History of Canals in Bengal

The great rivers of Bengal, their numerous branches and adjuncts, intersect the country in such a way that provide the most complete and easy navigation throughout. Governed by climatic rhythm, these rivers and channels are calm in one season and violent at another. It is therefore quite obvious that a great variety of boats were developed throughout all the centuries to suit local needs manoeuvred by a group of brave hearts who were prepared to face any odds on the watery region.
