Insbesondere wird die Veranschaulichung von dynamischen Vorgängen und die Visualisierung von abstrakten Sachverhalten begünstigt. Die vorliegende Dissertation greift diese technologischen Potentiale auf und definiert die "Offene Lernumgebung", in der ein Lernender im Unterricht, als Unterrichtsergänzung oder autodidaktisch Wissen erwirbt und darüber hinaus den Computer als Werkzeug für den gezielten Umgang mit generierten Inhalten oder archiviertem Wissen nutzt. In der offenen Lernumgebung findet er Lernwerkzeuge (Cognitive Tools) und Informationsobjekte, die individuelles und interaktives Handeln zur Erreichung von Lernzielen fördern. Innovativ an dieser Arbeit ist insbesondere die ModelIierung der hierzu erforderlichen Teledienste unter Berücksichtigung des ISO-Standards "Open Distributed Processing" (OSI-ODP, ITU-X.900). Aktuelle Aktivitäten bezüglich virtueller universitärer Lemräume profitieren bereits deutlich von den in dieser Dissertation erarbeiteten Konzepten und daraus erarbeiteten Telediensten. Die entstehende sog. "Virtuelle Universität" wird das herkömmliche Lemangebot um Lernforrnen ergänzen, die der Informationsgesellschaft angemessen sind.
