La ética, vista así, debe iniciarse en las escuelas de derecho o de jurisprudencia, ya que la ética y la deontología están en boga. Son la esencia de muchas de las pláticas de los profesionales serios, que, por cierto, no son tantos. Se hace una retrospección histórica de la Abogacía en diferentes etapas, comenzando con la antigüedad clásica en Grecia y en Roma, tomando en cuenta el Orden de los Abogados en la época imperial romana, sin olvidar la abogacía medieval y el ejercicio del derecho en la edad moderna. En este contexto histórico se recuerda la formación jurídica del Libertador Simón Bolívar y su visión de los abogados. En una pretensión comparativa se reseñan algunos laconismos de la Abogacía en Venezuela y en Ecuador a los fines de determinar la importancia de esta profesión en la sociedad andina, en la que la actualidad de los Códigos de Ética en el ejercicio de la profesión abogadil es efímera y estéril. Se ha querido exponer los diferentes decálogos de los abogados expuestos desde 1253 hasta la actualidad, con una exhaustiva revisión investigativa para presentarla a Ustedes de manera muy depurada y culminando con el Decálogo del Abogado de Bartolomé Gil Osuna (2013) el cual con ideas más frescas del ejercicio del Derecho en el siglo XXI se comparte con Ustedes, apreciados lectores, inspirado en la necesidad ineludible de actuar con ética, en cada una de nuestras actividades, que se desglosa con el atino que Ustedes merecen.En esta evolución progresiva de la Abogacía, llega al recuerdo el filósofo cordobés Séneca, que Agripina obligó a ir a Roma, para que educara a su hijo Nerón "la verdad ─dice─ está patente a la investigación de todos; pero ninguno la posee toda, antes bien queda mucho que descubrir de la misma a los venideros (patet omnibus veritas, nondum est occupata, multum ex illa etiam futuris relictum est)", es decir, nuestros hijos, sucesores, nuestros discípulos o alumnos. Porque llegará tiempo en que, a beneficio de repetidas y diligentes observaciones, se harán patentes ciertas verdades que hoy ignoramos: no basta una sola época para descubrir todas las verdades sobre la ética y la deontología jurídica en el abogado de hoy.Considero en esta investigación que nuestra época es calificada como tiempo diferente. Mundialmente el derecho ha cobrado una importancia como nunca antes se había conocido.
