English | November 15, 2022 | ASIN: B0BL82NYT4 | M4B@64 kbps | 15h 14m | 440 MB
Author: Steve Kanji Ruhl | Narrator: Gabriel Vaughan
This luminous memoir combines the hardscrabble setting of Appalachia with the spiritual wisdom of Shunryu Suzuki's Zen Mind, Beginner's Mind.
Appalachian Zen describes a journey we all take, one that Buddhism calls "seeking our true home." Edgy, lyrical, and lovingly rendered, this book recounts how a kid from a Pennsylvania mill-town trailer park grew up-surrounded by backwoods farms and amid grief, violence, and passionate yearning-to become something improbable: a Buddhist minister teaching Zen. Author Steve Kanji Ruhl takes listeners on an adventure of discovery, roving far from the Appalachian Mountains of central Pennsylvania on a footloose Zen pilgrimage to Japan and beyond.

From the multi-award-winning performer, author, and activist, a comprehensive program for addressing mental and physical health. Common has achieved success in many facets of his life and career, from music to acting to writing. But for a long time, he didn't feel that he had found fulfillment in his body and spirit. And Then We Rise is about Common's journey to wellness as a vital element of his success. A testimony to the benefits of self-care, this book is composed of four different sections, each with its own important lessons: "The Food" focuses on nutrition. "The Body" focuses on fitness. "The Mind" focuses on mental health. And "The Soul" focuses on perhaps the most profound thing of all-spiritual well-being. Common's personal stories act as the backbone of his book, but he also wants to give his audience the gift of professional expertise. Here, he acts as the liaison to his own nutritionist and chef, his own physical trainer, and his own therapist, as well as to those who act as his spiritual influences. Wise, accessible, and powerful, And Then We Rise offers a comprehensive, holistic approach to wellness that will allow listeners to transform their thinking, their actions, and, ultimately, their lives.

American Poly A History [Audiobook]
Free Download Christopher M. Gleason, Keith Sellon-Wright (Narrator), "American Poly: A History"
English | ASIN: B0CQZ62K1Q | 2024 | MP3@64 kbps | ~07:33:00 | 208 MB
Recent studies have found that as many as one in five Americans have experimented with some form of sexual non-monogamy, and approximately one in fifteen knows someone who was or is polyamorous. The mainstream media has increasingly covered polyamorous lifestyles and the committed relationships of throuples, and dating apps have added polyamory as a status option.
This book is the first history to trace the evolution of polyamorous thought and practice within the broader context of American culture. Drawing on personal journals and letters, underground newsletters, and publications from the Kinsey Institute Archives, among other sources, it reconstructs polyamory's intellectual foundations, highlighting its unique blend of conservative political thought and countercultural spiritualism. Christopher M. Gleason locates its early foundations in the Roaring Twenties among bohemians. In the 1950s and 1960s it surprisingly emerged among libertarian science fiction writers. Throughout the 1990s, polyamorists utilized the internet to spread their ideas, often undermining any remaining religious or spiritual significance their ideas held.
Offering an original perspective on sexuality, marriage, and the family, American Poly reveals the history of polyamory in the United States from fringe practice to a new stage of the sexual revolution.

American Epic Reading the U.S. Constitution [Audiobook]
Free Download Garrett Epps, Lee Goettl (Narrator), "American Epic: Reading the U.S. Constitution"
English | ASIN: B0CQZ4WMRQ | 2024 | MP3@64 kbps | ~12:49:00 | 363 MB
In 1987, E. L. Doctorow celebrated the Constitution's bicentennial by reading it. "It is five thousand words long but reads like fifty thousand," he said. Distinguished legal scholar Garrett Epps disagrees. It's about 7,500 words. And Doctorow "missed a good deal of high rhetoric, many literary tropes, and even a trace of, if not wit, at least irony," he writes.
In American Epic, Epps takes us through a complete reading of the Constitution to achieve an appreciation of its power and a holistic understanding of what it says. In this book he seeks not to provide a definitive interpretation, but to listen to the language and ponder its meaning. He draws on four modes of reading: scriptural, legal, lyric, and epic. The Constitution's first three words, for example, sound spiritual-but Epps finds them to be more aspirational than prayer-like. He turns the Second Amendment into a poem to illuminate its ambiguity. He notices oddities and omissions. The Constitution lays out rules for presidential appointment of officers, for example, but not removal. Should the Senate approve each firing? Can it withdraw its "advice and consent" and force a resignation? And he challenges himself, as seen in his surprising discussion of the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) in light of Article 4, which orders states to give "full faith and credit" to the acts of other states.

A gripping true story of wartime espionage. Dundee, 1937. When housewife Mary Curran became suspicious of hairdresser Jessie Jordan's frequent trips to Nazi Germany, she had no idea that she was about to be drawn into an international web of espionage. Thanks to a tip off from Mary, MI5 and the FBI launched major spy hunts on both sides of the Atlantic. This is the true story of a decade-long series of Nazi espionage Descriptions in Britain, Europe, and the United States. It shows how a Nazi spy's letter, posted in New York and intercepted in Scotland, broke spy rings across Europe and North America. And it reveals, for the first time, how that letter marked the genesis of an intelligence and security alliance that today includes the United States, the UK, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand.

Z Generation Into the Heart of Russia's Fascist Youth [Audiobook]
Free Download Ian Garner, Daniel Henning (Narrator), "Z Generation: Into the Heart of Russia's Fascist Youth"
English | ASIN: B0CJZPZ8K5 | 2023 | M4B@64 kbps | ~10:04:00 | 273 MB
How did Vladimir Putin galvanize the Russian people to back his genocidal war in Ukraine, and why are so many of them willing to embrace fascism? This vivid, on-the-ground narrative reveals how Russia's fascist generation came into being-and the dark future that awaits the country if that hold cannot be broken.
Wartime Russia is drowning in fascist symbols. Zealous patriots attack journalists, opposition activists, and anyone suspected of betraying the motherland. Russians are urged to join the cause by hordes of online trolls and sleek videos of angry young men bellowing patriotic slogans. State television terrifies viewers with trumped up tales of anti-Russian conspiracies and genocidal yearnings. Child soldiers proudly parade across Red Square. This is Russia in the 2020s: a land of performative rage and nationalist untruth, where play-acting, pretense, and broken promises are a way of life. But in a world where pretense has become the norm, a terrifying, apocalyptic mindset is seizing the Russians of tomorrow.
As enrapturing as it is terrifying, Z Generation reveals how Russia ended up where it is today, and where its young people are headed: a fascist generation more zealous, violent, and ideological than anything the country has seen before.

English | July 8, 2013 | ASIN: B015OHX0PA, ISBN: 1598032852 | M4B@96 kbps | 12h 14m | 517 MB
Lecturer: Professor Robert Greenberg
No matter what kind of music we listen to - symphony or string quartet, saxophone solo or vocal ballad, hip hop or Gregorian chant - we feel its impact. But how is such an impact achieved? What are the fundamental processes of musical composition?
Look beneath the surface of music in these 16 fascinating lectures. See how certain musical effects are achieved, and learn to follow the often-intimidating language of key signatures, pitch, mode, melody, meter, and other parts of musical structure used by composers. Professor Greenberg offers a spirited introduction to this magnificent language - nimbly avoiding what for many of us has long been the principal roadblock, the need to read music. While reading musical notation is a necessity for anyone wanting to master music's language, this course introduces you to music's language in a way that is similar to the way you learned your own native language - through your ears rather than with pen and paper.
