Legal and Ethical Retributivism A Restorative Analysis

Free Download Legal and Ethical Retributivism: A Restorative Analysis
by Halil Cesur
English | 2026 | ISBN: 1032914068 | 194 Pages | True ePUB | 0.83 MB
This book explores a foundational philosophical tension in contemporary retributivism, revealing ambiguities in its approach to punishment between two conflicting conceptions of restoration: legal justice and ethical love. Through an analysis of the three parties involved in a crime - the victim, the offender and the state - it argues that neo-retributivism has not sufficiently incorporated the ethical face of punishment into its theoretical framework. The pull of legal justice is often so strong that the voice of ethical love is silenced; neo-retributivism is at an impasse. To navigate this, the book engages with contemporary critical criminal justice scholarship, introducing the ideal of loving justice while highlighting an unresolved tension between penal reformism and abolitionism.

Legal Protection of Vulnerable Groups in Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia and Poland Trends and Perspectives

Free Download Agnė Limantė, "Legal Protection of Vulnerable Groups in Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia and Poland: Trends and Perspectives "
English | ISBN: 3031069978 | 2022 | 426 pages | EPUB | 1253 KB
This book analyses the current legal situation and protection of vulnerable groups in Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia and Poland. In recent decades, national legislation in many European states has especially focused on vulnerable groups with the aim of securing their enhanced protection and social inclusion. This trend is also noticeable in North-Eastern Europe, where the legal frameworks are constantly being revised to address the needs of vulnerable parts of society, including women, children, the elderly, people with disabilities, and minorities, as well as prisoners and victims of crime. But despite these positive changes, many challenges persist.
In this book, the authors provide a comprehensive, comparative analysis of legal regulations and practices intended to protect vulnerable groups in Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia and Poland, and in the process, share insights into the current situation and trends in this often-overlooked region. Part I introduces readers to the topic by defining the concept of vulnerable groups and elaborating on its understanding in the European and national contexts. Part II analyses the legal protection of groups characterised by inherent and/or circumstantial vulnerability, while Part III addresses specific crime-related vulnerability issues in the target region. In closing, Part IV puts the spotlight on three specific vulnerable groups in the discussed countries.

Leadership in American Academic Geography The Twentieth Century

Free Download Leadership in American Academic Geography : The Twentieth Century By Michael S. DeVivo
2014 | 210 Pages | ISBN: 0739199129 | EPUB | 1 MB
Leadership in American Academic Geography: The Twentieth Century examines the practice of leadership in the most influential geography departments in the United States. Throughout the twentieth century, transformational leaders often emerged as inspirational department chairs, shaping the content and nature of the discipline and establishing models of leadership, often fueling the success of programs and sparking shifts in paradigms. Yet, on occasion, departmental chairmanships fell to individuals marked by laissez faire attributes, lapses in integrity, or autocratic behaviors, which at times led to disaster. Effective leaders within key academic departments played imperative roles in the discipline's prosperity, and in contrast, mediocrity in leadership contributed to periods of austerity. Michael S. DeVivo aims to offer not only a historical perspective on the geographic discipline, but also insight to leaders in geography, today and in the future, so that they might be able to avoid failure and instead develop strategies for success by recognizing effective leadership behaviors that foster high levels of achievement.

Language, Literature and Style in Africa A Festschrift for Professor Christopher Olatunji Awonuga

Free Download Language, Literature and Style in Africa : A Festschrift for Professor Christopher Olatunji Awonuga By Arua E. Arua; Taiwo Abioye; Kehinde Ayoola
2014 | 185 Pages | ISBN: 1443870447 | PDF | 1 MB
This book brings together the seminal contributions of scholars interested in the study of language, literature and style in Africa. It marks a response to the longstanding neglect of stylistic analysis of canonical and emergent fictional and non-fictional African prose and discourse. As a reaction to this neglect of African literary artefacts, the book provides a welcome and timely deviation from the norm. The contributions to this volume include discussions that are both analytical and theoretical; analyses of style at the levels of lexis and semantics; newer and more innovative analyses that highlight the relationship between style, pedagogy and technology-mediated discourse; and a final discussion that provides an appropriate background against which issues related to language, literature and style can be understood. In terms of the volume's representation of diverse geographical contexts, the papers included here bridge the North-South divide in Africa, and there are contributions from Libya, Nigeria, South Africa and Zimbabwe. As such, the book is an interesting collection of papers that illuminate the study of literary style in Africa and highlight the need for a greater revival of it on a larger scale.
