American Literature Before 1880
American Literature Before 1880 By Robert Lawson-Peebles
2003 | 352 Pages | ISBN: 0582495229 | PDF | 4 MB
American Literature Before 1880 attempts to place its subject in the broadest possible international perspective. It begins with Homer looking westward, and ends with Henry James crossing the Atlantic eastwards. In between, the book examines the projection of images of the East onto an as-yet unrecognised West; the cultural consequences of Viking, Colombian, and then English migration to America; the growth and independence of the British American colonies; the key writers of the new Republic; and the development of the culture of the United States before and after the Civil War. It is intended both as an introduction for undergraduates to the richness and variety of American Literature, and as a contribution to the debate about its distinctive nature. The book therefore begins with a lengthy survey of earlier histories of American Literature.

American Carnage Wounded Knee, 1890
Jerome A. Greene, Thomas Powers, "American Carnage: Wounded Knee, 1890"
English | 2014 | ISBN: 0806144483, 0806169060 | PDF | pages: 618 | 311.7 mb
As the year 1890 wound to a close, a band of more than three hundred Lakota Sioux Indians led by Chief Big Foot made their way toward South Dakota's Pine Ridge Reservation to join other Lakotas seeking peace. Fearing that Big Foot's band was headed instead to join "hostile" Lakotas, U.S. troops surrounded the group on Wounded Knee Creek. Tensions mounted, and on the morning of December 29, as the Lakotas prepared to give up their arms, disaster struck. Accounts vary on what triggered the violence as Indians and soldiers unleashed thunderous gunfire at each other, but the consequences were horrific: some 200 innocent Lakota men, women, and children were slaughtered. American Carnage-the first comprehensive account of Wounded Knee to appear in more than fifty years-explores the complex events preceding the tragedy, the killings, and their troubled legacy.

English | PDF | 2015 | 261 Pages | ISBN : 3319177281 | 2.3 MB
This volume develops the depth and breadth of the mathematics underlying the construction and analysis of Hadamard matrices, and their use in the construction of combinatorial designs. At the same time, it pursues current research in their numerous applications in security and cryptography, quantum information, and communications. Bridges among diverse mathematical threads and extensive applications make this an invaluable source for understanding both the current state of the art and future directions.

Addicted to Christ Remaking Men in Puerto Rican Pentecostal Drug Ministries
Addicted to Christ: Remaking Men in Puerto Rican Pentecostal Drug Ministries By Helena Hansen
2018 | 239 Pages | ISBN: 0520298039 | PDF | 4 MB
How are spiritual power and self-transformation cultivated in street ministries? In Addicted to Christ, Helena Hansen provides an in-depth analysis of Pentecostal ministries in Puerto Rico that were foundedand run by self-identified "ex-addicts," ministries that are also widespread in poor Black and Latino neighborhoods in the U.S. mainland. Richly ethnographic, the book harmoniously melds Hansen's dual expertise in cultural anthropology and psychiatry. Through the stories of ministry converts, she examines key elements ofPentecostalism: mysticism, ascetic practice, and the idea of other-worldliness. She then reconstructs the ministries' strategies ofspiritual victory over addiction: transformation techniques to build spiritual strength and authority through pain and discipline; cultivation of alternative masculinities based on male converts' reclamation of domestic space; and radical rupture from a post-industrial "culture of disposability." By contrasting the ministries' logic of addiction with that of biomedicine, Hansen rethinks roads to recovery, discovering unexpected convergences with biomedicine while revealing the allure of street corner ministries.

Abusir XIX Tomb of Hetepi (AS 20), Tombs AS 33-35 and AS 50-53
Miroslav Bárta, Filip Coppens, Hana Vymazalova, "Abusir XIX: Tomb of Hetepi (AS 20), Tombs AS 33-35 and AS 50-53"
English | 2010 | ISBN: 8073083256 | PDF | pages: 460 | 24.0 mb
The tombs published in this volume of the Abusir series have been excavated during several seasons at Abusir South. The eight tombs are located in the easternmost sector of Abusir South, on the slopes (tombs AS 20 and AS 33) and at the bottom (tombs AS 34-35, 50-53) of a large but low hill, to the north of the so-called Wadi Abusiri. They do not form a single cemetery; rather, they represent different groups of sacral structures that illustrate very well the diachronic development of the Abusir South necropolis during the Old Kingdom (for earlier monographs covering previous excavations see Abusir V and XIII ) and the Late Period-Ptolemaic era. Most if not all of the structures document in a new way important archaeological and historical themes, such as the origin and development of the false door tradition; early administration (tomb AS 20); unique building development of early Old Kingdom tombs (AS 20 and 33); the late Old Kingdom sociology of family cemeteries (tombs AS 34-35 and 50-53) and the appearance of new Late Period animal cemeteries (tombs AS 33, 34-35 and 50-53). Miroslav Bárta is professor of Egyptology and director of the Czech mission to Abusir. Filip Coppens and Hana Vymazalová are researchers in the Czech Institute of Egyptology, Faculty of Arts, Charles University in Prague. All the authors are members of the Czech Institute of Egyptology, excavating for many years in Egypt.

A Primer in Petri Net Design
A Primer in Petri Net Design by Wolfgang Reisig
English | PDF | 1992 | 124 Pages | ISBN : 3642753310 | 9.7 MB
Petri nets provide a formal framework for system modeling and validation which has proven to be very reliable in practice. This book presents variousnet models appropriate for designing specific systems, where systems are understood very generally as "organizational systems" in which regulatedflows of objects and information are significant. The models are interrelated in the sense that they have common interpretation patterns: together they can be understood as a method for specifying any given system or any section of such a system to any given degree of refinement. The simple and immediately understandable principles of system modelling with nets makes it possible to provide an illustrated description of this method without going into the mathematics behind it. The text is based on courses the author developed for project engineers and project managers in the area of embedded computer systems.
