Girls' Series Fiction and American Popular Culture
Free Download Girls' Series Fiction and American Popular Culture By LuElla D'Amico; Megan E. Friddle; Marlowe Daly-Galeano; Eva Lupold; Christiane E. Farnan; Paige Gray; Michael G. Cornelius; Carolyn Cocca; Nichole Bogarosh; Linda Simon
2016 | 319 Pages | ISBN: 1498517625 | EPUB | 1 MB
Girls' Series Fiction and American Popular Culture examines the ways in which young female heroines in American series fiction have undergone dramatic changes in the past 150 years, changes which have both reflected and modeled standards of behavior for America's tweens and teen girls. Though series books are often derided for lacking in imagination and literary potency, that the majority of American girls have been exposed to girls' series in some form, whether through books, television, or other media, suggests that this genre needs to be studied further and that the development of the heroines that girls read about have created an impact that is worthy of a fresh critical lens. Thus, this collection explores how series books have influenced and shaped popular American culture and, in doing so, girls' everyday experiences from the mid nineteenth century until now. The collection interrogates the cultural work that is performed through the series genre, contemplating the messages these books relay about subjects including race, class, gender, education, family, romance, and friendship, and it examines the trajectory of girl fiction within such contexts as material culture, geopolitics, socioeconomics, and feminism.

Ginger Baker - Hellraiser The Autobiography of The World's Greatest Drummer
Free Download Ginger Baker - Hellraiser: The Autobiography of The World's Greatest Drummer By Ginger Baker
2010 | 305 Pages | ISBN: 1844548171 | EPUB | 1 MB
Peter 'Ginger' Baker is a legend. A pioneering drummer who transcends genre, he's done much to popularise world music with his fierce passion for the rhythms of Africa. He is that rare thing - both critically acclaimed and globally successful. He has also lived a life more rock'n'roll than most.Ginger tells his story for the first time. It's often harrowing but outrageously honest as he journey's from war-torn south London to his adopted home in South Africa's beautiful Western Cape - where he has his own polo club. Along the way he tells of his life-long love of jazz, how he discovered the drums, life on the road and reveals the heroin use that should have killed him. He talks candidly of his three marriages, his induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame with Cream in 1993, their 2005 reunion and his own plans for the future.

Ghalib The Man, The Times
Free Download Ghalib: The Man, The Times By Pavan K Varma
2000 | 342 Pages | ISBN: 0140116648 | EPUB | 1 MB
A brilliant biography of one of India's greatest poets Mirza Mohammad Asadullah Khan Ghalib began writing poetry in Persian at the age of nine and the pre-eminent poet of the time, Mir, predicted a great future for the precocious genius when he was shown his verse. But success and material rewards did not come to Ghalib easily, for the times were against him, and he did not suffer fools gladly even if they occupied positions of importance. Ghalib was at the height of his powers when events took a turn for the worse. First came the decline of the Mughal court, then the rise of the British Empire and, finally, the Revolt of 1857. Though Ghalib lived through the upheavals and purges of the Revolt, in which many of his contemporaries and friends died and his beloved Delhi was irrevocably changed, he was a broken man and longed for death. When he died, on 15 February 1869, he left behind some of the most vivid accounts of the events of the period ever written. In this illuminating biography Pavan K. Varma evocatively captures the spirit of the man and the essence of the times he lived in.

Get to the End A Catholic's View of the End Times
Free Download Get to the End : A Catholic's View of the End Times By Michael Hickey
2016 | 157 Pages | ISBN: 0761867333 | EPUB | 1 MB
Get to the End is written about the end times, i.e. the end of the world and history as we know it. But it is written from a Catholic perspective. There are many books on the market that speak to the end times, however they are all written from a Protestant perspective and for the most part they are written by Christians from conservative churches who are generally Fundamentalist Christians. There are virtually no books written about the end times from a Catholic perspective. The few that have been written with a Catholic perspective of the end times have been written for the most part by Catholic priests and they are generally weighed down heavily in doctrine and dogma. This will be one of the first on the subject written by a Catholic layman who has a broader perspective than Catholic Doctrine and Dogma and who views himself as uniquely "in the world," but not "of the world."

George Oppen The Words in Action
Free Download George Oppen : The Words in Action By Richard Swigg
2016 | 233 Pages | ISBN: 1611487498 | EPUB | 1 MB
George Oppen's standing in American poetry has never been greater. Yet despite the mass of critical writing since his death in 1984, the essential basis of the verse--the words on the page and their acoustics--has rarely been the subject of discussion. In this book therefore Richard Swigg breaks away from the general trend of Oppen studies studies and offers the reader a direct way into the visual and auditory dimension of the poems. Ranging across the entire span of the work, from the 1930s to the 1970s, he traces for the first time the full extent of Oppen's engagement with the concrete world and his important poetic relationships with Charles Reznikoff, Denise Levertov, Charles Tomlinson and others.
