Power Electronics is the technology behind switching power supplies, power converters, power inverters, motor drives, and motor soft starters. The first high power electronic devices were mercury-arc valves. In modern systems the conversion is performed with semiconductor switching devices such as diodes, thyristors and transistors. In contrast to electronic systems concerned with transmission and processing of signals and data, in power electronics substantial amounts of electrical energy are processed. An AC/DC converter (rectifier) is the most typical power electronics device found in many consumer electronic devices, e.g. television sets, personal computers, battery chargers, etc. The power range is typically from tens of watts to several hundred watts. In industry a common application is the variable speed drive (VSD) that is used to control an induction motor. The power range of VSDs start from a few hundred watts and end at tens of megawatts. Power electronics started with the development of the mercury arc rectifier. Invented by Peter Cooper Hewitt in 1902, it was used to convert alternating current (AC) into direct current (DC). From the 1920s on, research continued on applying thyratrons and grid-controlled mercury arc valves to power transmission. Uno Lamm developed a mercury valve with grading electrodes making them suitable for high voltage direct current power transmission. In 1933 selenium rectifiers were invented. By the 1960s the improved switching speed of bipolar junction transistors had allowed for high frequency DC/DC converters. In 1976 power MOSFETs became commercially available. In 1982 the Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistor (IGBT) was introduced. This Text aims to introduce and explain the main concepts in Power Electronics, which include Power Semi-Conductor Devices, Phase-Controlled Converters, DC to DC Converter, Inverters and AC to AC Converters. It provides a basic knowledge of circuitry for the control and conversion of electrical power with high efficiency. These converters can change and regulate the voltage, current, or power; dc-dc converters, ac-dc rectifiers, dc-ac inverters, and ac-ac cycloconverters are in common use. Applications include electronic power supplies, aerospace and vehicular power systems, and renewable energy systems. ![]() Free Download Introduction to GIS Programming: A Practical Python Guide to Open Source Geospatial Tools English | 2026 | ISBN: 8286979451 | 553 Pages | PDF (True) | 79 MB Introduction to GIS Programming offers a comprehensive, hands-on introduction to the world of geospatial analysis using Python. It is the branch that aims to try the deep understanding of computational processes by effectively solving the problems with mathematical models, tools and techniques. This understanding is important for its applications, which span various computational models such as algorithms, compilers, and VLSI design to the creation of intelligent technology, cognitive psychology, and philosophy. Automata enables scientists to understand how machines compute functions and solve problems. ![]() Free Download Introduction to Computer Science and Technology English | 2021 | ISBN: 177407740X | 326 Pages | PDF (True) | 12 MB Information on computer science and technology is very variable. Different researches related to these two aspects have been carried out and presented in different books and reports. However, the information is dispersed and does not offer a comprehensive overview to the real association between computer science and technology. Therefore, this volume was written after doing a thorough scrutiny of different journals, articles, research, and a wide array of computer science and technology books. The main objective of preparing this volume is to offer the best information based on the field of computer science and technology. ![]() Free Download Introduction to Computational Biology: Maps, Sequences and Genomes English | 1995 | ISBN: 0412993910 | 390 Pages | EPUB (True) | 13 MB Biology is in the midst of a era yielding many significant discoveries and promising many more. Unique to this era is the exponential growth in the size of information-packed databases. Inspired by a pressing need to analyze that data, Introduction to Computational Biology explores a new area of expertise that emerged from this fertile field- the combination of biological and information sciences. This introduction describes the mathematical structure of biological data, especially from sequences and chromosomes. After a brief survey of molecular biology, it studies restriction maps of DNA, rough landmark maps of the underlying sequences, and clones and clone maps. It examines problems associated with reading DNA sequences and comparing sequences to finding common patterns. The author then considers that statistics of pattern counts in sequences, RNA secondary structure, and the inference of evolutionary history of related sequences. Introduction to Computational Biology exposes the reader to the fascinating structure of biological data and explains how to treat related combinatorial and statistical problems. Written to describe mathematical formulation and development, this book helps set the stage for even more, truly interdisciplinary work in biology. ![]() Free Download Introducing Hinduism, 3rd Edition by Hillary P.
