Free Download Mark LaGory, "Unhealthy Places: The Ecology of Risk in the Urban Landscape"
English | 2000 | pages: 289 | ISBN: 0415923719, 0415923727 | PDF | 3,9 mb
This text focuses on issues of health in today's cities. By arguing that "place matters" in relation to the population's health, Kevin Fitzpatrick and Mark LaGory make a convincing argument about the general unhealthiness of urban environments and thus, of the urban dweller. The authors offer a place-oriented approach to health and cover such topics as: the ecology of everyday urban life; the sociology of health, needs and risks of the socially disadvantaged; needs and risks of children and the elderly in cities; and strategies for better health services in urban environments.

Free Download Divya Vaid, "Uneven Odds: Social Mobility in Contemporary India"
English | ISBN: 0199480141 | 2018 | 356 pages | PDF | 5 MB
Social mobility research has held a central place in the sociological analysis of industrialized countries of the west, particularly with regard to the study of stratification systems, their forms, and processes. The research on India has however been mostly scattered. The lack of systematic research in this area implies that we do not have a sense of the precise amount of social mobility in contemporary India, and the changes such mobility has had on social structures over time and across demographics. This book draws on national level datasets and quantitative methods to understand the multiple strands of social mobility or the lack of it, by focusing on the overlapping identities of social class, caste, and gender in both rural and urban context. It investigates the contemporary processes and drivers of mobility, and appraises the role of education in supporting or preventing increased upward social mobility by concentrating on those groups that are disadvantaged from this very opportunity. It also takes into account the impact of liberalization on social mobility and argues that mobility today is differentially patterned on the basis of local and global identities.

Free Download Underwater Structures: The Strength of Submarines and Deep-Diving Submersibles
English | 2025 | ISBN: 1032783060 | 500 Pages | PDF EPUB (True) | 80 MB
Underwater Structures provides the necessary background theory of shell structures for the geometries encountered in submarine pressure hulls and deep-diving submersibles. Both analysis and design issues are considered, using analytical as well as numerical approaches. Classical thin-walled structures theory is implemented, and both elastic stability and collapse are considered for all types of structural geometries presented. These include ring-stiffened cylindrical shells, spheres, hemispherical shells, truncated cones, and torispherical end closures. This book also discusses structural design issues, including the selection of materials and the use of design codes. This book is suitable for university students at both the undergraduate and postgraduate level, and it also serves as a reference text for academic teachers, engineering professionals, and researchers.
