London shows that while secular humanism has it's saints, sinners, and even its quasi-religious rituals, it is too anemic and self-centered a philosophy of life to serve America and the West in its battle against the threat of radical Islam. ![]() Free Download American Unitarianism and the Protestant Dilemma : The Conundrum of Biblical Authority By Lydia Willsky-Ciollo 2015 | 307 Pages | ISBN: 0739188925 | EPUB | 1 MB American Unitarians were not onlookers to the drama of Protestantism in the nineteenth century, but active participants in its central conundrum: biblical authority. Unitarians sought what other Protestants sought, which was to establish the Bible as the primary authority, only to find that the task was not so simple as they had hoped. This book revisits the story of nineteenth century American Unitarianism, proposing that Unitarianism was founded and shaped by the twin hopes of maintaining biblical authority and committing to total free inquiry. This story fits into the larger narrative of Protestantism, which, this book argues, has been defined by a deep devotion to the singular authority of the Bible (sola scriptura) and, conversely, a troubling ambivalence as to how such authority should function. How, in other words, can a book serve as a source of authority? This work traces the greater narrative of biblical authority in Protestantism through the story of four main Unitarian figures: William Ellery Channing, Andrews Norton, Theodore Parker, and Frederic Henry Hedge. All four individuals played a central role, at different times, in shaping Unitarianism, and in determining how exactly religious authority functioned in their nascent denomination. Besides these central figures, the book goes both backward, examining the evolution of biblical authority from the late medieval period in Europe to the early nineteenth century in America, and forward, exploring the period of Unitarian experimentation of religious authority in the late nineteenth century. The book also brings the book firmly into the present, exploring how questions about the Bible and religious authority are being answered today by contemporary Unitarian Universalists. Overall, this book aims to bring the American Unitarians firmly back into the historical and historiographical conversation, not as outliers, but as religious people deeply committed to solving the Protestant dilemma of religious authority. ![]() Free Download American Trivia: What We All Should Know About U.S. History, Culture & Geography by Richard Lederer, Caroline McCullagh English | February 1, 2012 | ISBN: 1423622774 | 144 pages | PDF | 5.12 Mb Go beyond baseball, hot dogs, and apple pie! ![]() Free Download American Foreign Relations: A Very Short Introduction (Very Short Introductions) by Andrew Preston English | May 1, 2019 | ISBN: 0199899398 | 168 pages | MOBI | 2.09 Mb For better or worse-be it militarily, politically, economically, technologically, or culturally-Americans have had a profound role in shaping the wider world beyond them. The United States has been a savior to some, a curse to others, but either way such views are often based on a caricature of American actions and intentions. American Foreign Relations, then, is a subject of immense global importance that provokes strong emotions and much debate, but often based on deep misunderstanding. ![]() Free Download American Autopsy: One Medical Examiner's Decades-Long Fight for Racial Justice in a Broken Legal System By Michael M. Baden, MD 2023 | 268 Pages | ISBN: 1637740468 | EPUB | 1 MB A revealing history of covering up the true causes of deaths of BIPOC in custody-from the forensic pathologist whose work changed the course of the George Floyd, Eric Garner, and Michael Brown cases Dr. Michael Baden has been involved in some of the most high-profile civil rights and police brutality cases in US history, from the government's 1976 re-investigation of the assassination of Martin Luther King, Jr., to the 2014 death of Michael Brown, whose case sparked the initial Ferguson protests that grew into the Black Lives Matter movement. The playbook hasn't changed since 1979, when Dr. Baden was demoted from his job as New York City's Chief Medical Examiner after ruling that the death of a Black man in police custody was a homicide. So in 2020 when the Floyd family, wary of the same system that oversaw George Floyd's death, needed a second opinion-Dr. Baden is who they called. In these pages, Dr. Baden chronicles his six decades on the front lines of the fight for accountability within the legal system-including the long history of medical examiners of using a controversial syndrome called excited delirium (a term that shows up in the pathology report for George Floyd) to explain away the deaths of BIPOC restrained by police. In the process, he brings to life the political issues that go on in the wake of often unrecorded fatal police encounters and the standoff between law enforcement and those they are sworn to protect. Full of behind-the-scenes drama and surprising revelations, American Autopsy is an invigorating-and enraging-read that is both timely and crucial for this turning point in our nation's history. ![]() Free Download Amazing Love : Theology for Understanding Discipleship, Sexuality and Mission By Andrew Davison 2016 | 83 Pages | ISBN: 0232532656 | EPUB | 1 MB Amazing Love brings together the wisdom and insight of leading Christian theologians to offer a clear and positive case for the affirmation of gay, lesbian, and bisexual relationships within the Church, as a part of its mission and as an integral part of Christian discipleship for the whole of our lives. By Ruth Roberts 2013 | 108 Pages | ISBN: 1780780265 | EPUB | 1 MB One time News of the World journalist tries to explain her new belief in Christianity to her friends at the same time as working out those beliefs for herself. It's a weird and puzzling world we enter when we become Christians. Ruth Roberts, a journalist and media worker who at one time was on the staff of The News of the World, found church completely alien. She shares with us her own experiences in the form of 'diary excerpts' and letters to her father. Entertaining, insightful and poignant, Am I Missing Something? is very honest in revealing the culture clash between Christianity and the secular life. Ruth explores the nature of her new-found belief, and her struggles to reconcile many of her own ideas with that of the church, including the issue of homosexuality. Am I Missing Something? is based on a column which appeared in Christianity magazine, with additional material. 'This book should carry a health warning. It will make you laugh, cry, and could possibly change your life. Ruth Roberts gives an enjoyable and refreshingly honest account of life as a new Christian in a lively evangelical church. Am I Missing Something? isn't down on church. Instead we're encouraged to model the love, healing, acceptance, grace and holiness to which we are called.' Each day they are bombarded by the media and society at large by images of how they should appear. The result? Most women feel they just don't measure up - and this beauty myth has crept into our churches too. Christian women may hear that they are made in the image of God; that he looks at the heart and not the outward appearance; that they have been set free from negative thought patterns. But often all that evaporates when they look in the mirror and compare themselves to the images of beauty they see around them. ![]() Free Download Alternative Investments Technology by Ankur Agarwal English | January 30, 2025 | ISBN: 103277178X | 170 pages | MOBI | 5.50 Mb The alternative investments technology market is still considered young and highly diverse, driving varied technology needs.
