In this volume, an international group of senior scholars comes together to consider the use of cases to produce empirical knowledge in premodern China. They trace the process by which the project of thinking with cases acquired a systematic and public character in the ninth century CE and after. Premodern Chinese experts on medicine and law circulated printed case collections to demonstrate efficacy or claim validity for their judgments. They were joined by authors of religious and philosophical texts. The rhetorical strategies and forms of argument used by all of these writers were allied with historical narratives, exemplary biographies, and case examples composed as aids to imperial statecraft. The study of cases reveals historically specific epistemologies that offer insight into how Chinese experts dealt with the tensions between classical norms and practice-based judgment and between techno/magical and literati/scholarly styles of constructing authority. By the late Ming dynasty, case collections, defined as an , were a recognized genre of writing in a variety of fields, becoming a sign of the historical sociology of emerging occupational specialties in China, those of the physician, judge, official, priest. The innovative and productive explorations gathered here present a coherent set of interlocking arguments that will be of interest to comparativists as well as specialists on premodern East Asia. For China scholars, they examine the interaction of different fields of learning in the late imperial period, the relationship of evidential reasoning and literary forms, and the philosophical frameworks that linked knowledge to experience and action. For comparativists, the essays bring China into a global conversation about the methodologies of the human sciences, where the records of a civilization without an indigenous history of experimental science provide new insight into the resources of action-oriented strategies of practical reason. ![]() Niels E. Henriksen, "Theories of Molecular Reaction Dynamics: The Microscopic Foundation of Chemical Kinetics Ed 2" English | ISBN: 0198805012 | 2019 | 464 pages | PDF | 6 MB This book deals with a central topic at the interface of chemistry and physics-the understanding of how the transformation of matter takes place at the atomic level. Building on the laws of physics, the book focuses on the theoretical framework for predicting the outcome of chemical reactions. The style is highly systematic with attention to basic concepts and clarity of presentation. The emphasis is on concepts and insights obtained via analytical theories rather than computational and numerical aspects. ![]() Glen Canarte, "The Store Detective Training Manual: A Practical Reference for Current and Aspiring Loss Prevention Officers" Eng;lish | 2018 | ISBN: 1984242350 | 178 pages | EPUB / AZW3 | 1.88 MB If you are considering a career in Asset Protection, The Store Detective Training Manual is indispensable reading. Intriguingly, this manuscript would not be published until some 46 years later, having been put aside and then lost for decades. In 1986, RAW wrote The New Inquisition which had as a partial focus the persecution of Timothy Leary and Wilhelm Reich. In some respects, The Starseed Signals seems like an earlier attempt to address that same kind of injustice, as the book was written while Leary was experiencing an inquisition, a victim of the Nixon administration and the general punitive zeitgeist. ![]() The Routledge Course on Media, Legal and Technical Translation: English-Arabic-English by Mahmoud Altarabin English, العربية | Oct 27, 2020 | ISBN: 0367511320, 0367511339 | 262 pages | PDF | 6,8 MB The Routledge Course on Media, Legal and Technical Translation: English-Arabic-English is an indispensable and engaging coursebook for university students wishing to develop their English-Arabic-English translation skills in these three text types. Williams, "The Powers Metaphysic" English | ISBN: 0198833571 | 2019 | 272 pages | PDF | 2 MB Systematic metaphysics is defined by its task of solving metaphysical problems through the repeated application of single, fundamental ontology. The dominant contemporary metaphysic is that of neo-Humeanism, built on a static ontology typified by its rejection of basic causal and modal features. This book offers a radically distinct metaphysic, one that turns the status quo on its head. Starting with a foundational ontology of inherently causal properties known as 'powers', Neil E. Williams develops a metaphysic that appeals to powers in explanations of causation, persistence, laws, and modality. Powers are properties that have their causal natures internal to them: they are responsible for the effects in the world. A unique account of powers is advanced, one that understands this internal nature in terms of blueprint of potential interaction types. After the presentation of the powers ontology, Williams offers solutions to broad metaphysical puzzles, some of which take on different forms in light of the new tools that are available. The defence of the ontology comes from the virtues of metaphysic it can be used to develop. Particular attention is paid to the problems of causation and persistence, simultaneously solving them as is casts them in a new light. The resultant powers metaphysic is offered as a systematic alternative to neo-Humeanism. ![]() The Nutritionist's Kitchen: Transform Your Diet and Discover the Healing Power of Whole Foods by Carly Knowles English | December 15th, 2020 | ISBN: 1611807174 | 272 pages | True EPUB | 125.22 MB The ultimate guide to healthy meals with the healing benefits of whole foods and the latest science-backed nutritional guidelines. ![]() The London Dream: Migration and the Mythology of the City by Chris McMillan English | August 30, 2020 | ISBN: 1789044200 | EPUB | 360 pages | 0.5 MB The London Dream tells the story of a city that promises opportunity, excitement and the possibility of prosperity.
