RF ENGINEERING Principles, Circuits, and Systems From Transmission Lines to Wireless Transceivers

RF ENGINEERING: Principles, Circuits, and Systems From Transmission Lines to Wireless Transceivers
English | October 4, 2026 | ASIN: B0HLX13R12 | 277 pages | Epub | 6.05 MB
Every wireless device that surrounds us, from the phone in a pocket to the radar in a car bumper and the satellite link that carries a television channel, depends on a body of knowledge that engineers call radio-frequency (RF) engineering. At these frequencies the comfortable rules of low-frequency circuit theory begin to fail: a length of copper is no longer a simple wire, a capacitor becomes an inductor above its self-resonant frequency, and the layout of a printed circuit board becomes as important as the schematic drawn on it. This book was written to guide the reader through that transition in a way that is rigorous, practical, and, I hope, enjoyable. The text grew out of many years of teaching RF and microwave courses to undergraduate and postgraduate students, and of supervising laboratory projects in which students designed, built, and measured real circuits. The recurring lesson from that experience is that RF engineering is learned best when theory, design procedure, simulation, and measurement are kept side by side. Accordingly, each chapter develops the physical ideas first, derives the essential equations carefully, and then converts the equations into step-by-step design methods that are illustrated with fully worked numerical examples. The seventeen chapters follow a natural path. Chapters 1 to 3 build the foundations: the RF spectrum, the decibel, skin effect, transmission-line theory, and the Smith chart. Chapters 4 to 6 treat impedance matching, network parameters and scattering parameters, and the planar transmission lines and waveguides on which practical circuits are built. Chapters 7 to 9 cover passive components, resonators, power dividers, couplers, and filters. Chapters 10 to 13 move to active circuits: small-signal amplifiers and stability, noise and low-noise amplifiers, power amplifiers and nonlinearity, and finally mixers, oscillators, and frequency synthesizers. Chapters 14 and 15 widen the view to antennas, radio propagation, transceiver architectures, link budgets, and RF measurement techniques. Chapter 16 turns to the practical craft of RF hardware: circuit-board stack-ups, layout parasitics, decoupling, shielding, electromagnetic compatibility, and bring-up, and Chapter 17 applies the ideas of the whole book to radar and RF sensing systems, from the radar range equation to 77 GHz FMCW automotive radar. Four appendices collect useful constants and formulas, suggest further reading, provide a compact Python toolbox that implements the principal design equations of the book, and review the mathematical tools used throughout.Several features have been included to make the book useful both in the classroom and on the bench. Learning objectives open every chapter, and key-point boxes highlight ideas that are easy to forget. Worked examples show complete numerical solutions with realistic component values. Short Python programs demonstrate how the design equations are implemented in code, so that the reader can experiment with parameters and see the consequences immediately. Each chapter ends with a summary, a hands-on design project, and a set of problems ranging from routine exercises to open-ended design tasks. The reader is assumed to be familiar with basic circuit analysis, complex numbers, phasors, and elementary electromagnetics. No prior exposure to RF design is required. Mathematical developments are kept as transparent as possible; whenever a result is quoted rather than derived, the reason and the conditions of validity are stated.

RETRIEVAL-AUGMENTED GENERATION RAG, Vector Databases and Knowledge-Driven AI Foundations, Architectures, Evaluation

RETRIEVAL-AUGMENTED GENERATION: RAG, Vector Databases and Knowledge-Driven AI : Foundations, Architectures, Evaluation and Production Systems for Grounded Language Models
English | September 21, 2026 | ASIN: B0HKJCJ8YJ | 327 pages | Epub | 5.40 MB
In the space of a few years, large language models moved from laboratory curiosities to instruments that draft our contracts, summarise our clinical notes and answer our customers. Yet anyone who has deployed such a model in a serious setting has met the same wall: the model is articulate about everything and accountable for nothing. It will describe a refund policy that does not exist, cite a statute that was never enacted, and do so in prose of impeccable confidence. The model is not lying; it has no notion of a fact to lie about. It has learned a probability distribution over text, and a probability distribution has no bibliography.Retrieval-augmented generation is the engineering answer to that predicament. Instead of asking a network to remember the world inside its weights, we let it look things up. A retriever finds evidence, a generator reasons over that evidence, and the answer arrives with a trail back to its sources. The idea is simple enough to state in one sentence and deep enough to occupy an entire research literature, because everything interesting lies in the details: how text is cut into passages, how meaning is turned into geometry, how a billion vectors are searched in milliseconds, how conflicting evidence is reconciled, and how we know whether any of it worked. This book is my attempt to set those details down in one place, in the order in which a reader actually needs them.Who this book is forThe book is written for three audiences that I have taught and worked with, and it tries to serve all three without diluting any of them.• Senior undergraduate and postgraduate students in computer science, data science and information retrieval who need a rigorous course text rather than a collection of blog posts. Each chapter ends with a summary and graded exercises suitable for coursework.• Practising engineers and architects who must ship a retrieval system that is fast, cheap, auditable and secure, and who need the reasoning behind the defaults, not only the defaults.• Researchers and technical managers who want a map of the field: what is settled, what is contested, and where the open problems are.The mathematical prerequisites are modest and mostly confined to linear algebra and elementary probability; Appendix A collects everything the main text assumes. The programming examples are in Python, which is where the ecosystem lives, but the ideas are language-agnostic.How this book is organisedPart I builds the foundations: why parametric memory fails, how text becomes vectors, what an embedding space really is, how vector databases store and index those vectors, and the algorithms that make approximate nearest-neighbour search tractable. Part II constructs a production pipeline end to end: ingestion, parsing, chunking, indexing, hybrid retrieval, query transformation, re-ranking, context assembly and grounded generation. Part III treats the advanced systems that define the current frontier: self-correcting and agentic architectures, knowledge graphs, multimodal and long-context retrieval, evaluation, optimisation and security. Part IV puts everything to work through four complete, buildable projects and a set of deployment case studies.Chapters are meant to be read in sequence the first time and consulted out of order thereafter. Cross-references are given by section number so that the book remains usable as a reference.

RASPBERRY PI EDGE AI PROJECTS Build Intelligent Cameras, Voice Assistants, IoT Devices and Offline AI Systems

RASPBERRY PI EDGE AI PROJECTS : Build Intelligent Cameras, Voice Assistants, IoT Devices and Offline AI Systems with Raspberry Pi 5
English | October 10, 2026 | ASIN: B0HMK1673Z | 417 pages | Epub | 649.26 KB
Have you ever built a Raspberry Pi AI project that worked perfectly on the bench, only to become slow, unstable, or difficult to maintain once you added a camera, sensors, networking, and continuous inference?Do you want to run useful AI locally on your Raspberry Pi 5 without sending every image, recording, or sensor reading to the cloud? Or can you follow Raspberry Pi tutorials yet still feel unsure how to turn separate examples into one reliable intelligent device?Raspberry Pi Edge AI Projects is designed for that exact transition: from getting an AI demonstration to engineering a complete Edge AI system that can sense, analyze, decide, and respond.Rather than treating AI, Python, Linux, hardware, and networking as separate topics, this book shows how they work together in practical systems. You will learn to deploy machine-learning models locally, build efficient computer-vision pipelines, connect cameras and microphones, integrate sensors and actuators, and design devices that can continue operating when Internet connectivity disappears. You will work toward systems such as intelligent cameras, AI security devices, offline speech recognition, local voice assistants, appropriately sized language-model applications, MQTT-connected IoT devices, multi-sensor monitors, AI-powered robots, local APIs, browser dashboards, and cloud-connected systems designed to remain useful offline. But building the system is only part of the challenge. An accurate model that consumes too much CPU is not a successful real-time application. A voice assistant that stops working without the Internet is not genuinely offline. A security camera that crashes after several hours is not reliable. And when something fails, knowing that "the project doesn't work" is very different from knowing which layer failed, why it failed, how to verify the diagnosis, and what to change. That engineering mindset is central to this book. You will learn how to reason about latency, throughput, memory, thermal behavior, storage, power, model accuracy, quantization, inference runtimes, hardware acceleration, networking, security, monitoring, recovery, and long-term maintenance—the practical constraints that determine whether a Raspberry Pi AI project remains useful beyond the initial demonstration. The progression takes you from Edge AI architecture and Raspberry Pi 5 preparation through model deployment and optimization, real-time vision, intelligent cameras, AI acceleration, speech recognition, local voice assistants, language models, sensors, MQTT, IoT, robotics, APIs, dashboards, containers, testing, security, monitoring, updates, and recovery. For makers, it provides a structured path into meaningful AI projects without requiring professional machine-learning experience. For intermediate Raspberry Pi users, it addresses the gap between connecting components and engineering the complete system. For Python, IoT, and aspiring Edge AI developers, it develops the practical skills needed to deploy and maintain intelligent devices at the edge.Getting a model to run is not the same as engineering an AI system. This book helps bridge that gap.If you are ready to move beyond isolated Raspberry Pi examples and build local, connected, resilient, and genuinely useful Edge AI devices, start building with Raspberry Pi 5—and learn how to make your systems work when real conditions begin to matter.

Queen Victoria's Colonial Troops, 1837-1901 Organization, Uniforms and Equipment

Queen Victoria's Colonial Troops, 1837-1901: Organization, Uniforms and Equipment
English | March 31, 2026 | ISBN: 103610334X | 240 pages | EPUB (True) | 100.16 MB
"I'm not sure how many of these in-depth looks at the Organization, Uniforms & Equipment of various armies that Esposito has written, but the unit examinations remain the same high quality in this volume... the information within is golden." - Historical Miniatures Gaming SocietyQueen Victoria famously presided over an empire upon which the sun never set. Extending, defending and policing Britain's global territories required the British Army to fight a bewildering array of foes, in equally varied terrain and climates. From the subarctic mountains of Canada to the Sahara Desert and the South African veldt, from the jungles of West Africa and central India to China, the British forces flew the flag. The task was only made possible by the recruitment of troops from throughout the colonies, some of which then served far from home (such as the Australians used in the Boer Wars). Colonial troops not only boosted the numbers available to the Empire's forces but their local knowledge of climate and terrain, as well as their differing fighting styles, offered vital variety and flexibility. This allowed the 'British' armies to adapt to the wide range of enemies and environments encountered.Gabriele Esposito offers an excellent overview of the troops raised from every corner of the British Empire, discussing their organization, weapons, uniform and equipment as well as how and where they were employed. The informative text is lavishly illustrated with colour artworks.

Quantum Distortion Gravity A Complete One-Loop Analysis of the Minimal Truncation - Second Edition, Revised and Corrected

Quantum Distortion Gravity: A Complete One-Loop Analysis of the Minimal Truncation - Second Edition, Revised and Corrected
English | October 9, 2026 | ASIN: B0HMGC8SJR | 285 pages | Epub | 4.56 MB
Quantum Distortion Gravity (QDG) is a metric-affine framework in which the connection is split into the Levi-Civita part and a distortion tensor, and Weyl symmetry is gauged. This monograph develops the theory from its classical foundations to a one-loop renormalization-group analysis.Part I reviews the functional renormalization group, metric-affine geometry, Weyl symmetry and the heat-kernel method. Part II builds the classical theory: the irreducible decomposition of the distortion, a no-go theorem for bare invariants, the Weyl-invariant action and its infrared limit. Part III treats the quantization: constraint analysis, BRST-BV quantization, the Weyl anomaly and the anomaly-induced action. Part IV derives the flow of the Einstein-Hilbert sector from the Wetterich equation, adds minimally coupled matter, and solves the non-Gaussian fixed point in closed form. It tests the existence of the fixed point against nine regulators and states how it depends on the matter content. Parts V and VI cover advanced topics (heat kernel in a background field strength, scale generation, cosmology, gravitational waves, spectral dimension) and a canonical formulation in Ashtekar variables. The second edition replaces the flow of the first edition, which was not derived from the Einstein-Hilbert action, with a derived one; the old flow is kept as a clearly labelled model. Every chapter says what is derived, what is quoted from the literature and what remains an open problem. Most chapters end with exercises, solutions are given for a selection, and the Python code behind the numerical results is distributed with the book.Intended readers: graduate students and researchers in quantum gravity, asymptotic safety and metric-affine gravity.Released under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 licence.
