From January 1918 to December 1920, a Spanish pandemic killed about 50 million people worldwide. The Flu killed over half a million people in the United States. Montana has lost about five thousand people to one of the highest mortality rates in the country. It is not clear where the 1918 virus came from, but it is commonly called the Spanish Flu after the Spanish and French crossings. During World War I, Spain was neutral and did not censor information. The first cases of the Spanish bombing occurred in military camps and cities in the Midwest and quickly spread to the rest of the country.
One of the main differences between the pandemic and Spanish Influenza is that the virus is primarily aimed at older men and those with weak immune systems, but the Spanish Flu targets healthy-looking men.
