An Introduction to Kolmogorov Complexity and Its Applications
Free Download An Introduction to Kolmogorov Complexity and Its Applications by Ming Li , Paul Vitányi
English | PDF | 1993 | 566 Pages | ISBN : N/A | 53.5 MB
We are to admit no more causes of natural things (as we are told by New- ton) than such as are both true and sufficient to explain their appearances. This central theme is basic to the pursuit of science, and goes back to the principle known as Occam's razor: "if presented with a choice between indifferent alternatives, then one ought to select the simplest one". Uncon- sciously or explicitly, informal applications of this principle in science and mathematics abound.

Alles relativ Ethische Orientierungen zwischen Beliebigkeit und Verantwortung. Vadian Lectures Band 3
Free Download Alles relativ?: Ethische Orientierungen zwischen Beliebigkeit und Verantwortung. Vadian Lectures Band 3 By Mathias Lindenau (editor); Marcel Meier Kressig (editor)
2017 | 116 Pages | ISBN: 3839437482 | PDF | 1 MB
The question of values and norms are declared morally binding, and whether or not they can claim universal validity is disputed. For example, it is by no means clear what our obligations are with respect to our families, or which responsibilities derive from our collective histories. Can we then simply act at our own discretion? Are generally accepted values and norms being taken over by universal pluralism and the range of courses of action possible in modern societies? What can we use to orient ourselves? The contributions from Konrad Paul Liessmann, Barbara Bleisch, Clemens Sedmak, and Susan Neiman provide profound insights into the tension between pluralism of values and moral responsibility.

Algorithmic and Combinatorial Algebra
Free Download Algorithmic and Combinatorial Algebra by L. A. Bokut' , G. P. Kukin
English | PDF | 1994 | 399 Pages | ISBN : 0792323130 | 29.9 MB
Even three decades ago, the words 'combinatorial algebra' contrasting, for in stance, the words 'combinatorial topology,' were not a common designation for some branch of mathematics. The collocation 'combinatorial group theory' seems to ap pear first as the title of the book by A. Karras, W. Magnus, and D. Solitar [182] and, later on, it served as the title of the book by R. C. Lyndon and P. Schupp [247]. Nowadays, specialists do not question the existence of 'combinatorial algebra' as a special algebraic activity. The activity is distinguished not only by its objects of research (that are effectively given to some extent) but also by its methods (ef fective to some extent). To be more exact, we could approximately define the term 'combinatorial algebra' for the purposes of this book, as follows: So we call a part of algebra dealing with groups, semi groups , associative algebras, Lie algebras, and other algebraic systems which are given by generators and defining relations {in the first and particular place, free groups, semigroups, algebras, etc. )j a part in which we study universal constructions, viz. free products, lINN-extensions, etc. j and, finally, a part where specific methods such as the Composition Method (in other words, the Diamond Lemma, see [49]) are applied. Surely, the above explanation is far from covering the full scope of the term (compare the prefaces to the books mentioned above).

Algebraic Complexity Theory
Free Download Algebraic Complexity Theory by Peter Bürgisser , Michael Clausen , Mohammad Amin Shokrollahi
English | PDF | 1997 | 630 Pages | ISBN : 3540605827 | 50.2 MB
The algorithmic solution of problems has always been one of the major concerns of mathematics. For a long time such solutions were based on an intuitive notion of algorithm. It is only in this century that metamathematical problems have led to the intensive search for a precise and sufficiently general formalization of the notions of computability and algorithm. In the 1930s, a number of quite different concepts for this purpose were pro posed, such as Turing machines, WHILE-programs, recursive functions, Markov algorithms, and Thue systems. All these concepts turned out to be equivalent, a fact summarized in Church's thesis, which says that the resulting definitions form an adequate formalization of the intuitive notion of computability. This had and continues to have an enormous effect. First of all, with these notions it has been possible to prove that various problems are algorithmically unsolvable. Among of group these undecidable problems are the halting problem, the word problem theory, the Post correspondence problem, and Hilbert's tenth problem. Secondly, concepts like Turing machines and WHILE-programs had a strong influence on the development of the first computers and programming languages. In the era of digital computers, the question of finding efficient solutions to algorithmically solvable problems has become increasingly important. In addition, the fact that some problems can be solved very efficiently, while others seem to defy all attempts to find an efficient solution, has called for a deeper under standing of the intrinsic computational difficulty of problems.

Age, Accent and Experience in Second Language Acquisition
Free Download Age, Accent and Experience in Second Language Acquisition By Alene Moyer
2004 | 192 Pages | ISBN: 1853597198 | PDF | 1 MB
This work critically addresses the age debate in SLA, presenting an in-depth study of factors that predict foreign accent. Quantitative and qualitative analyses confirm that cognitive, social and psychological factors contribute to attainment, and that biological influences must be considered alongside these aspects of learner experience.
