A Preferred Blur Reflections, Inspections, and Travel in All Directions
Free Download Henry Rollins, "A Preferred Blur: Reflections, Inspections, and Travel in All Directions"
English | 2009 | pages: 381 | ISBN: 1880985810 | EPUB | 1,8 mb
2007 was a very busy year for Henry Rollins. He traveled to Iran, Syria, Lebanon, and Pakistan, where he was staying when Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto was assassinated. While traveling, Rollins performed numerous spoken word shows and worked on films, his IFC television show, and Harmony in My Head, his popular weekly radio show. In short, a quintessentially Rollins-ian year: sleepless, nonstop, and highly productive. A Preferred Blur contains stories written in the form of journal entries from Rollins' travels throughout the year. As in his other travel-related books and journals, Rollins - Detail magazine's 1994 Man of the Year - writes not only about his own life and work, but of music, current affairs, and the world around him with humor, insight, and brutal honesty.

English | ISBN: 1433827166 | 2017 | 263 pages | EPUB | 3 MB
Research has consistently demonstrated the role of the therapeutic alliance in effective psychotherapy. This book is a much-needed practical guide to cultivating therapeutic presence. The specific techniques described will help clinicians engage more deeply with their clients on multiple levels - physical, emotional, cognitive, spiritual, and relational. It will also help clinicians and their clients deepen their relationship into a healing encounter.

A Post–Neoliberal Era in Latin America Revisiting cultural paradigms
Free Download Daniel Nehring, "A Post-Neoliberal Era in Latin America?: Revisiting cultural paradigms"
English | ISBN: 1529200997 | 2019 | 270 pages | PDF | 5 MB
Available Open Access under CC-BY-NC licence. Ongoing conflicts between neoliberal and post-neoliberal politics have resulted in growing social instability in Latin America. This book explores the cultural dynamics of neoliberalism and anti-neoliberal resistance in Latin America as a complex set of interrelated cultural forms, examining the ways in which neoliberalism has transformed public discourses of self and social relationships, popular cultures and modes of everyday experience. Contributors from an international range of different disciplinary perspectives look at how Latin Americans construct subjectivities, build communities and make meaning in their everyday lives in order to analyse the discourses and cultural practices through which a societal consensus for the pursuit of neoliberal politics may be established, defended and contested.

A Passion for Trees The Legacy Of John Evelyn
Free Download A Passion for Trees: The Legacy Of John Evelyn by Maggie Campbell-Culver
English | 5 Jun. 2006 | ISBN: 1903919479 | True EPUB | 288 pages | 82.7 MB
Given the extent of his influence on 17th-century life, and his lasting impact on the British landscape it is remarkable that no book has been written before about John Evelyn. He was a longstanding friend of Samuel Pepys (who wrote of him, ' A most excellent person he is, and must be allowed a little for conceitedness; but he may well be so, being a man so much above others.'), a founder-member of the Royal Society and a prolific writer and diarist. He was an early advocate of the garden city but his most important work was Sylva: a Discourse of Forest Trees. Sylva was presented to the Royal Society to promote the planting of timber trees 'for the supply of the Navy, the employment and advantage of the poor as well as the ornamenting of the nation.' He was responsible for the first great raft of tree-planting and for a great influx of tree introductions to Britain.

A Naval History of the Peloponnesian War Ships, Men and Money in the War at Sea, 431–404 BC
Free Download A Naval History of the Peloponnesian War: Ships, Men and Money in the War at Sea, 431-404 BC by Marc G de Santis
English | January 4, 2018 | ISBN: 1473861586 | 280 pages | PDF | 2.37 Mb
Naval power played a vital role in the Peloponnesian War. The conflict pitted Athens against a powerful coalition including the preeminent land power of the day, Sparta. Only Athens' superior fleet, her 'wooden walls', by protecting her vital supply routes allowed her to survive. It also allowed the strategic freedom of movement to strike back where she chose, most famously at Sphacteria, where a Spartan force was cut off and forced to surrender.

A Myth Become Reality. History and Development of the Miao Written Language
Free Download A Myth Become Reality. History and Development of the Miao Written Language By Joakim Enwall
1995 | 249 Pages | ISBN: 9171534237 | PDF | 46 MB
This book, volume two of the study "A Myth Become Reality - History and Development of the Miao Written Language", contains historical descriptions and graphonomic analyses of the Miao writing systems devised in China after 1949 and a discussion about the mythologization of one of the missionary writing systems for Miao - the Pollard script. The first volume contains an introduction and parts I and II out of four parts. In the introduction the author discusses the notion 'Miao', the Miao dialects and presents their phonological systems. Part I deals with the Miao myth about a prehistoric writing system and part II is concerned with the efforts of various missionaries, mainly British and American, to devise writing systems for Miao. The present volume deals with the Miao writing systems devised within the language programs sponsored by the Chinese state, particularly in the 1950s and how these writing systems have subsequendy been propagated. There are substantial differences in the success of propagating Miao writing in different Miao groups and the reasons for this are to be sought both in the reinterpretation of the writing systems in accordance with the myth about the loss of writing, and in the differences in bilingual competence, economic development etc. In the last part the author describes how the Pollard script has been reinterpreted within the framework of the Miao myth about a lost writing system, and how it has subsequently also been integrated into the state efforts to create a Miao writing which represents the Miao language both on a phonemic level and on an etymological level, especially regarding the tone marking system. Finally, the author discusses the importance of dissimilarity in connection with the strikingly different degrees of success for the various writing systems.
