The Bagratids The History and Legacy of the Kings Who Ruled Medieval Armenia
Free Download The Bagratids: The History and Legacy of the Kings Who Ruled Medieval Armenia by Charles River Editors
English | November 13, 2024 | ISBN: N/A | ASIN: B0DN2977F1 | 70 pages | EPUB | 2.44 Mb
During the reign of the Artaxiad dynasty, Armenia became a hub of trade and commerce, connecting the Silk Road and the Mediterranean world. The Armenian kings encouraged the development of agriculture, commerce, and arts, and the kingdom became renowned for its skilled artisans, writers, and philosophers. Of course, given its central location, the dynasty also faced numerous challenges, including repeated invasions by the Roman and Parthian empires, internal conflicts, and economic hardships. The dynasty's resilience and adaptability enabled it to survive for nearly two centuries, leaving behind a rich cultural and political legacy that has endured in the region, even as its historical memory was overshadowed by its more powerful neighbors. After the collapse of the Artaxiad dynasty (at the onset of the 1st century BCE), Rome and the kingdom of Parthia engaged in a competition for political influence in the vast territory of Greater Armenia. The Parthian Arshakunis endeavored to expel Rome from the region, aiming to establish the dominance of their own lineage. The political strategy devised by Parthian King Artabanus III, however, remained unrealized, as his sons Vorodes and Arshak I, who held the throne in Great Armenia, were deposed due to the intervention of the Roman Emperor Tiberius. By inciting the Alban, Georgian, and other neighboring tribes against the Armenians, Tiberius facilitated the ascendancy of Mithridates, the brother of Iberian King Pharasmanes, to the throne of Greater Armenia in the year 36.

The Artful Mind Cognitive Science and the Riddle of Human Creativity
Free Download Mark Turner, "The Artful Mind: Cognitive Science and the Riddle of Human Creativity"
English | 2006 | pages: 331 | ISBN: 0195306368 | PDF | 4,0 mb
All normal human beings alive in the last fifty thousand years appear to have possessed, in Mark Turner's phrase, "irrepressibly artful minds." Cognitively modern minds produced a staggering list of behavioral singularities-science, religion, mathematics, language, advanced tool use, decorative dress, dance, culture, art-that seems to indicate a mysterious and unexplained discontinuity between us and all other living things. This brute fact gives rise to some tantalizing questions: How did the artful mind emerge? What are the basic mental operations that make art possible for us now, and how do they operate? These are the questions that occupy the distinguished contributors to this volume, which emerged from a year-long Getty-funded research project hosted by the Center for Advanced Study in the Behavioral Sciences at Stanford. These scholars bring to bear a range of disciplinary and cross-disciplinary perspectives on the relationship between art (broadly conceived), the mind, and the brain. Together they hope to provide directions for a new field of research that can play a significant role in answering the great riddle of human singularity.

Professional success is usually seen as tied to our ability to manage our work, time, resources, and be a great individual contributor or a great manager and leader to our direct reports. The focus usually seems to be on managing and leading down, but in today's dynamic work environment, there is another skill that might matter more - the ability to effectively manage up and across. We see professionals who add a lot of value to the organization but whose value-add go unnoticed, unrecognized, and unappreciated. We see great and skilled employees quitting their job because they can not work productively with their boss, and are not presented with the right opportunities. We see professionals with beneficial ideas that can create a huge impact in the organization, unable to influence decision making or impact the wider business. Drawing on her personal experience, learning, and research, the founder and lead at N-BAC, Nejat Abdurahman, gives a step by step guide to help professionals and emerging leaders master this essential leadership skill so they can get appreciated, recognized and compensated for the value they add. The Art of Managing Up demystifies the concept of managing-up, lists why people fail to manage up and what gets in the way, and provides actionable insights to help readers to be in charge of their career, influence decision making, collaborate effectively with their boss and other leaders in the organization, inspire others to action (even without a title), and positively impact the wider business by fostering a more harmonious and productive work environment. By learning the art of managing up, professionals can be the CEO of their career, and add value to themselves, their boss, and the organization.
