Wide-Awake in God's World Bible Engagement for Teenage Spiritual Formation in a Culture of Expressive Individualism
Free Download Graham D. Stanton, "Wide-Awake in God's World: Bible Engagement for Teenage Spiritual Formation in a Culture of Expressive Individualism "
English | ISBN: 1725274566 | 2020 | 242 pages | EPUB | 2 MB
In an expressivist culture, effective engagement must acknowledge teenagers' freedom to choose their own spiritual path. Yet, in an evangelical theology, faithful formation must hold on to biblical authority. As we seek to engage young people with the Bible, key questions need to be explored. Such questions include: how can pedagogical freedom be affirmed without undermining theological authority; and how can authority be asserted without diminishing personal freedom?

Why We Homeschool The Meaning and Significance of Christian Education
Free Download Adam T. Calvert, "Why We Homeschool: The Meaning and Significance of Christian Education"
English | ISBN: 1532655908 | 2018 | 106 pages | EPUB | 1370 KB
When the topic of homeschooling comes up, there often seem to be various assumptions as to why we homeschool our children, which are simply wrong, or, at the most, inadequate. Yes, the government schools have bullies; yes, the government schools might be bigger targets for armed shootings; and yes, the government schools (even the ones in good school districts) have kids or teachers who will teach our children language or experiences that we would rather them not learn that early in life (or at all).

Why Love Will Always Be a Poor Investment Marriage and Consumer Culture
Free Download Kurt Armstrong, "Why Love Will Always Be a Poor Investment: Marriage and Consumer Culture"
English | ISBN: 1608994805 | 2011 | 142 pages | EPUB | 2 MB
"Marriage is intimate. Marriage is hard": sober thoughts for a time when movies and television tell us that love is supposed to be romantic and fun. In this eclectic blend of playful and earnest storytelling, social commentary, and fierce argument, Kurt Armstrong offers an up-close look at real-life marriage and the countless ways it differs from what the advertisers tell us it should be. With wisdom, wit, and profound honesty, he explores the aching beauty of love, the ongoing struggle to maintain vows, and the reality of death as the finishing line of covenant. "Even if love one day fills my heart full of grief," says Armstrong, "it is still the only thing worth living for." This moving, honest, heartfelt look at real-life marriage will strike a chord with single men and women, young couples, and seasoned veterans of married life.

Why Do the Nations Rage The Demonic Origin of Nationalism
Free Download David A. Ritchie, "Why Do the Nations Rage?: The Demonic Origin of Nationalism"
English | ISBN: 1666732206 | 2021 | 170 pages | EPUB | 4 MB
What if we understood nationalism as a religion instead of an ideology? What if nationalism is more spiritual than it is political? Several Christian thinkers have rightly recognized nationalism as a form of idolatry. However, in Why Do the Nations Rage?, David A. Ritchie argues that nationalism is inherently demonic as well. Through an interdisciplinary analysis of scholarship on nationalism and the biblical theology behind Paul's doctrine of "powers," Ritchie uncovers how the impulse behind nationalism is as ancient as the tower of Babel and as demonic as the worship of Baal. Moreover, when compared to Christianity, Ritchie shows that nationalism is best understood as a rival religion that bears its own distinctive (and demonically inspired) false gospel, which seeks to both imitate and distort the Christian gospel.

Why Did Jesus Die and What Does That Have to Do with Me A Biblical and Sacramental Understanding of Atonement
Free Download Fred R. Anderson, "Why Did Jesus Die and What Does That Have to Do with Me?: A Biblical and Sacramental Understanding of Atonement"
English | ISBN: 1666750999 | 2022 | 350 pages | EPUB | 1226 KB
This book looks at atonement biblically, theologically, historically, and sacramentally. Biblically it is tied to Scripture's narrative of humanity's failure to fulfill God's intention and God's subsequent covenant with Abraham fulfilled in Jesus. Theologically, in Jesus the eternal Logos became incarnate to fulfill God's intention to deal with sin and begin again with a new creation. Jesus' death was not a payment for anything to anyone! It was the Triune God's non-violent way of absorbing, defeating, and overcoming sin and death for the world. Two chapters focus on sacrifice: how it functioned in Israel's life with God, how Paul and Hebrews use it, and how it thereafter took on pagan connotations. Historically, three chapters review the development of atonement theories through Gustav Aulén's Christus Victor. After reviewing atonement theologies of the last seventy-five years-especially feminist critiques of them-this retrieves Irenaeus and Athanasius, offering an understanding of atonement influenced by Baillie, Barth, Moltmann, Torrance, Von Balthazar, Tanner, and Weaver. Sacramentally, it describes how atonement is realized through the word, baptism, Eucharist, and prayer. Sacramental "atonement" nurtures those "in Christ" as members of God's new creation through Jesus' continuing high priestly ministry of atonement, until his final return.

Why Christians Should Not Tithe A History of Tithing and a Biblical Paradigm for Christian Giving
Free Download James D. Quiggle, "Why Christians Should Not Tithe: A History of Tithing and a Biblical Paradigm for Christian Giving"
English | ISBN: 1606089269 | 2009 | 174 pages | EPUB | 2 MB
The premise of Why Christians Should Not Tithe is simple: God, having freed his people from the Law through faith in Jesus Christ, does not place on them a burden from the Law. The thesis is equally as simple: Christian giving is not a tithe. Christ challenges the believer to give himself and his possessions to the gospel cause, but the tithe fixes a limit and implies nothing more is needed. Why Christians Should Not Tithe is a thorough discussion of the four tithes in Moses' Law, Jesus' comments on tithing, and the twenty-one principles of giving developed by the apostles' in Acts and the epistles. Included is a brief review of the history of tithing from post-apostolic times to the present. The book concludes with a new paradigm for giving not based on the tithe, but on the apostles' doctrine of Christian giving. Should Christians tithe to support the gospel? Here is a study that will help every Christian discover the biblical answer for him or her self.

Why Call It God Theology for the Age of Science
Free Download Ralph Mecklenburger, "Why Call It God?: Theology for the Age of Science"
English | ISBN: 1725284936 | 2020 | 166 pages | EPUB | 1485 KB
Why Call It God? contends that God is the order of the universe, including "divine intangibles" such as love, justice, beauty, and compassion, which correctly give us faith that our lives have purpose and meaning. The age-old problem of evil, science increasingly explaining how the world works when we used to turn to God and religion for answers, and rampant secularism have produced a decline in religion, though less a rebellion than simply a drifting away. We need to understand that God is the order of the universe and thus the ultimate source of life, meaning, and spirituality. Since no one fully understands the divine, all God talk is metaphorical and approximate. Many moderns mistakenly think they are religious doubters when in fact they are just holding on to personal metaphors for God as "king" and "judge" when they could, and most often do, believe in the awe-inspiring order of being, a conviction enhanced by science, religion, ethics, and the arts.
