MODELS OF POLITICAL PHILOSOPHY

In the second part of the book, four paradigms of political thought are presented that have profoundly marked its history: the paradigm of the polis (Plato and Aristotle), that of the comparison between the city of man and the city of God (from Augustine and Thomas to the Reformation) , that of the social contract (Hobbes, Locke, Rousseau, Kant), and that of the dialectic between state and society, seen as a terrain of conflict between liberals who insist on the limits of the state (such as Constant, Tocqueville and Mill) and the critics of liberalism like Hegel and Marx.
