Essays on Husserl's Logic and Philosophy of Mathematics
Free Download Essays on Husserl's Logic and Philosophy of Mathematics by Stefania Centrone
English | PDF (True) | 2017 | 541 Pages | ISBN : 9402411305 | 5.2 MB
Essays on Husserl's Logic and Philosophy of Mathematics sets out to fill up a lacuna in the present research on Husserl by presenting a precise account of Husserl's work in the field of logic, of the philosophy of logic and of the philosophy of mathematics. The aim is to provide an in-depth reconstruction and analysis of the discussion between Husserl and his most important interlocutors, and to clarify pivotal ideas of Husserl's by considering their reception and elaboration by some of his disciples and followers, such as Oskar Becker and Jacob Klein, as well as their influence on some of the most significant logicians and mathematicians of the past century, such as Luitzen E. J. Brouwer, Rudolf Carnap, Kurt Gödel and Hermann Weyl. Most of the papers consider Husserl and another scholar - e.g. Leibniz, Kant, Bolzano, Brentano, Cantor, Frege - and trace out and contextualize lines of influence, points of contact, and points of disagreement. Each essay is written by an expert of the field, and the volume includes contributions both from the analytical tradition and from the phenomenological one.

Essays in Constructive Mathematics
Free Download Essays in Constructive Mathematics by Harold M. Edwards
English | PDF | 2005 | 228 Pages | ISBN : 1489990186 | 11.9 MB
He [Kronecker] was, in fact, attempting to describe and to initiate a new branch of mathematics, which would contain both number theory and alge braic geometry as special cases.-Andre Weil [62] This book is about mathematics, not the history or philosophy of mathemat ics. Still, history and philosophy were prominent among my motives for writing it, and historical and philosophical issues will be major factors in determining whether it wins acceptance. Most mathematicians prefer constructive methods. Given two proofs of the same statement, one constructive and the other not, most will prefer the constructive proof. The real philosophical disagreement over the role of con structions in mathematics is between those-the majority-who believe that to exclude from mathematics all statements that cannot be proved construc tively would omit far too much, and those of us who believe, on the contrary, that the most interesting parts of mathematics can be dealt with construc tively, and that the greater rigor and precision of mathematics done in that way adds immensely to its value.

Eruptions on the Sun
Free Download Eruptions on the Sun by Boris Filippov
English | PDF EPUB (True) | 2024 | 400 Pages | ISBN : 3031581768 | 111.5 MB
This book is devoted to eruptive phenomena on the Sun, the most dangerous sources of space weather disturbances. It discusses the latest achievements in this field, described in the scientific literature and obtained by the author himself. The initial chapters of the book give a brief description of the role of the Sun in the life and history of mankind, a general description of the solar interior and the atmosphere of the Sun, the causes and drivers of solar activity and its impact on the Earth's environment and human life. The book provides a detailed description of eruptive phenomena on the Sun, a review of observations of solar activity and theoretical ideas about the mechanisms and causes of a sudden release of energy in the solar atmosphere.

Epigenetics in Biological Communication
Free Download Epigenetics in Biological Communication by Guenther Witzany
English | PDF EPUB (True) | 2024 | 441 Pages | ISBN : 3031592859 | 35.4 MB
Every cell, tissue, organ and organism is competent to use signs to exchange information reaching common coordinations and organisations of both single cell and group behavior. These sign-mediated interactions we term biological communication. The regulatory system that works in development, morphology, cell fate and identity, physiology, genetic instructions, immunity, memory/learning, physical and mental disease depends on epigenetic marks. The communication of cells, persistent viruses and their defectives such as mobile genetic elements and RNA networks ensures both the transport of regulatory instructions and the reprogramming of these instructions. But how are the different states of the epigenome orchestrated? The epigenetic pathways respond to various signaling cues such as DNA methylation, histone variants, histone modifications, chromatin structure, nucleosome remodeling, and epigenetic interactions. Epigenetic signals are responsible for the establishment, maintenance and reversal of transcriptional states that are fundamental for the cell's ability to memorize past events, such as changes in the external environment, socio-sphere or developmental cues. External signals trigger changes in the epigenome, allowing cells to respond dynamically. Internal signals direct activities that are necessary for body maintenance, and repairing damaged tissues and organs. With the emergence of epigenetic memory, organisms can fix historical and context dependent impressive experiences. Evolution from now on learnt to learn. Learning means organisms can avoid reproduction of always the same. This is key to adaptation. However, inheritance of acquired characteristics is only one of the many examples of the explanatory power of epigenetics. Behavioral epigenetics demonstrates the way in which environmental and social experiences produce individual differences in behaviour, cognition, personality, and mental health. This book assembles experts to outline the various motifs of all kinds of epigenetic regulation of cells throughout their lives.
