This is an outstanding 80+ pages booklet. It is the ultimate in the design histories of the 88 mm gun, both anti-aircraft and anti-tank versions. The booklet describes the various barrel designs, sighting systems, and mountings. Tabulations of dimensions and performance characteristics are provided. It especially describes the various towed vehicle mountings for the Flak 36 that became so famous in North Africa where it also served as an anti-tank gun and the mountings for the 88 mm L/71 Pak 43.
The booklet also clearly describes that it was not just luck that resulted in the 88 mm L/56 Flak gun being used as an anti-tank weapon. As pointed out here, the "88" was used in a ground attack role in Spain during the Spanish Civil War. Anti-tank ammunition was specifically developed for the gun in 1938. The use of the gun as an anti-tank weapon could never have occurred by accident in 1940.
The booklet also describes the self-propelled versions produced. It includes prototypes or paper designs that never were placed in production.
Another myth that you sometimes read is that the 88 mm gun was produced in factories all over German occupied Europe. Not true. As clearly discussed in page 75, all the guns and their components were produced in factories in Germany, Austria, and Czechoslovakia.
