On the Case in the English Language Arts Classroom Situations for the Teaching of English
Free Download On the Case in the English Language Arts Classroom: Situations for the Teaching of English by Thomas M. McCann, Elizabeth A. Kahn, Sarah Hochstetler
English | December 21, 2021 | ISBN: 0814134211 | 150 pages | EPUB | 1.95 Mb
Four veteran teacher educators offer twenty case narratives as well as a format for discussion, professional resources to inform decisions, and a guide to constructing new case narratives that can help high school teachers expand the possibilities for developing powerful problem-solving strategies. Foreword by Peter Smagorinsky Being a high school English teacher is both rewarding and difficult. Although teacher education programs try to be thorough, they can't prepare preservice teachers for every situation that might arise. For instance: How can an ELA teacher work with learners who have suffered significant trauma? How can a well-prepared literature instructor teach high school students the basics of reading? Should a teacher shy away from classroom conversations because they can become "too political"? How does a teacher contend with a crushing workload? These are just a few of the issues ELA teachers face every day, but On the Case in the English Language Arts Classroom provides teachers at any point in their career the opportunity to analyze potential situations and problems that commonly confront teachers through case studies that prompt extensive, stimulating discussion and invite written responses. Thomas M. McCann is a professor of English at Northern Illinois University; Elizabeth A. Kahn is an associate professor of English at Northern Illinois University; Sarah Hochstetler is a professor of English education at Illinois State University; and Dianne Chambers is a professor of English at Elmhurst University.

On Global Learning
Free Download On Global Learning: Pragmatic Constructivism, International Practice and the Challenge of Global Governance
English | 2023 | ISBN: 100938578X | 330 Pages | PDF | 2 MB
Global security, climate and health challenges have all created a deep-seated unease about international society's capacity to cope with change. International Relations should help practitioners develop appropriate responses, but Jason Ralph argues that IR would be better positioned to do so if it drew more explicitly on the insights of classical Pragmatism. By bringing this tradition in from the margins, Ralph comprehensively engages norm, practice, realist and global IR theory to extend the 'new constructivist' research agenda in a normative direction. He develops a 'Pragmatic Constructivist' approach to assess how well communities of practice facilitate the learning that mitigates emergent social problems and improves lived experiences. This normative assessment focuses on the extent to which communities of practice are characterized by inclusive reflexivity and deliberative practical judgment. These two tests are then applied to critique existing communities of practice, including the UN Security Council, the UNFCCC and the WHO.

Object Tracking Technology
Free Download Object Tracking Technology: Trends, Challenges and Applications
English | 2023 | ISBN: 9819932874 | 473 Pages | PDF EPUB (True) | 46 MB
With the increase in urban population, it became necessary to keep track of the object of interest. In favor of SDGs for sustainable smart city, with the advancement in technology visual tracking extends to track multi-target present in the scene rather estimating location for single target only. In contrast to single object tracking, multi-target introduces one extra step of detection. Tracking multi-target includes detecting and categorizing the target into multiple classes in the first frame and provides each individual target an ID to keep its track in the subsequent frames of a video stream. One category of multi-target algorithms exploits global information to track the target of the detected target. On the other hand, some algorithms consider present and past information of the target to provide efficient tracking solutions. Apart from these, deep leaning-based algorithms provide reliable and accurate solutions. But, these algorithms are computationally slow when applied in real-time. This book presents and summarizes the various visual tracking algorithms and challenges in the domain. The various feature that can be extracted from the target and target saliency prediction is also covered. It explores a comprehensive analysis of the evolution from traditional methods to deep learning methods, from single object tracking to multi-target tracking. In addition, the application of visual tracking and the future of visual tracking can also be introduced to provide the future aspects in the domain to the reader. This book also discusses the advancement in the area with critical performance analysis of each proposed algorithm. This book will be formulated with intent to uncover the challenges and possibilities of efficient and effective tracking of single or multi-object, addressing the various environmental and hardware challenges.

Nutritional Psychiatry A Primer for Clinicians
Free Download Nutritional Psychiatry: A Primer for Clinicians
English | 2023 | ISBN: 1009299840 | 243 Pages | PDF | 4 MB
There is increasing evidence that mental health problems such as schizophrenia, depression and anxiety are linked with poor nutrition. At present, very few psychiatrists provide nutritional advice for their patients, despite such advice complimenting drug and psychological therapies. This edited volume is the first book to provide a comprehensive overview of the relationship between nutrition and mental health, for mental health professionals. Featuring contributions from leading authorities in the field, the book examines the link between diet and the microbiome-gut brain axis and how this correlates with a variety of psychiatric disorders. The book explores how enhancing the beneficial bacteria in the gut, through the use of psychobiotics, prebiotics or dietary change can improve mood and reduce anxiety. The book will appeal to psychiatrists and psychologists, behavioural scientists, neuroscientists and nutritionists.
