Ancient Greek and Latin in the linguistic context of the Ancient Mediterranean

In this volume, Latin and Greek are examined from the perspective of language contact, a topic that is particularly topical in our global and multi-ethnic society. In their contributions, specialists from various universities and countries look at, among other things, the linguistic variation of Greek dialects, Greco-Latin bilingualism, language contact in ancient Italy, the Middle East and the Mediterranean, as well as translations and glosses. Maps and images of old inscriptions and manuscripts enrich the discussion. From an interdisciplinary perspective, the linguistics of Latin and Greek is also examined in its connection with epigraphy, philology, textual criticism and grammatical theory. In addition to Latin and Greek, data from numerous ancient and modern languages ​​are included.
