First, some definitions.
For the purposes of this book, what are "advanced" English words?
My process for finding these words is rather simple. Over my years of experience in training students for the GRE and SAT, I have come to see that around one fifth of the words pose the most problems to above-average students. One fifth of the words give rise to four fifths of the errors. These words, therefore, are the sole focus of this book.
Since it is always better to have backup, I have approached the problem of teaching these words in three different ways. First, I have used traditional methods; pictorial renditions of word meanings have always worked. The second and third approaches, however, are novel. I hope you will appreciate them!
