Free Download Timothy E. G. Bartel, "Glimpses of Her Father's Glory: Deification and Divine Light in Longfellow's Evangeline"English | ISBN: 153266012X | 2019 | 210 pages | EPUB | 2 MB
Henry Wadsworth Longfellow's Evangeline was a bestseller in nineteenth-century America, inspiring generations of readers with a heroine who overcomes colonial violence and exile in her romantic and spiritual quest across America. Long ignored by modernist scholars, Evangeline is finally getting the critical attention it deserves. Drawing on original research in Longfellow's scholarly manuscripts, Bartel explores the theological sources and spiritual world of Evangeline, arguing that Longfellow was inspired by the church fathers to craft Evangeline into a heroine who uniquely exemplifies, in her epic quest, the ancient Christian doctrines of deification and divine light. Bartel's Glimpses of Her Father's Glory returns Evangeline to its rightful place as a major poem of American literature, one that takes as its theme nothing less than the ultimate purpose of human existence.
Free Download Tapiwa N. Mucherera, "Glimmers of Hope: Toward the Healing of Painful Life Experiences through Narrative Counseling"English | ISBN: 1620324679 | 2013 | 248 pages | EPUB | 843 KB
Every individual has a story-painful or happy-and the story will only be complete and meaningful when shared with others willing to listen to it. These are the stories of several people who embarked on a journey toward healing from abortion, adoption, abuse (sexual and spousal), anger, bullying, cutting, infertility, divorce, grief, people pleasing, and fear, as well as people struggling to break the chains of psychological colonialism/neocolonialism and to survive as orphans. This book contains a wealth of knowledge on how transformation of life can take place using Narrative Counseling. Most of the stories shared in this book are personal to many of the authors. Some share their journey of struggling with hopeless situations to where they regained hope through counseling using the Narrative approach. Others, such as the orphaned children, found relief in just having someone sit with them to listen to their daily struggles of living an orphaned life. In this book you will find a place where these stories will somehow intersect with your own story. Take a chance, read, and you will find a glimmer of hope in these stories.
Free Download Christopher Yuan, "Giving a Voice to the Voiceless: A Qualitative Study of Reducing Marginalization of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Same-Sex "English | ISBN: 1498289258 | 2016 | 198 pages | EPUB | 1061 KB
The problem this project addresses is the sense of marginalization experienced by lesbian, gay, bisexual (LGB) and same-sex attracted (SSA) Christian college and university students. Data was collected via an online questionnaire and the study design was mixed methods with an emphasis on the qualitative data. The study sample included eighty students/alumni from thirty-two Christian colleges/universities. Generally, respondents felt lonely, hid their sexuality, and reported a negative campus climate-not much different than secular colleges and universities. Recommendations from respondents include: institutional policies must be clearer and applied consistently, improve campus climate, and provide more programming and mentoring opportunities.
Free Download John Samuel Pobee, "Giving Account of Faith and Hope in Africa"English | ISBN: 1498295479 | 2017 | 352 pages | EPUB | 5 MB
What is African theology? What are its distinctive traits and characteristics, modes of investigation, and style of expression? Can African theology reach wider and run deeper than simple propositional articulation? What concerns and special circumstances have shaped its outlook? What unique burdens or hurdles imposed by the past must African theology surmount? What challenges and opportunities lie before it? What are African theology's prospects? As a field of Christian engagement, is it condemned to be only an appendage to theology imported from the West and the North? Or does it have a distinctive contribution to make and gifts to share, not just within the continent of Africa, but also with the Christian world at large? These questions exercise the mind and soul of the African church. A worthy capstone to a lifetime of service as a theologian, educator, and ecumenical leader, this volume offers John Samuel Pobee's considered and mature reflections on issues he raised nearly forty years ago when he published Toward an African Theology.
Free Download Daniel P. Fuller, "Give the Winds a Mighty Voice: The Story of Charles E. Fuller"English | ISBN: 1498207154 | 2015 | 248 pages | PDF | 103 MB
For almost thirty years, twenty million people tuned in weekly to Charles E. Fuller and the "Old Fashioned Revival Hour." Sunday after Sunday, they listened over radio as the crowd, gathered in Long Beach Auditorium, wafted the strains of "Jesus Saves" around the world. In this firsthand account Daniel P. Fuller chronicles the life and work of his father, a man whose name is almost synonymous with gospel broadcasting and who founded the theological seminary that bears his name. The strong evangelistic urge that dominated Charles E. Fuller's ministry permeates every page of Give the Winds a Mighty Voice. The early broadcasts, the struggle for financial support to stay on the air, and the sermons full of fiery concern for the lost made Charles E. Fuller an unparalleled phenomenon in the history of religious radio. More than that, he was a personal friend to those who gathered to hear the old gospel preached by a man who believed the whole Bible. Daniel Fuller probes into the deep intentions that motivated his father to strive by faith, and often against seemingly impossible odds, to keep the broadcast going. Quoting from the thousands of letters that arrived daily, he recounts the response that millions made as they listened around the world. The biography of Charles E. Fuller is the story of a religious movement. As you read Give the Winds a Mighty Voice, you will relive both the disappointments and the victories of which so many people were a part. Christians in every land are part of the rich heritage bestowed by Charles E. Fuller through the medium of gospel broadcasting. Your memory of the tradition will be enriched and cherished as you read this moving account of his life and thought.
Free Download Peter S Williams, "Getting at Jesus: A Comprehensive Critique of Neo-Atheist Nonsense about the Jesus of History"English | ISBN: 1532634269 | 2019 | 454 pages | EPUB | 3 MB
Portraying themselves as challenging blind religious dogma with evidence-led skepticism, the neo-atheist movement claims that the New Testament contains unreliable tales about a mythical figure who, far from being the resurrected Lord of life, may not even have lived. This comprehensive critique documents the falsehood of these neo-atheist claims, correcting their historical and philosophical mistakes to show how we can get at the truth about the historical Jesus.
