Harv Kahn captured the essence of the Union Pacific rail yard before it's total demise and obliteration which happened by the mid 1990's. Also included is a chapter of Amtrak's Desert Wind photographs.
In 1980 the UPRR yard was at it's peak in volume of yard tracks. It was an amazing time, because many of the old structures built in the first decades of Las Vegas were still present. You'll see the engine house, yard tower, ice house, water tower, fueling pads and other structures. A variety of locomotives used during that time are all present here in this captivating and comprehensive work.
