in understanding the development, metabolism, and physiological role of inorganic polyphosphates. These energy-rich polymers, which consist of long chains of phosphate units, are evolutionary old molecules. The acidocalcisomes, conserved organelles from bacteria to humans, as well as the mitochondria play a central role in polyphosphate production and storage. Polyphosphates have been assigned multiple functions, some of which are closely related to medically important processes, such as blood coagulation and fibrinolysis, energy metabolism, cell cycle regulation, apoptosis, chaperon function, microvascularization, stress response, neurodegeneration and aging. The development of bioinspired polyphosphate particles, in combination with suitable hydrogel-forming polymers enabled the development of new strategies in regenerative medicine, in particular for hard and soft tissue repair, but also in drug delivery and antimicrobial defense.
