Swami Kripalu (1913-81) was an Indian saint and social activist who experienced a profound energetic awakening in mid-life and spent his last four decades intensively practicing asana, pranayama, and meditation in a quest to scale the ladder of yoga to its highest rung. This is the first book to present his teachings on yoga and a host of related esoteric topics in a straightforward manner that enables them to be sensibly applied on the mat and cushion by today's practitioners.
The book also traces the efforts of the author and a cadre of other Westerners - sometimes effectively, other times not - to progress along Swami Kripalu's path of yoga through the type of systematic practice he valued so highly.
