English | 2010 | pages: 446 | ISBN: 3642108229, 3642445292 | PDF | 19,1 mb
Research and development (R&D) as well as innovation are the drivers of change and the key determinants of growth in many industry and service sectors. In spite of the financial turmoil and restructuring of the world economy after 2008, investment in R&D is expected to grow further. Innovation competence will continue to be a major success factor for internationally operating companies.

Innovation and Institutional Embeddedness of Multinational Companies
Free Download Innovation and Institutional Embeddedness of Multinational Companies By Martin Heidenreich, Martin Heidenreich
2012 | 384 Pages | ISBN: 0857934325 | PDF | 4 MB
Multinational companies are crucial actors in a global knowledge-based economy, combining the advantages of global and locally coordinated production and innovation strategies with specific regional and national factors. This book questions how MNCs can best exploit institutionally embedded knowledge, explores the utilization of external institutionally embedded knowledge in corporate innovation processes, and addresses the challenges of embeddedness. The expert contributors draw on managerial, economic, geographic and sociological perspectives to explore the essential roles of regional and national knowledge infrastructures and the cultural and political environment of MNCs. They build upon, update, and extend the discussion on the regional and national embeddedness of MNCs with new country case studies and comparative analyses, focusing on the relationship between innovation in companies and regional studies. Significantly, the book also establishes a link between two important debates that have hitherto been largely disconnected: regional studies and international business studies separately address issues that fall within the scope of the book, but do not provide an integrated analysis of the embeddedness of MNCs. This path-breaking book goes some way to fill this gap in the literature and as such, will prove invaluable to academics, R&D managers, regional policy makers and students with an interest in international business, business economics, regional studies and organization studies. Innovation Governance in an Open Economy Shaping Regional Nodes in a Globalized World
Free Download Innovation Governance in an Open Economy: Shaping Regional Nodes in a Globalized World By Annika Rickne, Staffan Laestadius, Henry Etzkowitz
2012 | 324 Pages | ISBN: 0415504937 | PDF | 4 MB
In an increasingly globalised world, paradoxically regional innovation clusters have moved to the forefront of attention as a strategy for economic and social development. Transcending international success cases, like Silicon Valley and Route 128, as sources of lessons, successful high tech clusters in niche areas have had a significant impact on peripheral regions. Are these successful innovation clusters born or made? If they are subject to planning and direction, what is the shape that it takes: top down, bottom up or lateral?

Inner Speech – L2 Thinking Words in a Second Language
Free Download Inner Speech - L2: Thinking Words in a Second Language By María C.M. de Guerrero (auth.)
2005 | 252 Pages | ISBN: 0387245774 | PDF | 17 MB
The purpose of this book is to explore "inner speech" and its connections to second language (L2) learning. Inner speech, or silent self-directed speaking, enables the faculty to "think" words and is the main instrument for verbal thought. Inner speech originates in first language (L1) social discourse and develops in childhood through a process of internalization. In this book it is postulated that, given certain conditions of L2 learning, it is possible to develop L2 inner speech as a result of the interiorization of L2 social speech. Inner speech has been quite extensively investigated from an L1 perspective. The L2 acquisition field, however, has been slow in acknowledging the importance of inner speech in learning another language. Although within the past decade there have been some notable efforts to explore the topic from an L2 point of view, these efforts have remained in the form of isolated articles and short sections in larger volumes. This book reviews the extant literature on L1-L2 inner speech in its attempt to offer a coherent and comprehensive account of the phenomenon. The book draws mainly from Vygotskyan sociocultural theory for insights into the nature of L2 inner speech and the processes that engender it and characterize its development. The pedagogical implications of recognizing the crucial role inner speech plays in L2 learning are also addressed. Inner Speech - L2 comprises a discussion of the historical and theoretical foundations of the concept of inner speech; a review of studies related to L1 and L2 inner speech and its methodology of research; an interpretive account of the origin, nature, and development of L2 inner speech from a sociocultural theory point of view; and various pedagogical implications and suggestions for further research.

Informed Dialogue Using Research to Shape Education Policy Around the World
Free Download Informed Dialogue: Using Research to Shape Education Policy Around the World By Noel McGinn, Fernando Reimers
1997 | 224 Pages | ISBN: 0275954420 | PDF | 1 MB
The authors of this book explain how decisions about education and educational policymaking can be informed by research-based knowledge. They develop a framework to organize three approaches, which are: policy dialogue as persuasion, policy dialogue as negotiation, and policy dialogue as participation and organizational learning. The book includes a nine-stage model for how best to employ research to influence this type of learning using a participatory approach. A current review of literature in research utilization in education is also discussed.

Information and Control in Networks
Free Download Information and Control in Networks By Massimo Franceschetti, Paolo Minero (auth.), Giacomo Como, Bo Bernhardsson, Anders Rantzer (eds.)
2014 | 306 Pages | ISBN: 3319021494 | PDF | 5 MB
Information and Control in Networks demonstrates the way in which system dynamics and information flows intertwine as they evolve, and the central role played by information in the control of complex networked systems. It is a milestone on the road to that convergence from traditionally independent development of control theory and information theory which has emerged strongly in the last fifteen years, and is now a very active research field. In addition to efforts in control and information theory, the text is witness to strong research in such diverse fields as computer science, mathematics, and statistics. Aspects that are given specialist treatment include:· data-rate theorems;· computation and control over communication networks;· decentralized stochastic control;· Gaussian networks and Gaussian-Markov random fields; and· routability in information networks.Information and Control in Networks collects contributions from world-leading researchers in the area who came together for the Lund Center for Control of Complex Engineering Systems Workshop in Information and Control in Networks from 17th-19th October 2012; the workshop being the centrepiece of a five-week-long focus period on the same theme. A source of exciting cross-fertilization and new ideas for extensive future research, this volume will be of great interest to any researcher or graduate student interested in the interaction of control and information theory.
