Saint Benedict's Wisdom Monastic Spirituality and the Life of the Church
Free Download Saint Benedict's Wisdom: Monastic Spirituality and the Life of the Church By Luigi Gioia OSB
2020 | 232 Pages | ISBN: 081468808X | EPUB | 1 MB
2021 Catholic Media Association Award first place award in spirituality - contemporary Monastic spirituality has much to offer Christians who live far beyond monastery walls. In Saint Benedict's WisdomLuigi Gioia, OSB, demonstrates that monastic spirituality is a gift for the whole Church. Because monastic vows are fundamentally a deep dive into one's baptismal commitments, monastic experience speaks to all the faithful who wish to do the same within different lifestyles. As an expression of divine wisdom, monasticism offers a way of deeply integrating spirituality with the rest of life, teaching us to seek holiness, not only in prayer, but also through work, sharing of food, sleep, and life in community.Written by one of the most insightful commentators on monastic life today, Saint Benedict's Wisdom shines the light of monasticism on many aspects of contemporary Christian living, including evangelization, leadership, suffering, authentic chastity, the experience of God, reform of structures, and the practice of theology. It will appeal to anyone seeking to live a more authentic Christian life in addition to vowed monastics, monastic oblates, and associates.Luigi Gioia, OSB, is a research associate at the Von Hügel Institute for Critical Catholic Inquiry at Cambridge University and a professor of systematic theology at the Pontifical University of Sant'Anselmo in Rome. In great demand as a retreat leader all over the world, he is the author several books, including Say It to God: In Search of Prayer (the Archbishop of Canterbury's Lent Book 2018) and Touched by God: The Way to Contemplative Prayer.

Saint Augustine and the Fall of the Soul Beyond O'Connell and His Critics
Free Download Saint Augustine and the Fall of the Soul: Beyond O'Connell and His Critics By Ronnie J. Rombs
2006 | 228 Pages | ISBN: 081321436X | PDF | 1 MB
Augustine's understanding of the origin of the soul and the nature of its fall looms as one of the most important and controversial questions among Augustinian scholars since Robert J. O'Connell first began publishing on the topic. O'Connell argued that Augustine embraced Descriptioninus's doctrine that the soul existed before the body and only fell into bodily life as the result of sin. Such a position, however, is fundamentally incompatible with Christian anthropology: bodily life is intrinsically corrupted; physical existence is regrettable. The supposition that the most influential Christian theologian after St. Paul maintained such a position generated sharp division between scholars who were convinced by O'Connell and those who were not. A scholarly consensus on the subject has not yet developed. provides first a critical examination of O'Connell's theses in a readable summary of his work that spanned over thirty years. Secondly, a diachronic study of Augustine's writings traces the development of his understanding of the soul's fall, mapping the limits of Descriptioninus's influence. The study recognizes the extent to which Augustine embraced Descriptioninus's ontology and anthropology and the point at which he abandoned Descriptioninus. The young Augustine was significantly influenced by Descriptioninus, and there is substantial evidence that he held a Descriptioninian doctrine of the soul's fall. But as the anthropological implications that follow from the Christian doctrine of creation ex nihilo became apparent to him, Augustine departed from Descriptioninus. Augustine ultimately took the soul's fall to be a moral lapse, retaining Descriptioninus's imagery vocabulary as a way of expressing a psychology of sin, not an ontological fall. Augustinian scholars and students in theology and patristics will find the text an invaluable resource on the topic.

Sai Baba And Me Together Through Lifetimes
Free Download Sai Baba And Me: Together Through Lifetimes By Renuka Alimchandani
2017 | 156 Pages | ISBN: 9382742670 | EPUB | 1 MB
This is the beginning and it will continue as life continues, even after one leaves the body. The journey described in Sai Baba and Me is an ideal example of what a Master does for a soul's existence here in this world, as well as in the spirit world. It is about the Master and his disciple travelling together, through the existence of the soul across several lifetimes. This is the beginning and it will continue as life continues, even after one leaves the body. It will give the reader glimpses of why this life is being lived, and what will happen after the soul leaves this body. Then the soul will plan and decide how, when, where, and in which body it will choose to be born again. And thus continue its onward journey in the spirit world. It will keep journeying until it reaches its desired goal - being in close proximity to its Creator. For the soul, that will be its ultimate liberation.

Sacrifice and the Body Biblical Anthropology and Christian Self–Understanding
Free Download Sacrifice and the Body: Biblical Anthropology and Christian Self-Understanding By John Dunnill
2016 | 277 Pages | ISBN: 1409418820 | EPUB | 1 MB
What is sacrifice? For many people today the word has negative overtones, suggesting loss, or death, or violence. But in religions, ancient and modern, the word is linked primarily to joyous feasting which puts people in touch with the deepest realities. How has that change of meaning come about? What effect does it have on the way we think about Christianity? How does it affect the way Christian believers think about themselves and God? John Dunnill's study focuses on sacrifice as a physical event uniting worshippers to deity. Bringing together insights from social anthropology, biblical studies and Trinitarian theology, Dunnill links to debates in sociology and cultural studies, as well as the study of liturgy. Through a positive view of sacrifice, Dunnill contributes to contemporary Christian debates on atonement and salvation.
