Pufall, Richard P. Unsworth, A. Wade Boykin, "Rethinking Childhood" English | 2003 | pages: 309 | ISBN: 0813533651 | PDF | 0,8 mb Being a child in American society can be problematic. Twenty percent of American children live in poverty, parents are divorcing at high rates, and educational institutions are not always fulfilling their goals. Against this backdrop, children are often patronized or idealized by adults. Rarely do we look for the strengths within children that can serve as the foundation for growth and development. InRethinking Childhood, twenty contributors, coming from the disciplines of anthropology, government, law, psychology, education, religion, philosophy, and sociology, provide a multidisciplinary view of childhood by listening and understanding the ways children shape their own futures. Topics include education, poverty, family life, divorce, neighborhood life, sports, the internet, and legal status. In all these areas, children have both voice and agency. They construct their own social networks and social reality, sort out their own values, and assess and cope with the perplexing world around them. The contributors present ideas that lead not only to new analyses but also to innovative policy applications. ![]() Free Download Roger Cox, Paul Brittain, "Retailing: An Introduction" English | 2004 | pages: 353 | ISBN: 0273678191 | PDF | 4,0 mb This text provides a comprehensive introduction to all aspects of retailing and the fundamental elements of retail management and a retail organisation¿s activities so that the reader will have a solid platform on which to build. ![]() Free Download Restarting Automata: Extensions and Generalizations English | 2025 | ISBN: 3031787005 | 328 Pages | PDF (True) | 5 MB The subject of this monograph are restarting automata. The definition of these automata is motivated by the linguistic technique of analysis by reduction. This technique, which can be used to analyze sentences in natural languages with a rather free word-order like Czech (or Latin or German), consists of a sequence of step-by-step simplifications of a given sentence. Each of these simplifications is realized by a single reduction operation, which consists of either the deletion of one or several words from that sentence or the replacement of a (possibly discontinuous) substring of that sentence by a shorter substring. It is required that each application of such a reduction operation must preserve the syntactical correctness of the sentence. Accordingly, a restarting automaton consists of a finite-state control, a flexible tape that initially contains the input, and a read-write window of a fixed finite size that works on that tape. The first type of restarting automaton was presented at the international conference FCT in 1995. This type was required to restart as soon as it executes a rewrite operation, that is, the window jumps back to the left end of the tape and the finite-state control is reset to the initial state. Moreover, each rewrite operation simply deletes one or more letters from the contents of the read-write window. Subsequently, many different variants of the restarting automaton have been defined and studied. ![]() Free Download Responsible Use of AI in Military Systems (Chapman & Hall/CRC Artificial Intelligence and Robotics Series) by Jan Maarten Schraagen English | July 15, 2024 | ISBN: 1032524308 | 386 pages | EPUB | 3.56 Mb Artificial Intelligence (AI) is widely used in society today. The (mis)use of biased data sets in machine learning applications is well‑known, resulting in discrimination and exclusion of citizens. Another example is the use of non‑transparent algorithms that can't explain themselves to users, resulting in the AI not being trusted and therefore not being used when it might be beneficial to use it. ![]() Free Download Representations of Children and Success in Asia: Dream Chasers by Shih-Wen Sue Chen and Sin Wen Lau English | 2023 | ISBN: 1032293802 | 277 Pages | True ePUB | 1.03 MB ![]() Free Download Representations of Children and Success in Asia: Dream Chasers by Shih-Wen Sue Chen and Sin Wen Lau English | 2023 | ISBN: 1032293802 | 277 Pages | True PDF | 16 MB ![]() Free Download Levi Thompson, "Reorienting Modernism in Arabic and Persian Poetry " English | ISBN: 1009164473 | 2022 | 280 pages | PDF | 1338 KB Re-orienting Modernism in Arabic and Persian Poetry is the first book to systematically study the parallel development of modernist poetry in Arabic and Persian. It presents a fresh line of comparative inquiry into minor literatures within the field of world literary studies. Focusing on Arabic-Persian literary exchanges allows readers to better understand the development of modernist poetry in both traditions and in turn challenge Europe's position at the center of literary modernism. The argument contributes to current scholarly efforts to globalize modernist studies by reading Arabic and Persian poetry comparatively within the context of the Cold War to establish the Middle East as a significant participant in wider modernist developments. To illuminate profound connections between Arabic and Persian modernist poetry in both form and content, the book takes up works from key poets including the Iraqis Badr Shakir al-Sayyab and Abd al-Wahhab al-Bayati and the Iranians Nima Yushij, Ahmad Shamlu, and Forough Farrokhzad. ![]() Free Download Ke Zhang, Amir AghaKouchak, "Remote Sensing of Water-Related Hazards" English | 2022 | ISBN: 1119159121 | PDF | pages: 269 | 75.9 mb Applications of remote sensing technology for monitoring and predicting water-related hazards ![]() Free Download Reimagining Organizational Change by Richard J.
