Stephen Webb, "All the Wonder that Would Be: Exploring Past Notions of the Future "
English | ISBN: 3319517589 | 2017 | 357 pages | MOBI | 4 MB
It has been argued that science fiction (SF) gives a kind of weather forecast - not the telling of a fortune but rather the rough feeling of what the future might be like. The intention in this book is to consider some of these bygone forecasts made by SF and to use this as a prism through which to view current developments in science and technology.

Gaia Gianni, "All in the Family: Childhood and Fictive Kinship in Roman Society "
English | ISBN: 0472133616 | 2025 | 302 pages | EPUB | 2 MB
Gaia Gianni's All in the Family explores how children shaped the development of pseudo-familial bonds, or fictive kinship, in Roman society during the early imperial period. Previous scholarship on the Roman family has primarily emphasized the patriarchal and nuclear structure of the Roman family, with children often represented as passive actors in a vacuum. Believing this to be an oversimplification of how the Roman family functioned, Gianni in her study focuses on the ways in which Roman families raised children and formed long-term relationships with individuals outside of the nuclear family, such as friends, neighbors, nurses, and caretakers, who gradually became full-fledged members of the family unit. Through a wide variety of literary works, legal documents, and funerary epitaphs for children set up by their families and caregivers, Gianni borrows from modern sociological and anthropological theories to argue that children acted as catalysts or connecting nodes in the creation of fictive kinship with individuals who were not part of the biologically determined family. In addition to illuminating the roles and experiences of these figures,

Amish Raj Mulmi, "All Roads Lead North: China, Nepal and the Contest for the Himalayas"
English | ISBN: 1787385396 | 2022 | 328 pages | MOBI | 947 KB
During the June 2020 territorial dispute over Kalapani, India blamed tensions on a newly assertive Nepal's deepening relations with China. But beyond the accusations and grandstanding, this reflects a new reality: the power equations in South Asia have been redrawn, to make space for China. Nepal did not turn northwards overnight. Its ties with China have deep historical roots built on Buddhism, dating to the early first millennium. While India's unofficial 2015 blockade provided momentum to the rift with Delhi, Nepal has long wanted deeper ties with Beijing, to counteract India's oppressive intimacy. With China's growing South Asian and global ambitions, Nepal now has a new primary bilateral partner-and Nepalis are forging a path towards modernity with its help, both in the remote borderlands and in the cities. All Roads Lead North offers a long view of Nepal's foreign relations, today underpinned by China's world-power status. Sharing never- before-told stories about Tibetan guerrilla fighters, failed coup leaders and trans- Himalayan traders, Nepal analyst Amish Raj Mulmi examines the histories binding mountain communities together across the Sino-Nepali border. Part history, part journalistic account, Mulmi's is a complex, compelling and rigorously researched study of a small country caught between two neighbourhood giants.

Algorithms in Combinatorial Geometry (Monographs in Theoretical Computer Science.) by Herbert Edelsbrunner
English | July 31, 1987 | ISBN: 9783540137221 | 438 pages | PDF | 18 Mb
Computational geometry as an area of research in its own right emerged in the early seventies of this century. Right from the beginning, it was obvious that strong connections of various kinds exist to questions studied in the considerably older field of combinatorial geometry. For example, the combinatorial structure of a geometric problem usually decides which algorithmic method solves the problem most efficiently. Furthermore, the analysis of an algorithm often requires a great deal of combinatorial knowledge. As it turns out, however, the connection between the two research areas commonly referred to as computa tional geometry and combinatorial geometry is not as lop-sided as it appears. Indeed, the interest in computational issues in geometry gives a new and con structive direction to the combinatorial study of geometry. It is the intention of this book to demonstrate that computational and com binatorial investigations in geometry are doomed to profit from each other. To reach this goal, I designed this book to consist of three parts, acorn binatorial part, a computational part, and one that presents applications of the results of the first two parts. The choice of the topics covered in this book was guided by my attempt to describe the most fundamental algorithms in computational geometry that have an interesting combinatorial structure. In this early stage geometric transforms played an important role as they reveal connections between seemingly unrelated problems and thus help to structure the field.

Algorithmen und Datenstrukturen für Dummies, 2nd Edition
German | 2026 | ISBN: 3527724400 | 655 pages | True EPUB | 40.31 MB

Stanley, "Algebraic Combinatorics "
English | ISBN: 3319771728 | 2018 | 280 pages | AZW3 | 793 KB
Written by one of the foremost experts in the field, Algebraic Combinatorics is a unique undergraduate textbook that will prepare the next generation of pure and applied mathematicians. The combination of the author's extensive knowledge of combinatorics and classical and practical tools from algebra will inspire motivated students to delve deeply into the fascinating interplay between algebra and combinatorics. Readers will be able to apply their newfound understanding to mathematical, engineering, and business models. Prerequisites include a basic knowledge of linear algebra over a field, existence of finite fields, and rudiments of group theory. The topics in each chapter build on one another and include extensive problem sets as well as hints to selected exercises. Key topics include walks on graphs, cubes and the Radon transform, the Matrix-Tree Theorem, de Bruijn sequences, the Erdős-Moser conjecture, electrical networks, the Sperner property, shellability of simplicialcomplexes and face rings. There are also three appendices on purely enumerative aspects of combinatorics related to the chapter material: the RSK algorithm, plane partitions, and the enumeration of labeled trees.

Aldous Huxley and the Enemies of Freedom (Global Political Thinkers) by Uwe Rasch
English | January 3, 2026 | ISBN: 303157608X | 359 pages | True ePUB, PDF | 9.40 Mb
This is the first book to cover the evolution and scope of Aldous Huxley's socio-political ideas in a concise and highly accessible manner, both for political theorists and interested students from various disciplines. From his social journalism in the early 1930s, through his notoriously famous novel Brave New World, his involvement with the Peace Pledge Union in the mid-30s, his pivotal socio-anthropological study Ends and Means in 1937, his post-war essays, the black dystopia Ape and Essence, his involvement with Eastern philosophy and Krishnamurti, his lecture circuits in the 1950s (Santa Barbara, MIT, etc.) to his final novel, Island (1962), the counter-piece to Brave New World, the author explores how Huxley investigates the benefits and risks of democracy, anarchism, decentralisation, forms of authoritarianism, human engineering (education), the ideological pitfalls of the grand narratives of the early 20th century, as well as the anthropological dimensions underpinning social ideals and their means of realisation.
