Language Contact in Sanandaj A Study of the Impact of Iranian on Neo-Aramaic (Language Contact and Bilingualism
Free Download Language Contact in Sanandaj: A Study of the Impact of Iranian on Neo-Aramaic by Geoffrey Khan, Masoud Mohammadirad
English | November 6, 2023 | ISBN: 3111205789 | 614 pages | MOBI | 2.10 Mb
This book is a detailed study of contact-induced change in the Neo-Aramaic dialect of the Jews of Sanandaj, a town in western Iran. Since its foundation in early 17th century, the city has been home to a significant Jewish community. The Jewish Neo-Aramaic dialect of the town displays different historical layers of contact with various Iranian languages over the course of many centuries. The Iranian languages in question are Gorani, Kurdish, and Persian. Among these, Gorani has had a particularly deep impact on Jewish Neo-Aramaic, whereas the impact of Kurdish, and especially Persian, remains superficial. Jewish Neo-Aramaic records a history of language shift from Gorani to Kurdish in the region. The book offers insights into contact-induced change in social contexts in which a language is maintained as a demarcation of communal identity in a multilingual setting.

Langston Hughes and the Chicago Defender Essays on Race, Politics, and Culture, 1942-62
Free Download Langston Hughes and the *Chicago Defender*: Essays on Race, Politics, and Culture, 1942-62 By Langston Hughes
2022 | 179 Pages | ISBN: 0252064747 | EPUB | 1 MB
Langston Hughes is well known as a poet, playwright, novelist, social activist, communist sympathizer, and brilliant member of the Harlem Renaissance. He has been referred to as the "Dean of Black Letters" and the "poet low-rate of Harlem." But it was as a columnist for the famous African-American newspaper the Chicago Defender that Hughes chronicled the hopes and despair of his people. For twenty years, he wrote forcefully about international race relations, Jim Crow, the South, white supremacy, imperialism and fascism, segregation in the armed forces, the Soviet Union and communism, and African-American art and culture. None of the racial hypocrisies of American life escaped his searing, ironic prose. This is the first collection of Hughes's nonfiction journalistic writings. For readers new to Hughes, it is an excellent introduction; for those familiar with him, it gives new insights into his poems and fiction.

Lady Midrash Poems Reclaiming the Voices of Biblical Women
Free Download Lady Midrash : Poems Reclaiming the Voices of Biblical Women By Elisabeth Mehl Greene; Kendra Weddle Irons
2016 | 170 Pages | ISBN: 1498284191 | PDF | 1 MB
What if the women of the Bible told their own stories? Lady Midrash: Poems Reclaiming the Voices of Biblical Women brings to life alternative interpretations and forgotten female perspectives from the Hebrew Bible and New Testament. Following in the footsteps of Jewish midrash, a storytelling tradition that explores the gaps in scripture, these poems re-examine the experiences of Biblical women. Sidelined heroines are celebrated. Supposed villainesses get to speak for themselves. Lady Midrash reverses convention, probes familiar narratives, attends to small moments, highlights peripheral and silent characters, and names the nameless. The imagination of midrash provides the reader with a creative space to rethink assumptions and reconsider the accounts of women in the Jewish and Christian traditions.

Laburnum Grove
Free Download Laburnum Grove By J.B. Priestley
2013 | 77 Pages | ISBN: 1849434921 | EPUB | 1 MB
Nice little houses. Nice people. Quiet, respectable. No brokers' men. No scandals. No screams in the night. Morris Oxfords, little greenhouses, wireless sets.' Ferndale, Laburnum Grove. A quiet, residential address in one of the newer north London suburbs. George Radfern, decent, respectable citizen and householder spends his Sunday evenings in his greenhouse, listening to Handel on the wireless. But when his grasping in-laws and daughter's obnoxious beau try to coax more money from him, George makes an unlikely confession. An exploration of greed and dishonesty in suburban England, Priestley observes the facade of middle class respectability, and its crooked undercurrent with verve and humanity in this immorally comic story of money, family, and criminality.

La Edad Media proyectada
Free Download La Edad Media proyectada by Miguélez Cavero, Alicia

L-Functions An Elementary Introduction (UNITEXT, 171)
Free Download L-Functions: An Elementary Introduction (UNITEXT, 171) by Davide Lombardo
English | April 27, 2025 | ISBN: 3031851447 | 275 pages | PDF | 4.31 Mb
This book provides an accessible introduction to the theory of L-functions, emphasising their central role in number theory and their direct applications to key results. Designed to be elementary, it offers readers a clear pathway into the subject, starting from minimal background. It describes several important classes of L-functions - Riemann and Dedekind zeta functions, Dirichlet L-functions, and Hecke L-functions (for characters with finite image) - by showing how they are all special cases of the construction, due to Artin, of the L-function of a Galois representation. The analytic properties of abelian L-functions are presented in detail, including the full content of Tate's thesis, which establishes analytic continuation and functional equations via harmonic analysis. General Hecke L-functions are also discussed, using the modern perspective of idèles and adèles to connect their analytic theory with the representation-theoretic approach of Artin's L-functions. A distinguishing feature of this book is its accessibility: while largely avoiding arithmetic geometry, it provides introductions to both algebraic number theory and key aspects of representation theory. This approach ensures that the material is accessible to both beginning graduate students and advanced undergraduates. Applications play a central role throughout, highlighting how L-functions underpin significant results in number theory. The book provides complete proofs of the prime number theorem, Dirichlet's theorem on primes in arithmetic progressions, Chebotarev's density theorem, and the analytic class number formula, demonstrating the power of the theory in solving classical problems. It serves as an ideal introduction for advanced undergraduates and beginning graduate students and can also be a useful reference for preparing a course on the subject.
