Elites in both societies engaged in defensive modernization, culminating in parallel attempts to mould their nations in line with the western blueprint. The authors examine reforms in the legal regime, the changing nature of family and gender relations, and re-engineered conceptions of space and the built environment. They describe and analyse different aspects of the changes in the two societies over this period as they defined their practices and identities against Europe, and often against each other. ![]() Waves of Sub-State Autonomy in Western Europe: Territorial Mobilisation and Restructuring in Belgium, Spain and the United Kingdom (Comparative Territorial Politics) by Christoph Niessen English | November 16, 2025 | ISBN: 3031925661 | 226 pages | PDF, EPUB | 4.98 Mb In response to the puzzling variety of types and degrees of sub-state autonomy that are demanded within sub-state entities and that are granted by states all around the world, this book provides a systematic comparison of the conditions under which sub-state autonomy has been demanded and under which it has been granted in three typical countries undergoing centrifugal sociological decentralization: Belgium, Spain and the United Kingdom. To do so, the book draws on an analytical framework that studies the evolution sub-state autonomy demands and statutes jointly, that assesses sub-state autonomy in kind, in degree and by competences, that relates the evolutions to factors from the five main theoretical strands of the field, and that does so based on original data collected in 31 sub-state communities within the three countries between 1801 and 2020. The findings of the analyses are illustrated through the metaphor of 'waves' of sub-state autonomy and articulated around a dual constellational theory of centrifugal sociological decentralisation. It is constellational in that it explains sub-state mobilisation and restructuring as driven by the interplay of factors from different theoretical strands. It is dual in that it shows sub-state autonomy dynamics to unfold differently in two main types of entities: sub-state communities with strong sociological distinctiveness and historical political grievances (e.g. Flanders, Catalonia or Scotland), and sub-state communities with weaker sociological distinctiveness and historical political grievances (e.g. Wallonia, Asturias or Cornwall). ![]() Birgit O'Connor, "Watercolor in Motion: How to Create Powerful Paintings Step by Step" English | ISBN: 1440337179 | 2014 | 128 pages | PDF | 34 MB Just add water! Johnson English | August 10, 2025 | ISBN: 1032749466 | 282 pages | MOBI | 13 Mb Water Treatment: Resource Recovery and Sustainability provides a comprehensive overview of the latest research in increasing the sustainability of water treatment processes. The use of nontraditional water sources, such as desalination of seawater and reuse of treated wastewater, is increasingly important given the paucity of freshwater resources globally. Only a very small fraction of the Earth's water is fresh surface water easily available for use, while 40% of the global population are classed as living in high water stress areas. As such, increasing effort is being made to tap into nontraditional water sources, such as desalination of seawater and reuse of treated wastewater, to make up this shortfall. ![]() Water Treatment and Desalination: Membrane Separation using Renewable Energy Resources by Mohamed Bassyouni English | August 4, 2025 | ISBN: 1394300077 | 688 pages | MOBI | 23 Mb Discover how membrane-based water treatment and desalination systems powered by renewable energy can maximize efficiency and address water scarcity ![]() Water Quality-Uranium Solubility Nexus: Unlocking the Secrets of Uranium Solubility: Uranium Chemistry in Water by Manoj Kumar Jindal, Kiran Patni English | 2026 | ISBN: 3031989082 | 339 Pages | True ePUB | 18 MB ![]() Water Quality-Uranium Solubility Nexus: Unlocking the Secrets of Uranium Solubility: Uranium Chemistry in Water by Manoj Kumar Jindal, Kiran Patni English | 2026 | ISBN: 3031989082 | 339 Pages | True PDF | 17 MB |
