Software Abstractions Logic, Language, and Analysis
Free Download Software Abstractions: Logic, Language, and Analysis By Daniel Jackson
2012 | 376 Pages | ISBN: 0262017156 | PDF | 4 MB
In Software Abstractions Daniel Jackson introduces an approach to software design that draws on traditional formal methods but exploits automated tools to find flaws as early as possible. This approach--which Jackson calls "lightweight formal methods" or "agile modeling"--takes from formal specification the idea of a precise and expressive notation based on a tiny core of simple and robust concepts but replaces conventional analysis based on theorem proving with a fully automated analysis that gives designers immediate feedback. Jackson has developed Alloy, a language that captures the essence of software abstractions simply and succinctly, using a minimal toolkit of mathematical notions. This revised edition updates the text, examples, and appendixes to be fully compatible with the latest version of Alloy (Alloy 4). The designer can use automated analysis not only to correct errors but also to make models that are more precise and elegant. This approach, Jackson says, can rescue designers from "the tarpit of implementation technologies" and return them to thinking deeply about underlying concepts. Software Abstractions introduces the key elements: a logic, which provides the building blocks of the language; a language, which adds a small amount of syntax to the logic for structuring descriptions; and an analysis, a form of constraint solving that offers both simulation (generating sample states and executions) and checking (finding counterexamples to claimed properties).

Socratic Virtue Making the Best of the Neither–Good–Nor–Bad
Free Download Socratic Virtue: Making the Best of the Neither-Good-Nor-Bad By Naomi Reshotko
2006 | 220 Pages | ISBN: 0521846188 | PDF | 2 MB
Socrates was not a moral philosopher. Instead he was a theorist who showed how human desire and human knowledge complement one another in the pursuit of human happiness. His theory allowed him to demonstrate that actions and objects have no value other than that which they derive from their employment by individuals who, inevitably, desire their own happiness and have the knowledge to use actions and objects as a means for its attainment. The result is a naturalised, practical, and demystified account of good and bad, and right and wrong. Professor Reshotko presents a freshly envisioned Socratic theory residing at the intersection of the philosophy of mind and ethics. It makes an important contribution to the study of the Platonic dialogues and will also interest all scholars of ethics and moral psychology.

Sociolinguistics A Very Short Introduction
Free Download John Edwards, "Sociolinguistics: A Very Short Introduction "
English | ISBN: 0199858616 | 2013 | 152 pages | AZW3 | 1119 KB
Sociolinguistics deals with the social life of language, language in its sociocultural context. It is a branch of linguistics that looks less at the shape or sound of words-morphology or phonology-and more at how our words and sentences are influenced by the society around us-for instance, how the accent or the dialect we use has been shaped by where we come from or which social class we belong to.

Sociocultural Otherness and Minority Justice A Study on China
Free Download Hanna H. Wei, "Sociocultural Otherness and Minority Justice: A Study on China "
English | ISBN: 9811697515 | 2022 | 286 pages | PDF | 6 MB
This book draws attention to the nonlegal, sociocultural aspects of justice for minorities in China. The primary objectives are threefold. The first is to present a tentative analysis of the lived realities of being 'the other' in China, with the aim of presenting a critical picture of the complex national context and identifying main concerns and key challenges. Six topics are covered - gender roles, health, class, intimacy, ethnicity and religion, and expression. The second objective is to explore the interaction between a wide range of factors and myriad systems that enable or hinder protection and justice for these groups, be they historical, political, social, or cultural, hoping to open up a rich domain of inquiry for those interested in to what extent and in what ways otherness may or may not survive in China. The third objective is to bring attention to new trends and developments, some are easily identifiable whereas others are less detectable, some are interrelated while others are relatively isolated, some are straightforward and others remain easily misinterpreted.

Socializing Metaphysics The Nature of Social Reality
Free Download Frederick F. Schmitt University of Illinois at, Gary Ebbs, Margaret Gilbert University of Connecticut, "Socializing Metaphysics: The Nature of Social Reality"
English | 2003 | pages: 400 | ISBN: 0742514293, 0742514285 | EPUB | 1,2 mb
Human life is conducted within a network of social relations, social groups, and societies. Grasping the implications of that fact starts with understanding social metaphysics. Social metaphysics provides a foundation for social theory, as well as for social epistemology, philosophy of language, philosophy of mind, action theory, ethics, and political philosophy. This volume will interest anyone concerned with mind, action, or the foundations of social theory. Socializing Metaphysics supplies diverse answers, from a broad array of voices, to the basic questions of social metaphysics. What is it for human beings to stand in social relations or form social groups? Do these relations and groups bring about something above and beyond the individuals involved? Is there any sense to the notion of a human being apart from social relations? How can an individual achieve autonomy within a society? In what sense are human kinds like race and gender socially constructed? The answers are found within.
