"At fifteen my heart was set on learning; at thirty I stood firm; at forty I had no more doubts; at fifty I knew the will of heaven; at sixty my ear was obedient; at seventy I could follow my heart's desire without overstepping the boundaries of what was right." - Confucius "Confucius has no interest in falsehood; he did not pretend to be prophet; he claimed no inspiration; he taught no new religion; he used no delusions; flattered not the emperor under whom he lived..." - Voltaire Many people argue that Confucius is the most influential person of all time, and if having a significant effect on the greatest number of people is the criterion, he may very well be. China is one of the largest and oldest civilizations on earth, and Confucius has been influential there from almost the beginning: the first Chinese dynasty was founded around 1600 BCE and Confucius lived from 551-479 BCE. Although he is still one of history's most famous philosophers, Confucius was in many respects an unremarkable man, and even his physical features were said to be unattractive. There is little evidence that he thought of himself as a harbinger of any kind, but shortly after his death, writings, sayings, and theories based on his life and ideas spread throughout China and even took hold of the imperial court of one of the most powerful and important dynasties, the Han (206 BCE-220 CE). It was during the Han Dynasty that Confucianism became closely tied to state affairs, and it would remain so until the fall of the last dynasty in 1912. Confucianism was closely tied to state religious and ritual practice, and naturally, it benefited greatly from this relationship and was able to subsequently exert influence on all aspects of society. As a "state religion", it provided "religious sanction for policy-making, official sacrifices, court ceremonies, royal marriage, funeral and mourning rights" as well as several major sacrifices to gods and ancestors. Confucianism continues to reverberate to the present day; the Chinese Communist Party still discusses Confucius in their official newspapers and references his thought when they think it will help promote a political or social stance. Eventually Confucius himself was worshiped as a sage, though accounts of his own opinions of himself are nothing but humble. As his great successor Mencius (372-289 BCE) put it, "Since humanity came into this world, there has never been one greater than Confucius." The description of the capture of a unicorn in the important Confucian classic, the Spring and Autumn Annals, was taken as a sign that Confucius was chosen by heaven to found a new moral dynasty. The state ritual sacrifice to Confucius grew rapidly in importance during the Han dynasty and continued to grow in later dynasties. In 630, for example, the Tang dynasty (618-907) founder ordered that every district and country establish a Confucius temple. Confucius: The Life and Legacy of China's Greatest Philosopher examines the life and teachings of the ancient philosopher. Along with pictures, footnotes and a bibliography, you will learn about Confucius like never before, in no time at all. ![]() Daniel S. Cohan, "Confronting Climate Gridlock: How Diplomacy, Technology, and Policy Can Unlock a Clean Energy Future" English | ISBN: 030025167X | 2022 | 256 pages | MOBI | 901 KB An atmospheric scientist explains why global climate change mitigation and energy decarbonization demand American diplomacy, technology, and policy ![]() Confronting 9-11, Ideologies of Race, and Eminent Economists By Paul Zarembka 2002 | 468 Pages | ISBN: 0762309849 | PDF | 17 MB Confronting 9-11 in the first chapter draws upon a Hegelian-Marxist concept of concrete evil, connecting malevolence to ruling elites, while additionally addressing sub-surface political forces. It is followed by 'deep political' analysis of drugs, in addition to oil, as controlling factors of U. S. wars. Both chapters focus around Afghanistan. Commonalties of race ideologies in capitalist contexts are next examined by connecting it to capitalist societies' goals and strategies. Haiti and South Africa are case studies.Estimates for U. S. value and surplus value are undertaken and related to GDP. Implications are drawn for the distribution of value, use value and social labor. The model permits simulation and sensitivity analysis, with links provided to a careful implementation.Four chapters deal critically with writings of major economists. The first shows that Keynes, while rejecting invisible hand mechanisms, assigned to the educated bourgeoisie role of overcoming the pathologies of capitalism. The second investigates evidence of plagiarism in Keynes, showing that he appropriated Gesell's insights into the nature of money andinterest but in a manner to help preserve capitalism. Moving to overcome limited attention by Marxists to Ricardo's comparative advantage theory, the next chapter assesses the work of Shaikh and Hudson, concluding consistent with the overriding role of exploitation in production. The final chapter compares Bentham's "panopticon" (an institution of confinement, surveillance and extraction of labor) to Hayek's market order conceptualization, and shows that both are disciplinary regimes. ![]() Conflict Management and African Politics: Ripeness, Bargaining, and Mediation (Routledge Studies in Security and Conflict Management) By Terrence Lyons, Gilbert M. Khadiagala 2008 | 169 Pages | ISBN: 0415443016 | PDF | 2 MB This edited volume builds on a core set of concepts developed by I. William Zartman to offer new insights into conflict management and African politics. Key concepts such as ripe moments, hurting stalemates, and collapsed states, are built upon in order to show how conflict resolution theory may be applied to contemporary challenges, particularly in Africa. The contributors explore means of pre-empting negotiations over bribery, improving outcomes in environmental negotiations, boosting the capacity of mediators to end violent conflicts, and finding equitable negotiated outcomes. Other issues dealt with in the book include the negotiation of relations with Europe, the role of culture in African conflict resolution, the means to enhance security in unstable regional environments, and the strategic role of the United States in mediating African conflicts. This book will be of much interest to students of international conflict management, peace/conflict studies, African politics and IR in general. ![]() Confessions of Zeno by Italo Svevo, translated by Beryl de Zoete English | March 30, 2022 | ISBN: 1922491527, 9781922491534 | True EPUB | 302 pages | 0.8 MB 'Italy's first modernist ... a marvellous writer, unjustly neglected. Their collected papers, a unique survival from the clandestine world of early English nonconformity, are here printed in full for the first time, together with a hitherto unpublished narrative by the Suffolk minister, Thomas Rogers, which throws a flood of light on similar, if more public, clerical activity in and around Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk, during the same period. Taken together, the two texts provide an unrivalled insight into the minds and the methods of that network of 'godly' ministers whose professed aim was to modify the strict provisions of the Elizabethan settlement of religion, both by ceaseless lobbying and by practical example. The editors' introduction accordingly emphasizes the complex nature of the English protestant tradition between the Tudor mid-century and the accession of James I, as well as attempting to Description the politico-ecclesiastical developments of the 1580s in some detail. A comprehensive biographical register of the members of the Dedham conference, of the Bury St Edmunds lecturers, and of many other important names mentioned in the texts, completes the volume. ![]() Concepts of Semi-Conductors by 3G Elearning English | January 1, 2024 | ISBN: 1984678876 | 292 pages | PDF | 30 Mb Electronic circuits and semiconductors have been causing a leap that cannot be ignored. There is no one on the planet who has never used semiconductors before. Electronic systems are enhanced by semiconductors, which are used in communication, computing, healthcare, military technology, transportation, clean energy, and many other fields. A semiconductor, also known as an integrated circuit (IC) or microchip, is made of silicon or germanium and is doped, in which small amounts of other elements are added to alter how electricity flows. During the Internet of Things (IoT) era, where physical devices all over the world will be connected to the internet and seamlessly collect and share data via 5G networks, semiconductors will continue to play a critical role. The toaster might turn on with your smartphone eventually, and your fitness tracker might receive the information. A growing number of devices (or billions) will generate data that will need to be analyzed in data centers. Those semiconductors are made on 12-inch silicon wafers. With the rise of 5G and artificial intelligence, the demand for advanced semiconductors has been increasing. Auto companies typically need semiconductors that are fabricated on silicon wafers of eight inches in diameter. It has been decades since car makers used chips for braking, but in recent years, their reliance on chips has increased as they have added more sophisticated features, such as navigation control, infotainment systems, and collision detection systems. To manage power and heat generated by electric cars, chip demand has also risen. There are seven chapters in this book. ![]() Concepts of Database by Biel Sacristán English | 2023 | ISBN: 1984656686 | 185 pages | PDF | 1.46 Mb A DBMS generally manipulates the data itself, the data format, field names, record structure and file structure. It also defines rules to validate and manipulate this data. It includes representing information with the relational database model, manipulating data with an interactive query language (SQL) and database programming, database development including internet applications, and database security, integrity and privacy issues. ![]() Concepts and Reality in the History of Philosophy: Tracing a Philosophical Error From Locke to Bradley (Routledge Advances in the History of Philosophy) By Fiona Ellis 2005 | 176 Pages | ISBN: 0415334780 | PDF | 2 MB This book traces a deep misunderstanding about the relation of concepts and reality in the history of philosophy. It exposes the influence of the mistake in the thought of Locke, Berkeley, Kant, Nietzche and Bradley, and suggests that the solution can be found in Hegelian thought. Ellis argues that the treatment proposed exemplifies Hegel's dialectical method. This is an important contribution to this area of philosophy. ![]() Concept of Time-Series Database by Ajit Singh English | September 6, 2025 | ISBN: N/A | ASIN: B0FQ3T6SRK | 303 pages | EPUB | 1.95 Mb This book, "Concept of Time-Series Database," is born out of a clear necessity. As educator and professional, I observed a significant gap in academic literature. While countless resources exist for relational and NoSQL databases, a dedicated, student-focused guide that navigates the landscape of time-series databases from foundational principles to advanced, practical implementation was conspicuously absent. This text is my endeavor to fill that void, providing a comprehensive roadmap for the next generation of engineers, developers, and data scientists. |
