Contrastive Rhetoric Revisited and Redefined
Free Download Contrastive Rhetoric Revisited and Redefined By Clayann Gilliam Panetta
2000 | 147 Pages | ISBN: 0805836349 | EPUB | 1 MB
The theory of contrastive rhetoric was first put forth by Robert Kaplan in the mid 1960s to explain the differences in writing and discourse between students who were native speakers of English and their international counterparts. Over the past three decades, contrastive rhetoric theory has been used primarily by linguists in language centers and involved in ESL teaching. As the number of international students in American universities has continued to grow, contrastive rhetoric has become increasingly relevant to all disciplines, and to rhetoric and composition in particular. This volume breaks important new ground in its examination of contrastive rhetoric in the exclusive context of composition. The editor has assembled contributors with varying areas of specialty to demonstrate how the traditional definition of contrastive rhetoric theory can be applied to composition in new and innovative ways and how it can be redefined through the lens of addressing "difference" issues in writing. Thus, the volume as a whole clarifies how the basic principles of contrastive rhetoric theory can help composition instructors to understand writing and rhetorical decisions. With the inclusion of current research on multicultural issues, this collection is appropriate for all instructors in ESL writing, including teachers in rhetoric, composition, and linguistics. It can also be used as an advanced text for students in these areas. Wherever it is employed, it is certain to offer significant new insights into the application of contrastive rhetoric within the composition discipline.

Continuous Versions of Some Classical Inequalities (Frontiers in Mathematics)
Free Download Continuous Versions of Some Classical Inequalities (Frontiers in Mathematics) by Ludmila Nikolova, Lars-Erik Persson, Sanja Varošanec
English | April 27, 2025 | ISBN: 3031833716 | 156 pages | PDF | 2.19 Mb
This book presents the new fascinating area of continuous inequalities. It was recently discovered that several of the classical inequalities can be generalized and given in a more general continuous/family form. The book states, proves and discusses a number of classical inequalities in such continuous/family forms. Moreover, since many of the classical inequalities hold also in a refined form, it is shown that such refinements can be proven in the more general continuous/family frame.

Continuing Perspectives on the Black Diaspora
Free Download Continuing Perspectives on the Black Diaspora By Aubrey W. Bonnett; Walter F. Edwards; Calvin B. Holder; Fitzroy André Baptiste; Harry Goulbourne; Subhas Ramcharan; John F. Campbell; James W. Walker; Frances Henry; Carol Tator
2009 | 286 Pages | ISBN: 076184662X | EPUB | 1 MB
Continuing Perspectives on the Black Diaspora is a response to a 1990 publication that studied the persistence and resilience of black (African) diasporic populations in the Caribbean, Latin America, North America, and the United Kingdom. In that book, the authors used the themes of persistence and resilience to interrogate the social processes and the coping repertoire of these diasporic populations. This volume investigates the often-overlooked African presence in Asia. Researchers sought to determine how many of these diasporic populations have fared in the context of political independence, globalization / economic marginalization, and the presence of ethnic conflict and institutional racism, even with positive class formations and declining significance of race in other geographical areas. Prescriptions for the continued viability of these diasporic populations are provided. India and China are undergoing a global renaissance, emerging as potentially significant economic, political, and cultural actors on the world scene. Meanwhile, ancestral Africa is still socially, politically, and economically fragmented, thereby causing a new migratory 'push' to North America and Europe.

Contemporary Westerns Film and Television Since 1990
Free Download Contemporary Westerns : Film and Television Since 1990 By Andrew Patrick Nelson; Edward Buscombe
2013 | 202 Pages | ISBN: 0810892561 | EPUB | 1 MB
Though one of the most popular genres for decades, the western started to lose its relevance in the 1960s and 1970s, and by the early 1980s it had ridden into the sunset on screens both big and small. The genre has enjoyed a resurgence, however, and in the past few decades some remarkable westerns have appeared on television and in movie theaters. From independent films to critically acclaimed Hollywood productions and television series, the western remains an important part of American popular culture. Running the gamut from traditional to revisionist, with settings ranging from the old West to the "new Wests" of the present day and distant future, contemporary westerns continue to explore the history, geography, myths, and legends of the American frontier. In Contemporary Westerns: Film and Television since 1990, Andrew P. Nelson has collected essays that examine the trends and transformations in this underexplored period in Western film and television history. Addressing the new Western, they argue for the continued relevance and vibrancy of the genre as a narrative form. The book is organized into two sections: "Old West, New Stories" examines Westerns with common frontier locales, such as Dances with Wolves, Unforgiven, Deadwood, and True Grit. "New Wests, Old Stories" explores works in which familiar Western narratives, characters, and values are represented in more modern--and in one case futuristic--settings. Included are the films No Country for Old Men and There Will Be Blood, as well as the shows Firefly and Justified. With a foreword by Edward Buscombe, as well as an introduction that provides a comprehensive overview, this volume offers readers a compelling argument for the healthy survival of the Western. Written for scholars as well as educated viewers, Contemporary Westerns explores the genre's evolving relationship with American culture, history, and politics.
